Hi guys, been a long time since I've been on this forum. Have a semi-urgent question. Currently I have 5 RF-3II's in my theater along with an SVS sub for my 5.1 setup. Basically, the surround floor standers can't stay. First, they take up too much floor space. Second, they are at ear-level to the front row, and below ear-level to the back, something that is unfortunately unmodifiable and is driving me absolutely insane!! While I realize I will be losing my perfect timbre match, I believe getting a true surround sound is the best option. So... I went to the dealer. Both he and I suggested that the RS-7 (which is discontinued, but may stil be available) would be my best choice for getting the best match. I'm inclined to believe it since it is an 8'' driver that matches the RF-3ii's. However, Klipsch would probably recommend based on their brochure to use an RS-35. Which way should I go? RS-7 or RS-35? Is the additional cost of the RS-7 worth the money? Surrounds aren't used THAT often in movies, and besides I am using all speakers set to small with a crossover at 80hz. So I think either surround would be adequate. But I wonder if my better-than-average ear would much prefer the sound of RS-7 over the RS-35. Opinions? Or think you might have a better speaker suggestion for this dilema? I appreciate all responses!!!

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys... The problem is that the surround floorstanders work OK for the front row because they are at the edge of the steps that leads up to the top row. The top row is the problem with the surround because the floorstander is lower than your ears...so those helicopter scenes or what not you hear the helicopter below you....ouch. It doesn't bother anyone but me, but I want to do the best I can. I could consider putting them on a stand, actually I thought of this months ago, but I need something STURDY! Any suggestions? I have ZERO opportunity to put the speaker on the top row as there is no room. The room opens up on the top floor and there is no place to put either of those speakers on the top row. So the stand would definitely have to be tall. And with tall I worry about someone knocking it over or something happening and I bet it would be obtrusive and ugly as hell. Suggestions on a possible stand or way to do this? If only I had thought of making that top row 6 feet in width .... the things you learn the first time doing things ... The room is 13 x 24 - 25 ft, so I have my limit of space for sure.

Hi guys, been a long time. I have a question regarding setup. I have now made a theater room (pics to follow in the next month or so), but have a dilema. Now that I have 2 rows of seating, the floorstanding surrounds just don't cut it anymore. I don't think I'll have ANY luck finding any RS-3ii's ....which I of course assume would be the best way to do the surrounds. Is the RS-35 the best replacement or will it not blend well with the 3 RF-3ii's I have up on the front stage? So... I guess what I'm asking is what is the most appropriate speaker to get to do the surround sound job properly given that I have the 3 RF-3ii's in the front? Anyone need a pair of RF-3ii's [6] ? []

If you go over to AVSForum you will find many reviews on the Fluance speakers. For the money, they seem like a very good deal.

Trey, I might not know until the late part of May if I will be able to attend. Is this okay? Thankfully I do not have a wedding to go to this year! Indy is a 2 hour drive away from Cincinnati, so I would just drive up.

I was at the local dealer on Monday for a President's Day Sale (one day only) and met a Klipsch rep whose name escapes me at the moment. Anyways, the store had a Klipsch Ultra setup in a theater room. I can't tell you how impressed I was by the sound. My baggy pants were moving from the force of the bass (4 subs). Master and Commander was the movie they were demoing them to. But what is up with the $10000 price tag? I'll be updating my profile after this post as I bought a SVS PB2+ after Christmas. It is a sick, sick sub!

Bchild, just reading that is pissing me off! It seems like you've done everything that my advice would have been. Heckle them until they deal with you. Well might I suggest you calling them once a day at the minimum until the problem is resolved? They have no business in ignoring you or the situation. In fact, why are you hesitating at calling the Ultimate corporate offices? Do it! This is very unprofessional in how they handled your problem, your equipment, and now you! Do not stand for it!! Do NOT let them make the decision of what they are going to do. You tell them. THEY OWE YOU A BRAND NEW SUBWOOFER. Period.

There are MANY choices around $200 - 300 that have DVI connections: Samsung 841/931/941, Zenith DVB318, Denon 1910, Toshiba 5970 (I think that's the model number), Bravo D1/D2, Panny s97 (not yet released), new Sony, etc.

