  1. Wow, that is gorgeous! If I could afford to, I'd buy it. I really get the impression that this amplifier is one of the best for powering heresys. I could only imagine what it sounds like playing vinyl. I wish I could .
  2. Hey mossy bottom, It's funny you should say that... I just spoke to guy who is selling his Scott 222, It's in absolutely BEAUTIFUL condition. And it's in total stock form. But he wants $900, and I can't afford that much right now, but this thing is in such amazing condition, I might ask him if he would take a deposit on it, and allow me some time to pay the Balance and then bring it home. I just know that if I hear it hooked to the heresys, I'd love it.

  4. Hi Islander, I totally agree. Any upgrades I do, will be one at a time, for all the reasons you said, plus my budget would only allow one upgrade at a time. But no, pointing that out is a good thing, because the great thing about this forum, is that other people could read these posts, and learn from it. I learned a lot just by reading some of the topics and posts from the knowledgeable folks who visit here. And a lot of my questions got answered by just searching for it in this forum, and reading what they've said about it.
  5. Anyone have some insight or a good recommendation for a tube amplifier to run a pair of Heresy II's? I've been reading a little about the Jolida FX-10, and it seems interesting for the price? Also, Dynaco 70 is a name that keeps popping up when heresy with tubes are mentioned. There's also amps like the Eastern Electric MiniMax, and the ONIX SP30, and Mini Watt Amplifiers. Then... My curiosity led me to read up on "chip amps", gainclones, and such... There's a TOPPING TP-60 that looks pretty cool, and the DALAUDIO gainclone amps too! Does anyone have any experience with any of these amps with heresys ? Or should I just look for a restored Marantz or Sansui Cap-Coupled integrated amp or receiver from the 70's era? ...anyone?
  6. I think the best thing to do, Is wait until I get them set up, With my amp, and place them in the corners of the room (as suggested). I'll let them settle in for a couple of days, And then sit down to do some actual listening. I love the way the heresy looks. So I'm going to do whatever I can (within reason, and budget permitting), to get the best that I can out of them. I've thought about it, and hacking up the beautiful cabinets of these H2's not something I want to do. Maybe the BEC mods? Or Maybe the klipsch upgrade kit to H3? (these do have the square terminal cup) So bringing them up to H3 level, is a matter of about $600. Maybe a combination of the two is what I'll end up with? But, all of that being said, There's a chance I might set them up and be okay with how they sound (for now). This setup will consist of a NAD 3210 integrated amp, a Technics SL-1200mk II turntable, & a Creek CD-60/DAC-60 compact disc spinner. Before I attempt any upgrades to the heresys, I was thinking that maybe a second amplifier might be a good thing to do first. I love this little NAD integrated, and I've had it for a long time with various speakers attached to them. But there are a lot of different flavors of amplification options out there, and I'm thinking it might be a good time to try tubes for the first time? So, as the twists and turns of this beloved hobby we love so much continue to unfold... My quest for cheap but good "starter" tube amplification begins....
  7. It's a thought. In theory, that seems like it should work?
  8. ( sorry ) I was mistaken about the port. Must've gotten two different mod types mixed up?
  9. http://m.ebay.com/itm/3-way-design-Vintage-K-55V-K-77-Vintage-M-K-8-ohm-woofers-Black-Walnut-/322118294110?nav=SEARCH There they are! Check out the pics!
  10. Well, altering the size of the cabinet was not something I was considering, Because I want to keep the "heresy look" I love the style of the squat cabinet, with the slanted risers. I've seen some heresy mods that just add an "extension" to the rear of the cabinet. Making it deeper by what appears to be only a few inches? and that same mod had M&K woofers installed, and a tapered port hole in the back, at the bottom of the newly added rear "extension" part. I must admit, the M&K woofer in the heresy cabinet looked really good.
  11. Yeah, that makes sense. The room that I'm putting the heresy II's in Is 10x13. So, I know that'll help some. But the reason I was asking, is because I am planning on Gradually doing some mods on these H2's, and it just seemed appropriate To look into making a little lower frequencies happen (along with the mids & tweets being upgraded). And also because the most popular issue people point out on any "stock" Heresy, is the lack of bass. I should have the H2's home Sometime this weekend.
