  1. As suspected. Thanks for confirming. I appreciate it.
  2. So I just spent 2 hours of my employer's time reading MOST of the 35 pages in this thread! LOL Absolutely great job. You've set the bar pretty high! Congrats an one helluva HT build.
  3. Quick question for those in the know. After studying the code sheet just want to make sure I understand it correctly. LSBLS W/S La Scala Birch Lacquer Stain - Walnut Stain ??? Thanks in advance for any input.
  4. No affiliation just ran across them. Guy sounds like he doesn't want to give them up but alas... THE WIFE. http://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649288968-klipsch-kornerhorns/
  5. Man... I knew I heard someone say they were looking for a single Belle. Now I can't remember what FB page I saw it on but there was a guy selling a single Belle...If I run across that ad again, I forward to you. I appreciate that but I actually recently bought a second pair of La Scala's so I no longer need the single Belle. Gotcha!
  6. I used paperback veneer and contact cement with stellar results on my first attempt to veneer. Keep in mind though that once the two pieces touch... it's a done deal! (both surfaces coated with a thin layer of contact cement) http://s1368.photobucket.com/user/MCoffel/library/Klipsch%20Heresy%20Restoration
  7. Man... I knew I heard someone say they were looking for a single Belle. Now I can't remember what FB page I saw it on but there was a guy selling a single Belle...If I run across that ad again, I forward to you.
  8. Awesome! I'm a new La Scala owner and you are spot on... it's hard to explain to those who have not experienced. Ya just gotta bring em over and show em! LOL JoeDirt - That squeak is famous! LOL
  9. I was able to search your posts and found this thread. Great job! Maybe I missed it...were your La Scalas lacquer finish? I recently purchased my 1980 La Scalas and they are pretty nice but MIGHT refinish. Not sure. They sound GREAT and look decent. I refinished some pretty rough Heresies and I also used Watco Danish in Cherry! Several coats so they came out REALLY nice for my first attempt at this type of work. Thread about my Heresy refinish --> https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/164392-1978-heresy-restoration-complete/ I have an entire album on photobucket --> http://s1368.photobucket.com/user/MCoffel/library/Klipsch%20Heresy%20Restoration Here is the thread on my "new to me" La Scalas --> https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/165133-finally-scored-a-pair-of-la-scalas/#entry2040278
  10. Can you post a pic of your grills? My La Scalas are 81's. Curious how they look and fit as the motor board is flush with the front of the cabinet.
  11. I ran across his advert... http://bham.craigslist.org/ele/5681036796.html He still has the ad up for the La Scalas I got from him...
  12. I have a pair of what I believe are the original grills from a pair of Heresies I purchased a few months back. The speakers are "S" date code. I found a pair of almost mint grills with badges so I purchased those rather than try to hunt down another early style badge. These grills are what I consider to be 8.5 or 9 our of 10. Very good shape. I'm not exactly sure how to value them. I was thinking $100 and I'll pay shipping or make me an offer. I typically do not sell any parts etc (my wife thinks I'm a hoarder!) but I doubt I will ever do anything with these. I'm not in it for the cash either! I like to trade... I'm looking for 10" metal reels. Most used 1/4" tape does NOT meet my expectations but I'm willing to hear about what you might have. Anyone have a NOS reel of EE Maxell? LOL In any event, if you are interested, hit me up. Maybe we can find these a good home. MIKE
  13. I've got a direct to acetate recording of Jack Johnson live at 3rd Man Records (Jack White's facility) that sounds pretty awesome. If you get a chance to visit Nashville, 3rd Man is a cool stop. They have a little gift shop that is VERY unique.
  14. BTW - For what it's worth, I've all but given up buying used. eBay sellers are typically flipping estate sale finds and have no idea what they are selling. NOS sealed maybe but used is a gamble and then some.
  15. Look up ATR Magnetics. They have a new formulation out. Good stuff. $38 for a 10.5" pancake and $68 on a reel. (You can load pancakes on to reels very easy but you will need TWO empty reels to make it happen. One to sandwich the pancake and one to reel it on to. Secondly... look up Splicit. They have a new formulation out as well. Lastly- RMG/Pyral. You can even get it on Amazon! All of these are great choices and quality tape.
  16. I'm pretty excited. It was a long weekend and we arrived home around 3pm yesterday. Had them placed and up and running by 4. The wife made dinner but I stayed in front of the speakers until bed time... can't wait to get home and listen some more. My first listen? Herb Alpert's Going Places (remastered by Herb in 2000) My wife then chose Nora Jones. THEN... threw on some Audioslave. WOW. I need to rethink my tone/eq settings with these bad boys. Very revealing.
  17. Date code is "U". I'm at work so I can't tell you the number...
  18. Thanks! There's a guy on FaceBook who says these may be his previously owned La Scallas and that he thought they were in MO. Made me think of you! LOL
  19. I tried my best to purchase Matt's La Scalas but the distance made it tough (I'm in Montgomery, AL) and by the time I figured out my pony express they were gone. But alas... the wife and I were headed to Atlanta for dinner and a show this past weekend and on a whim I thought... I should check the Atlanta Criagslist! LOL Found a nice original pair from a gentlemen in Marietta (see my post in alerts for his Chorus he has for sale). I'm not sure of the year yet... if they are like the Heresy date code, I think these are 1980 or 1981. They are all original with a couple of dings and scratches but darn nice for their age. Left our hotel Sunday morning in downtown Atlanta and went and picked them up. It's a 3 hour drive home with a good chance of rain so moving blankets and a tarp were in order. Made it home just in time to beat the rain. I plan to rebuild the crossovers but they sure sound great as is!! I loved my Heresies but the La Scala? WOW. Very nice. I'm a happy guy! I'm driving these with an M-504 Onkyo Integra right now. not sure which system will eventually be "the one" but for now this will work. My room is almost 700 sq ft as it used to be the garage so I have plenty of room to open them up. I have a pair of Cerwin Vega CL-215's running in the rear of the room as well. The La Scalas are so sensitive, you can barely here the CV's! LOL This is a good thing in my book as they just add a little bottom end to the room with their dual 15's.
  20. I picked up a pair of La Scalas this weekend (YES! Finally.) and the gentleman who sold them to me has a nice pair of Chorus speakers for sale. I didn't give them a thorough looking over as I was there for his La Scalas BUT they looked to be in excellent shape. His name is Corey and he is asking $800 404-368-9636 Located in Marietta. Nice guy. Has some other gear for sale as well. CHEERS!
  21. Practice is good and this is a very easy solder job. Crites kit comes with brackets and zip ties so it's a pretty easy job. There is no polarity to worry about just warm up the old connections and pluck them off then resolder to the new caps. The new ones look nothing like the old oil filled caps you have so don't be alarmed at the difference. You can do it!!
  22. Once you get rolling, confidence begins to set in... it's not that hard.
  23. Thank you, sir! I bumped this for a gentlemen who is getting ready to reveneer some Heresies ...
  24. Try a heat gun on the veneer along with a carpenter's chisel to get your veneer off. Some of mine came off easily and some was VERY difficult resulting in some minor chipping/damage to the plywood. Nothing the wood bondo couldn't fix! Once again... any issues or questions, throw them out there!