Consider the just-released Denon 1910, it's really for movies. No SACD or DVD-A playback. But it is nice since it upconverts dvds to 1080i/720p (making dvds near-HD quality) over the DVI connection. Also has component, but you can't upconvert over that. And at $269 MSRP, you are getting a good name at a great price. If you don't have DVI on your tv, then consider jumping quickly for a Zenith 318 (I think that's the right model number). The oldest firmwares allow the upconvert over component which violates certain regulations. Act now before the new firmware coming out blocks this feature and only allows upconvert through DVI.

Unfortunately to get a good sound, breaking the bank is your only option. Mixing quintets with reference is really not a great idea. Save up now, do not just buy those quintets just so you can get the surround working. You will end up needing to upgrade again, so get it right the first time. GO REFERENCE. I would highly suggest buying all floorstanders (for center and surrounds) as I have. It is a great sound. If you cannot, go with RC35 or RC7 as center and some nice RS's. I'm not too sure if the recommendation here is RS35 or RS5/7. Ask. But please take my word. Go Reference, no matter how much longer it takes for you to save up and afford those speakers. Receiver wise: I can highly recommend Harman/Kardon. If you look around online, they have plenty of nice refurbished units in your price range. Maybe look for the AVR525 or 630 to meet your 7.1 needs and also have a lot of juice.

I am mainly looking for your inputs as to what Klipsch or SVS (or well heck any sub company for that matter) that would go well with my situation: - Currently have no sub, just the five floorstanders: RF-3II and an HK AVR630 receiver. - Will be for a 13 x 22 foot room, with 7 foot ceilings in some parts, 8 - 9 feet in other parts. Room is pretty much closed off from everything (just one open walkway 36-40 inches wide in a corner). Ceiling would be drywalled. - Looking for performance for movies. I play music a lot, but want this mostly for rocking my movie world. I'm missing the rocking right now cause I have no sub. Those floorstanders can only go so low... I don't want to put a budget out there because I'm really looking for the best bang for the buck that will work great for the room dimensions and speaker information I have given above. Just please give me some ideas. To be honest I was at one point looking at the SVS PB2-plus for $1199. There's no way I would spend more. Less spent is better so I can buy some other stuff...!!! Love the scenery shot, that is great. Would pass on the Dodge...don't see why people find this car that great, I see it as a modified station wagon that actually looks halfway decent. Congrats dude.

You pay for the long distance call but they were Suuuuuuuper helpful on the phone with me. The technician knew exactly how to solve my other problem(and it was my fault). Yeah dude, don't give him anymore money. When he shipped out the subwoofer he was accepting the payment you were to give him...which was the final agreement of $230. Now that he needs something does not justify a raise in the agreed to price. He already sent the subwoofer and you already sent the final price... tell him to f off

A co-worker of mine is about to get speakers for her ceiling in all four of her rooms. The contractor wants to install ELAN speakers. I've never heard of them... has anyone?

Bumperoo. I saw m00n's website and how he did his rear shelf... maybe I should do the same on the sides with the surrounds... ? Not sure if that much weight should / could be supported by that ...

Well it is not going to work. I will not be able to utilize my floorstanders for the surround work in the new theater. I will still use the other 3 floorstanders to work the front. What would you suggest as a good replacement for surrounds? The RS-3II seems like the right option, but I wanted the experts to weigh in. There *is* a possibility to use the floorstanders in a configuration that would put the surrounds behind the first row near the wall but in front of the second row...pointing the speaks to the back shoulders of the front row...doesn't make much sense and won't sound that great IMHO, but I have yet to try it (would give it a go in a few months once room is finished). Trying to squeeze two rows of 4 seats in a 14 foot wide room *and* put the floorstanding surrounds in just doesn't seem feasible. I wish I could hoist those floorstanders in the air, turn them sideways, and point them downwards towards both rows, but no useful suggestions came out of that thread I started a while back. Your suggestions?

I had a similar problem and found editing the host file very important. A good dozen or so entries were in that file that shouldn't have been in there. Another thing. Consider another browser, it might limit you to the number of malicious spyware out there. For example, I have Mozilla (www.mozilla.org) and have had no spyware resurgence on my computer!!

Pako, Just an FYI. At times it might take a while to get a response back to your posts, maybe upwards of 24 hours. It was fine to bump it after 2 hours, but sometimes it will take more than that for someone to respond. It is not as quick as some other forums that are out there, but the quality of the replies is usually high.