  12. Are there "drop-in" woofer replacements that would achieve the desired effect? I'm planning on going all BEC on my heresys, Tweets, mids, crossovers... I know that crites offers a woofer, Does it allow the heresy to dig deeper? Or would cutting a port into the rear of the cabinet help? If so, is there a "proper" port hole size? ...Location of port?... Is porting a bad move?
  13. Hello Everyone. It seems that (most) people love the heresy. But I've noticed that (most) people also complain about the heresy not having enough low frequency output on their own, and usually recommend the use of a subwoofer. If adding a sub is not an option, and squeezing some deeper bass from a heresy was the goal... what are some options without altering the original heresy cabinet? Or, to put it another way... I want more bass from my heresy II without adding a sub, or changing original size of the cabinet. I think that the heresy is one of the most attractive looking speakers ever produced. It's not too big, It has a very "retro" look, and to me... It just symbolizes klipsch heritage and class. But I want it to have more bass! I know I can get Quartets, Fortes, Etc... But I want the classic heresy look. So, if you wanna keep your heresys looking "Stock", but need lower tones from it... Whatta ya do?
  14. After looking at some pictures of the marantz 2015 with the top cover off... It does appear to be cap-coupled! I guess that explains the smoothness it has? So, I've narrowed down my list of of possible (affordable) amps: Marantz 2015, 2230, or 1060. Sansui AU-555a, or 777a. Harman/Kardon a401/a402, or 430. I know that there are LOTS of others out there that fit the description, But these are the ones that appeal to me For use with klipsch heritage speakers. I'm really very curious about the Sansui au-555a, so any info from anyone out there on that model would be greatly appreciated.
  15. "I have never got this fixation with high power = great sound. My little Marantz Model 2015 is only 15 wpc, but the sound signature blows away my Sony STR-v7 rated at 150 wpc. 38 watts is plenty. I have an Hitachi HMA-6500 power amp that puts out 50wpc that will put most high powered amps in the shade, It stomped on my Yamaha MX-1000 which is rated at 260 wpc. so much so, I sold the Yamaha and kept the Hitachi. It's all about the sound, not the power. The 1060 is a sweet amp sir. Let nobody persuade you otherwise." - mufster.
  16. Here are a few quotes from other people online on the subject: "I have heard dozens of Marantz offerings from the 2230, 2240, 2270, 2385, quads, component amps....the musical sweetness of the flea amps, the 2015 in particular, trump the whole lot! If you have some sweet mid to small speakers this is a truly astounding amp. Bigger is not always better. - Bugust. "Well it didn't make any sense at all. The Sansui 771 has way more power, more options for speakers, more RCA jacks to plug into and on paper should be far and away a better unit but somehow that little 2015 just sounds better... A LOT Better. I don't know what kind of voodoo the guys at Marantz put in this thing but what ever it is I like it. I love my Sansui and would never knock the build quality or sound but DAMN that Marantz 2015 sounds good! I will say that it is a little lacking in bass but overall it blew the 771 away. I will say that I have enjoyed the Sansui thoroughly and it is a fantastic unit that i would recommend to anyone but to my ear the Marantz it the keeper of the two." - sean7278 http://stereonomono.blogspot.com/2013/11/marantz-2015.html?m=1 Can anyone tell me if the marantz 2015 is cap-coupled like the 2230 or not? I cannot find any info on it.
  17. As far as I've noticed, (with klipsch speakers) The lower wattage amp designs seem to have a "lush" tone when compared to their higher powered big brothers. I had a Harman/Kardon 430 twin-powered receiver, I intended on buying a pair of heresys to go with it... At that time, i had a pair of Boston Acoustics A400 speakers (4 ohm). The little 430 sounded great, But I was having a really difficult time locating a pair of heresys In my area to mate them with, and the Boston's were too hard to power with the h/k... It was getting super hot at even low volume levels. So, I traded the 430 (plus $100 cash) For a Harman/Kardon 730. My thinking was... Same sound as the 430, But with more balls. The 730 powered the 4 ohm Boston's reasonably well, but all of the warmth was gone. The smooth but lively tone that the 430 had Was gone. The 730 was in beautiful condition, but it might have been in need of a cap replacement, or a slight bias adjustment? I don't know, but to me... The difference was not slight. It's amazing how different One amp can sound when compared to it's siblings in the same model lineup. One model up or down could make a world of difference.
