  1. SOLD BTW - These would make an fantastic Christmas gift (wink wink)! WTS one pair Klipsch KG 5.5. I am the original owner, bought them in 1998. At one time I thought I had "blown" them and purchased their replacements and have been sitting for a few years in a closet inside the house (climate controlled etc...). I finally got around to trying to check them out and get them running. I bought a pair of Crites Titanium tweeter diaphragms. That was the problem all along. Wife was giving me the evil eye though saying why didn't we just try to fix them years ago instead of buying those big a** speakers we have now (Palladiums). I did not have a good answer, but I got me some Palladiums though (HEHE). They are in great shape as you can see in the pics. There is a ding in one of the corners and a couple very minor nicks. I captured the nicks so as you can see they're very few and very minor for speakers this age. The grills and frame are also in great shape. The top of both speakers is a little faded compared to the rest of the speakers. I do not know why, they were never in sunlight shining through a window and nothing was ever placed on top of the speakers. I cared about them very much. I am asking for $600 (PRICE LOWERED TO $500). I cannot ship them though, so it would have to be local pick up. You are welcome to come to my home and audition them before purchase if you wish. Or I would be willing to travel 50 miles from Savannah GA. If you wish to see specific pics other than the ones I already have please feel free to ask.
  2. David. I might be interested in some of these items. However, I am not really sure about their applicability. I am specifically looking for parts / kit for KG 5.5. The items descriptions shown in the pics is a little unclear. Thank you for your time.
  3. I always thought that the best chain pizza joint was Godfathers. I never see then around anywhere.
  4. We here in Savannah GA were very blessed to have been spared the worst of the storm. Prayers go out to all those affected by Irma. My Mom stayed in Marco Island (S.W. FL.). They got hit pretty bad but they survived with no major loss. It freaked me out when I was talking with her a couple days before the storm and she told me she was tired of running from hurricanes and she was staying right at home. She has lived in south FL all of her life, I have too. We have run from many hurricanes. She still lives down so she still has been running from for many years after I left. She survived. Many did not.
  5. I did not post this in hope of somebody dismantling their spekers and selling me the tweeters. I was more think along the lines of somebody having bought repair components in the past and never getting around to upgrading the speakers. Just throwing it out there
  6. Sounds fair enough. I might just try taking incremental steps instead of my original intention. So - anybody selling a pair of Crites tweeters?!
  7. Seems like a pretty good deal, even if you just get an empty box that used to contain a toaster. He needs more pics of the 5.2s though.
  8. Finally want to get around to fixing up my old KG 5.5. I need a pair of tweeters and crossovers for one pair of speakers. I do not have any experience with these but it seems that most here are inclined to use the Crites parts. I would prefer the Crites stuff, but if anybody has other suitable parts please let me know. Thank you for your time.
  9. "FM" was always one of my favorites by them (Josie is THE Favorite), but was never listed on a studio CD. You HAD to go buy one of their Greatest Hits CDs to get FM. I found a copy of their "A Deceade of Steely Dan " CD available on "Ultimate Master Disc" 24k gold.
  10. Of the specifically mentioned Steely Dan CDs, I would have to say Aja. I know it was not a part of the scope of the question, but I always liked the CDs that Donald Fagen released, separate from being with SD. Of those, I really like Nightfly and Morph The Cat and Kamakiriad the best. RIP Walter - Passed away yesterday at 67 years old.
  11. Found it to be pretty useful for streaming music at work too. Impressive selection.

    Jokes?

I had seen this before on another audio forum. This cracks me up. I showed it to my wife one day. She was not amused. I was though : )

    Jokes?

I thought you guys might appreciate this....Time is like a river. You cannot touch the water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment of life. As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Nova Scotia back country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a typical man, I didn't stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late.I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play. The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I've never played before for this homeless man.And as I played "Amazing Grace", the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished, I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head was hung low, my heart was full. As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I never seen anything like that before, and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."Apparently, I was still lost...

    What I Got Today!

ARC Ref 3 pre. Just got it the other day. Have not integrated it into the system yet. I am cleaning tube pins and other stuff.
  16. do you have a routine that you go through, such as clean the tube pins, clean the tune sockets anything like that? I just bought another tube item (ARC Ref 3) and before I install it into the system, it seems like now would be the time to clean tube pins, possibly sockets... is there anything else I should do, preventative maintenance - wise?
  17. I am in the market to try out a tube CD player. I realize these are pretty scarce and there is not a whole lot of variety to choose from. I am interested in name brand items that are in very good to mint condition. If you have one and are contemplating selling it, please let me know. Thank you for your time. Phil
  18. Thank you all for your answers and time. Silversport. I also see a Marantz 6000SE "tubed by Heart" for sale in the used market. I have never heard of "Heart" or "Tubed by Heart". I also see a Vincent tube CDP. I cannot find a whole heck of a lot of info on the Vincent. But the Marantz is more prolific in USA. If anything ever went wrong with it, I would most likely have an easier time trying to get any repairs done. Have you done any tube rolling with the 6000SE?
  19. Has anybody tried / auditioned any tube CD players? Every now and then I see one pop up on the 'gon. There is one on there right now that seems to spark my interest for some reason. It is a Shanling T100. Some of the reviews seem to indicate that this CDP is pretty nice. However, there are too many other reviews that mention that this CDP is lacking in bass. That alone is not enough to sway me. Everybody's hearing and the way they process music is a little different. But if it ever kicks that bucket, China is a long way off to be hauling a fragile piece of audio gear. That alone is reason enough to sway me. So my question is, have any of you guys had / auditioned any tube CDPs? Is it even worth pursuing? If it IS worth it, which brands are worth looking into? There do not seem to be a proliferation of companies scrambling to kick off the next gen of tube CD players.
  20. My wife - ever the anti audiophile - said the other day that this thing looks like it is supposed to make grilled cheese sammiches! HA!
  21. I am in the same boat. I order quite a bit of music on CD / SACD. Mostly through amazon. Damn near every one of them is cracked when I receive it. I have a replacement set of jewel cases so when the broken one arrives, it goes into the trash and a new case is used. I also regularly get CDs and SACDs from Russia, Japan, Germany, etc. None of them are broken because extra care was taken during packing. Pretty sad that a CD can come from firkin Russia and not be cracked. But if it comes from right here within our own country, it will be cracked upon arrival.
