  1. I am anxious to see the end result. Did you decide on a woofer? HB
  2. I am by no means an expert. I do like Tractrix horns and ALK crossovers. I have heard numerous great Cornwalls, amazing Jubilee's, Klipschorns stock, and modified, I love them all. Polar response is the horns ability to distribute sound on and off axis. Why is polar response important? Having good polar response is necessary for clubs and theaters when the listeners are off to the sides of the speakers. Constant directivity horns or constant coverage horns typically have good polar response but have to be equalized. Tractrix and Exponential horns are Controlled directivity and tend to beam at high frequencies but typically do not require equalization. Controlled directivity horns are typically used in a home where the listeners are sitting on axis with the speakers. Properly designed Controlled directivity horns can minimize floor and ceiling bounce due to narrower beam width. What is POLAR RESPONSE CURVE? The curve which indicates the distribution of the radiated energy from a sound reproducer for a specified frequency. Also the relative response curve of a microphone for various angles of incidence of a sound wave for a given frequency. Generally plotted on a radial decibel scale. Have fun with your project. HB Anyone who does not like this response please refer to the opening statement.
  3. Time for the 2 way crowd and the anti upgraders to chime in, these are the usual responses. Get a K-510 2 amplifiers and an active crossover, or better yet get a K-402. (Be sure you get a Yamaha active crossover) Have you seen the directivity of those horns they are terrible, you need a Constant directivity design. Tractrix horns are beamy at high frequencies, you need a Oblate Spheroid design. Horns with curved walls cause high order modes, you need straight sided horns. I am sure I missed a few.
  4. Some people don't want to cut their Cornwalls. Others feel that they will turn your Cornwalls into a Jorjen 3, and no longer Klipsch. Klipsch die hards believe if it's not made by Klipsch it cant be any good. I like Tractrix myself, I think it is an improvement over exponential horns.
  5. Chris, thank for the music demo. When I heard it at work, I thought is sounded flat and uninvolving, so I tried it at home, the results didn't vary much. I then listened to the painful re-mastered version and gained some respect for what you are doing. Finally I played my original vinyl white album and by comparison, your un mastered version is much closer to the original. How much music has been clipped and unrecoverable from the re-mastered disk? HB
  6. How about use the mid horn out of the Chorus 2, or did that get lost as well. Very nice sounding horn as I recall. HB
  7. Dire Straits self title album is the same story, Sultans sound horrid, but the Lp is quite good. When Sultans plays on the radio, sounds much better than my cd. I assume the radio stations eq as well. HB
  8. I would like the hear the un-mastered version of crime of the century. I looked into this a bit today, seems like a lot of work. HB
  9. I am sure you are correct. JWC has some great projects, am anxious to see how this one turns out. HB
  10. Yes it did, I got mine sealed about 2 years ago, and I have only played it twice. One time it was played to lay it on to my reel 2 reel. Have you had good success copying LP to digital?
  11. Agree, re-mastered albums are often crap. For instance, I have a MFSL Crime of the Century l LP that sounds phenomenal but the CD counter part is rather lifeless, the same goes for my Dire Straits Lp's. It's sad that mastering makes things worse. HB
  12. To many times I hear a song on my work radio or in my car that I enjoy. When I get home I play that same song on my 2 channel system and sounds awful. Aqualung - sounds raspy on my Cornscala's HB
  13. Looks like a fantastic trip. Thanks for sharing the pics. HB
  14. I love my First Watt, I have never tried the J2, but have owned the F5, and now an F6. I head good things about the J2.....Nice. HB
  15. At what point are there too many tubes? Tube cd player, to a tube preamp, to a tube amp. I couldn't hear an improvement between my JD-100 and my DV-47Ai. I stuck with the pioneer til I heard the Oppo 105. HB
  16. I have heard these before, but never owned any. As I recall, they sounded very good.
  17. Pictures are a prerequisite for project and build threads.
  18. I thought they sounded really good, but you picked the wrong crowd if your shopping Bose. HB
