Came across this watch at a garage sale. $5! Threw in a $3 battery. It's minty. Not a scratch anywhere. (Fossil FS4487 in case you need to know.)

When I bought the Bell's I (for once) had the mind to also rent an appliance dolly with moving blankets. With inches to spare going down a spiral staircase it took a little over 10 minutes to get down "only" 8 or so stairs. If I ever find one on CL or estate sale for cheap it's mine.

Decided to throw in a SACD. It plays! Sweet! Martin Taylor on acoustic guitar. Georgia on my mind. I'm laughing this CD player is on the sweet side and non fatiguing. Been listening to my collection of CDs for an hour straight in it's entirety. A rare occurrence.

Even then that only proved to be a temporary solution. My Sony & Realistic had the same symptoms as the OP described and got to a point no amount of deoxit would prevent one channel from cutting out immediately. That's a hardware issue. Got the Sony back from a full restoration and it's singing beautifully. Not one hiccup. Yaay.

Interesting. I'd never would have suspected jitter as a culprit. (Obviously unless they just make a crappy CD and brick it 1000%.) But I kinda see your point. We had one of those two pound $20 Thanksgiving special DVD players in our bedroom that would make a noise/vibrate due to the spin of the platter. Embarrassing. I told my wife it broke. Since then I haven't replaced it until now. The Yamaha will do sound duties while the Sony 7000(dual lasers) will be spinning DVD's. Without vibrating. Don't know if it has dual power supplies. Very true. According to one website where the tech dismantled one of these to repair a malfunction he stated there are19 different boards in here. Yikes! Although I wasn't able to get into the guts of the system I did take the top off. Surprisingly the lid itself is 1/8" aluminum. Don't quote me on the thickness but it's pretty dang heavy & thick for just being the top cover. By fortunate circumstances I'm finding there's a synergy between this CD player and the Marantz 2500. I've said it before once the Marantz was fully restored it's in the Yamaha orbit in terms of it's musicality. (On the other hand my vintage Sony Str 7055 is more in Denon orbit due to its rounded musicality and it's laid-back sound) I'm wondering if that has anything to do with what I'm hearing. This CD player represented a time before Yamaha decided to brighten the sound and make their equipment sound a little too bright, and forward sounding. To me. Now for the last couple days for I've been listening to CDs in their entirety. That is rare for me to do. On occasion some of the music by the artist makes me lift my head up. This has certainly been enjoyable.

Bought the same mower after getting rid of the Ryobi first generation cordless mower broke down. Thing was a beast to move around with it's lead acid battery. Went to this Honda and it was night & day difference. Louder but more power and much lighter to maneuver. On a turn it won't tear up the grass. I also like the self propel feature.

My wife gave me the blessings to get a bike. I said ok.... At my work 3 have died and one can't walk normal after spinal crunch, hip broken and it's looking like with only 15 years in he'll retire. I'm good. I'll stick to my convertible. Get all the wind and no helmet needed.

I'm finding that out right now. It's giving cd's a "solid" sound. I've had my share if crappy cdp where the bass was poofy and without meat and pretty much unbearable to listen too. This is a treat. The exception to the rule as you state on playing a CDs on a DVD player is perhaps the Sony S7000 which has two laser lens one for DVD and the other for redbook. Pretty cool. It's been good for me. But the Yamaha is in another league. I'm duly impressed. Just to be clear I'm not a Yamaha fan when it comes to their house sound. Had the RX V -777 receiver for about a week and didn't care for the way it sounded on my Klipsch Bell's being a little too forward and sterile. However I've been impressed with their build quality through thick & thin. Perhaps this CD player will be my first Yamaha gear I keep. Thanks for chiming in.

