  1. I'll have to go back out to my friend's house and 1. take better and mre relevant pics and 2. assess the materials used.
  2. Dare we say, nuclear energy? From https://www.world-nuclear.org/information-library/country-profiles/countries-a-f/france.aspx France derives about 75% of its electricity from nuclear energy, due to a long-standing policy based on energy security. Government policy is to reduce this to 50% by 2035. France is the world's largest net exporter of electricity due to its very low cost of generation, and gains over €3 billion per year from this. The country has been very active in developing nuclear technology. Reactors and especially fuel products and services have been a significant export. About 17% of France's electricity is from recycled nuclear fuel. Efficient, reliable, plentiful. Of course the French will be decommissioning many of their nuclear plants. Lets see how the availability and cost curves look in the future as France moves to renewables. Hopefully we will master fusion reactors soon and then folks will have all the power they want. Just my opinion.
  3. No "mcguffin". I believe in using solar whenever possible. Drive a car that gets outstanding gas milage. As soon as I am convinced that the batteries used in hybrids and electrics create less havoc on the environment than they save, I'll get an electric. Wind turbines kill an estimated 140,000 - 328,000 birds each year. In my opinion, this is not a good thing.
  4. Is there any concern regarding the number of birds, including Bald Eagles, that are killed by wind turbine blades?
  5. My recommendation to friends, when they get true classic speakers/components/etc., is to restore to original condition. The grill cloth is rough around the edges so that needs to be replaced. Will get particulars on the woofers and horn drivers. Will also evaluate the cone health.
  6. My apologies. I misunderstood my friend on the serial numbers and manufactured dates. Speaker number one is serial number 1050 manufactured in 1955. Speaker number two is serial number 1263 manufactured in 1956. The speakers look, from what I could see, very similar.
  7. I will verify the serial numbers. Could not get a good look at the second speaker and my eyes are not what they used to be.
  8. That I do not know. Makes sense though.
  9. Yes. ***EDIT***I will verify the serial number of the second speaker.***EDIT*** *** EDIT***My apologies. I misunderstood my friend on the serial numbers and manufactured dates. 10. Thank you, Larry. I will PM you my mailing address.
  11. A good friend just got a pair of Klipschorns from (what appears to be) 1955. Pretty cool looking wood K-5-G Squawker. I searched for the K-5-G and older Klipschorns in general. Some good info. These will need new grill cloth. Appears he will be able to get pretty close on that. Interested in comments from others who have Klipschorns from the 1950s. Did you update or restore to original? Appreciate any comments and feedback? Thank you.
  12. The Darling circuit produces about 3/4 of a watt per channel - if memory serves. Definitely "flea power" range.
  13. I do not think so. Episodes I, II and III track the fall of that cute, innocent and very intelligent little boy into an incredibly evil and terrifying monster. The fall of Anakin Skywalker and his transformation into Darth Vader. Hardly an uplifting story. Episodes IV, V and VI track the defeat of the Emperor and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker through his son. When we saw A New Hope in the theater, people were cheering for Luke, Princess Leia, Han, Obi-Wan and (of course) R2-D2 and C3PO. A New Hope was (is) an uplifting movie. That, the incredible special effects, the score, everything came together and created a new universe for us moviegoers. Just my opinion.
  14. That is great! My Nona entered the USA through Ellis Island about the same time. I found the manifest and a photo of the ship that brought her from Naples to NYC.
  15. Got to spend summer with my prozia, my prozio and my cugini as a teenager. I am so thankful for that opportunity and the experiences.
  16. Mom's side of the family is from Calabria.
  17. Ahhhh....my Italian paisan, Iron Eyes Cody. And, yes, we should definitely Keep America Beautiful.
  18. I saw New Hope in 1977. Waited in line at the theater (one screen) until we could get to the box office, buy our tickets and go in. Awesome movie. A game changer in so many ways. My favorite is The Empire Strikes Back. For me, nothing released after the original trilogy (IV, V and VI) has measured up. I guess Rogue 1 was OK, but not memorable. Jar Jar was an atrocious character. Just my opinion.
  19. About the same as you. There are some gems in there. I do enjoy watching Waters play Pink Floyd music live. I also enjoy watching Gilmour play Pink Floyd music live.
  20. What do yo you think of Waters solo offerings?
  21. Agreed! So much incredible music in the pre-DSOTM Pink Floyd catalog.