  18. I have both vinyl and digital sources. Right now, I have a technics SL-1210mkII turntable, and a creek audio CD-60 compact disc player (with matching DAC-60 digital-to-analog converter). I play vinyl mostly, and I'm aware that the CD player/DAC combo I have is dated... But honestly, I've yet to come across a CD player that sounds as "analog" as this creek setup. I've owned a couple of marantz 2230's, But I acquired them at the wrong times... When building a vintage audio system was not really a priority, and sold them shortly after buying them. I've never had a 2270, but I've heard nothing but great things about them. The problem is, for what a decently operational 2270 costs these days, you could get into McIntosh for the same money! What I'm afraid of, is finally getting my hands on a McIntosh (1900 or 4100 or 6100?), It won't sound as "warm" or smooth as what I've heard from marantz. The 2230/1060 marantz units are truly some of the most liquid sounding amplifiers I've ever had the pleasure to hear. But everyone says "MCINTOSH!" and, the Mc stuff does look amazing. Lately, I've been looking into Sansui au-555a. It's also cap-coupled, and I've never tried a sansui of any kind, so the reviews, looks, and cap-coupledness has piqued my interest. The reason I'm leaning toward the Capacitor Coupled units so much, is because It seems that they are a nice midway point between tubes and solid state designs when it comes to warmth of tone and still has that solid-state punch. I'm so sorry I let go of my marantz 1060. Can anyone out there tell me if the "baby" marantz 2015 receiver is also a cap-coupled design? I'm thinking that a "flea watt" 2015 might be just what the doctor ordered with heritage klipsch speakers?
  19. I forgot to add the Sansui 2000x, and some of the early Sony Receivers, like the 6060, Etc... : )
  20. Okay... I've been thru a lot of "trial & error" when it comes to audio gear... Different combos of amps, receivers, integrated and separates. (Realistically Speaking)... Our beloved Klipsch speakers are "horn" type designs, and, by nature, can sometimes seem "harsh" or "shrill" sounding due to poor matching of complementary amplification. In my long search for affordable audio nirvana in my home, I've learned a few things along the way. I'm no expert by any means, But I know what sounds good to me. This is a short list of amps and/or receivers that I am contemplating buying To use with my Klipsch Chorus 1's, (and soon, also for use with a pair of heresys as well)... I've selected some of these based on personal experience, and some were chosen based on popular opinions of friends and reviews I've read over the years. MARANTZ: 1060 or 2015 or 2230 SANSUI AU-555a or AU-777a And, as honorable mentions: HARMAN/KARDON 330C, 430, 730, 401 and 402. & The ADVENT model 300. I know that some of the models listed are not cap-coupled, but... They all have a very Warm presentation, smooth... (What most people refer to as "Tube-Like".) So, the question I'm posing today is: Which one of these would you guys choose (if you could only pick one), to mate with klipsch heritage series speakers, and why? Any and all input is appreciated, (And by the way... I love this forum!)
  21. Yeah, that's pretty much what I had in mind. All but the port tubes, I don't really feel a "lack" of bass, but maybe extending a bit lower might be something I didn't know I was missing? I'm going to do the crites upgrades for sure. But the full crossover might be a little to expensive for me right now, but maybe in time... (These upgrades will have to be done step by step, one at a time, as budget permits).
  22. I have a pair of chorus 1's here, I decided against trading them for a pair of Cornwalls. They are in stock form, and now that keeping them may end up being the case... I figured why not ask about mods? So, if anyone has any chorus 1 info/stories about any mods (crites or otherwise), please share. I'm guessing that the crites tweets, mids, and crossover caps are in order, But I've noticed a pair of heresy modded with M&K woofers when I was looking at pictures of modded klipsch speakers online, And that got me thinking... What other mods are out there as far as using other woofers, or any other stuff like that?