Went to a sale and there was some audio equipment I really wanted but others were faster than I. Needing a CD player for my bedroom and seeing this was one of the last equipment left I went to go pick it up one handed like all CD players. Ooof. Nope. Grabbed it by two hands and lifted. Oof. Nope. I was laughing at this point. Then I got serious and with some effort got it off the shoulder height shelf. I thought what's in here bricks?Sat down wondering what the heck this thing was.Yamaha first CD player! 1983 & 40lbs. Wow! Found an outlet hopping it worked and bam, started right up. Found the box for it too. No manual though. Wondering where he kept this box as it looks brand new!Anyway, brought it home and the CD by Peter White titled Confidential is like nothing I heard before. Best I can describe the sound is that it plays with "authority". Bass is large, has oomph and solidity behind it while the highs are spot on. Music was IN the room bouncing around me. Oddly enough the volume I had to actually turn down on the receiver.Another interesting feature was the slide out tray on the right. I was afraid to press open as I didn't see a slot. I kept looking and looking at it and finally after five minutes cringing I pressed it. Surprise! The buttons slide out with the tray. Cool.Excited I have their first CD player. Even if I was embarrassed trying to pick it up.

Car, home or work. Knobs please. I specifically looked for a volume knob when I decided to have my car stereo upgraded. Period. All this hand waving, tapping or talking to command the radio to do something is annoying. I can easily reach over and turn down the volume (and keep my eyes on the road)with a push have be muted. At home one of the things that bothered me about modern gear aside of it being black is its reliance on the remote. I've been a Denon fan all my life but it drives me NUTZ that without the remote you are looking at a doorstop with some of their gear. Be careful which model you buy. On the other hand while I'm not a Yamaha fan when it comes to their sound I DO give them credit for allowing some functionality if you lose the remote with access to everything via knobs & switches. Smart people over at Yamaha. So give me a good ole 30 or 70 lbs of receiver with aluminum machined knobs even as "lowly" as the Sony str 7055. The quality of the scalloped knobs with beveled edges and it's slight resistance give it that feel of a well engineered product. I'll even go so far as to say they best even the mighty Marantz 2500 when it comes to knobs. In fact Sony probably made one of the best ever. Look closely.

Sometimes I didn't want the toys. A simple game with three soda cans against a wall and a baseball from a distance would occupy me for couple hours. I'd nail them. Bottles we're best though! Of course I'd have to sweep them up later.

Had some fun with these. The paddle ball was a real challenge and proved later in life to have helped me play tennis also steal the ball a LOT in basketball. I also had a fondness for the spinning tops until I found the gyroscope and playing marbles, slinky and Stretch-Arm-Strong. I'd go on my BMX bike and take off ALL day towards the caves by the ocean. Then after dinner I'd take my baseball mitt and tennis ball and practice pitching against a wall. I wanted to be a pitcher and became a really good one in little league. Good times. Never grew up with electronics.

Well, with a good fresh cup of $5 latye from Starbucks wife and I woke up late and took Lily to the beach for the first time. Visions of her running with the tide like some dancing unicorn came to mind. This is what really happened. She hugged my legs the whole time. No amount of encouragement would get her to leave more than three feet. Haha. Oh , yeah the beach is our favorite "Cliff House restaurant beach" in San Francisco. We just got home. Good night all.

Wow, congrats! My dad built homes through all the up & downs for decades. Threw in the towel back in 88. It's a beautiful feeling and a bit surreal having helped him from grading, clearing, many, many trips to the county planning office, talking with homeowners, and coordinating the right trades to show up. Although he did have "core" of guys that always was close to him. Meaning they did great work and was reliable. Haha. This was my idea back in 08' to do as you build my own home but fortune shined on us and we purchased a new home at the bottom of the housing market and the house came loaded ($100k upgrades) and the bank wanted to find a buyer badly. I do envy your excitement, anticipation and we'll, I wish you & yours the very best going forward.

I remember seeing an all wood table version. I really wanted it but was out of my price range. It was a beauty.

Maybe it was the flavor. Lately I've been brewing this type of bean which looks like tea coffee. No matter how much grounds I put in it's never dark. So I brewed my favorite beans and while it was much better I think it's the residual effects of the flu as my body/flavor hasn't "snapped" back into place yet. Thanks for asking.

Something weird happening. Ever since the flu my taste for coffee has gone off the cliff. I usually have a cup after work as I normally have for the past ten years. Not yesterday. Got home thinking I'd have some but only managed to finish half a cup of iced coffee. Strange times.

First time I saw these at any sale in all the years I've been going. On a glass shelf no less. So it was now or never. Last day was a whole box approximately 10 cars for $5. So not a bad deal.
