  1. I had glass tops before, so I know if any marks were actually left behind they will easily rub out using a piece of a brown paper bag. I have 20 pound marble slabs on top of mine with thin neoprene like pads and have no problems with that leaving marks or sticking either. The protection you gain with a solid surface cover in comparison with an exposed wood surface is hardly worth the argument. The true concern would be subjective to the owners opinion on the aesthetics of added tops.
  2. I learned how to drift in this car. I went everywhere sideways and always left a trail behind. Competition level sound system using the latest Sony ES DSP and a Soundstream 8 speaker setup including a fully packed trunk full of subs blasting Daft Punk 24/7. My backup ride at the time was a Ford Bronco II with an award winning paint job that included multiple themes like Scottish Plaid that was actually worth more than the vehicle it was on. Oh, to be that dumb, I mean young again!
  3. Niles SI-2125 2-channel power amplifier came home with me today. Met all of my requirements. Went immediately into my rack to run 2/4 of the bookshelf speakers which I have chained to my ceiling (rear Atmos position). More than adequate for that. Take a look at those numbers. 125 watts RMS per channel at 8 ohms (0.02% THD, both channels driven) - 20 Hz to 20 kHz 200 watts RMS per channel into 4 ohms (.02% THD, both channels driven) - 20 Hz to 20 kHz 300 watts bridged RMS (mono) into 8 ohms stable down to 2.67 ohms (4 ohms stable bridged) (for piggy backing multiple speakers) toroidal transformer has two separate windings 4 X 10,000uF 63V 105C Rubycon filter capacitors Input Sensitivity 0.878V for 8 ohm rated input independent adjustable level controls 12-volt trigger (in/out) 26 pounds And for those who like to show off your tubes or just look at topless photos, here is a peak at what's underneath.

    SOLD

SOLD This is the original. Firmware is up to date. This is not the Google Assistant version, and not the current version II either. Includes everything it came with new. Box, packing, manual, remote, cord, and most importantly the Klipsch The Three Walnut tabletop speaker. It will come in a well packed and padded box of appropriate size and will ship USPS. Forum members only please (post count 10+). I prefer that commentary be in PM. If you have a question about the sale you can PM me that also. Please Do Not Post in this thread unless you intend to purchase. If you want to ask general questions, make suggestions, or provide your opinions, there are other threads here to do so. Please understand this is a sale thread and not intended as discussion thread. I will gladly chat with you on the regular threads.
  5. A got a couple of new movies and shows today. There were more not shown here in some other pics I took, but this is a good enough representation. I will have to watch them later, but for now I am feeling like Sushi Girl and Hell Ride would be fun. Remember this, your music streams and files can sound as good or better than those old CD's or your ears may not notice any difference, and your movies may be streaming in 4k HDR and your eyes tell you its looks great or at least close to the same as a disc, but generally the video streaming services audio bitrates really do suck. Close your eyes and compare your steaming movie audio track to physical disc and you can really tell the difference. It measure worse yet. Audio on movie and tv show streaming services hits 768kbps max and is always lossy. Physical discs are capable of producing lossless audio with Atmos peaking at 18000kbps. Expect a minimum of 4X bitrate differentials. For example see exhibit A. https://www.reddit.com/r/hometheater/comments/hw91vs/physical_vs_streaming_audio_quality_graphs_and/
  6. Answer to the posted question is YES. Even my subwoofers need subwoofers. How else am I supposed to simulate 2HZ earthquake zones? The problem is that I also need 582 feet to the wall to reinforce the wavelength boundary. Sorry I did not read the thread.
  7. Impedance variations can cause significant changes in the frequency response at the amplifier output if the amplifier's output impedance is too high. If the amplifier output impedance is very low (high damping factor), the resistive, inductive and capacitive portions of the speaker impedance will have little impact on the amplitude or phase response at the output of the amplifier. If the amplifier output impedance begins to approach that of the speakers (damping factor of 1), the resistive, inductive and capacitive portions of the speaker impedance will have a major impact on the amplitude and phase response at the output of the amplifier. Simply put, it depends on your speakers and your amplifiers in combination with each other. Enough is enough, and too little is an audible concern. Functionally, In most common use cases, one amplifier with a damping factor of say (10) will in most cases not result in more than about 2db of audible change from another amplifier with a damping factor of say (3000). Unless you have like 1/2 ohm 12V car audio subwoofers or something weird going on. My speakers have a significant impedance dip and severe phase angle change at a specific low frequency. A higher damping factor can perform a function that will kind of assist the amplifier allowing it to sort of ease through those sudden swings. Or you could also add more amplifier headroom. I do both.
  8. Welcome. Thanks for dropping by here. I liked Islanders suggestion the best. Timbre match all of your base. Timbre match all of your height. I would be willing to compromise for the surround position and suggest Quartet for the surround channels. Some rooms can get away with as little as 8 inches of open space behind the passive. If they are positioned toward the rear of your seating position and not actually on the side I like them raised at least 18" and toed-in. Do not put your main seating position up against the back wall. While you search for your purchase, if you happen find a pair of Chorus then your golden. Put the Forte's in the surround position and you are done for a very long while. RP-600M are for height channels in that setup. Multi channel music, 2 channel, movies, who cares, just hit the button and put on what ever speakers you want to listen to what ever decoder you choose.
  9. Welcome. You have come to the right place to share. I Have not heard both myself. Just trust your own ears. Looking to your evaluation and review.
  10. How ya' doing George. Good to see you posting every once in a while. I just got myself a Marantz AV7703, but that ones not for the Chorus II's.
  11. The included installed upgrades have a significant importance to the price listed here. It has been more than 3 years since we have the likes of it. Even more rare to see that on usaudiomart. I like that he is offering a repair path for interested parties. I remember when I drove through a snow storm in Minnesota in the middle of Winter at night 900 miles round trip to buy a Walnut Oil pair. When I got there I was informed that there were more than 10 buyers within an hour from him waiting on standby to see if I showed up. I am positive this seller has at this point multiple buyers willing to pay, who are simply trying to working out the logistics. Usually these deals are immediately fulfilled and taken down in the first hour and tend to go widely unnoticed. Granted there are issues here, but not hard ones to overcome, and the upgrades more than make up for that.
  12. Check this place out. (FOR A GOOD TIME CALL...) Free printed full catalog with hundreds of pages mailed to you if you want one. They are local to me so I just go there myself. Inside the showroom there are recording rooms, stage equipment, musical instruments, camera, and 3 help desks with actual people who are there to help you with whatever you are trying to do. The warehouse is in the back with another desk. I get speaker wire there because I can get remnants of full rolls at big discounts. https://www.fullcompass.com/ Welcome to Full Compass Systems, your Pro Audio, Video, Lighting and Musical Instrument experts. 13. Marantz AV7703. Mint and barely used. Local sale. Came with everything it should have. I will take the stickers off now. This is my first true pre/pro for home theater use. For the past 6 years I have been running pre-outs to external amps on various AVR's. The main goal for this upgrade was to remove one more wasteful space heater from my home theater room. More VA's on tap for the real amps and less heat to pump out of the room. If I gain sound quality or a few extra features, then those are welcome bonuses. The unit is a step up model for this rack. Installation was a breeze. The previous Marantz I/O layout was so similar that I did not need to reroute any cables on the back of the rack. I already had enough amps running for the 5 base and 4 ceiling channels. I ran Audyssey Editor App and I'm running again. The room and subs were setup previously. I do not own any XLR cables, but have nice unbalanced IC's. The subwoofer runs are 30-40 feet so maybe I should XLR those? Eventually another 4-6 channel amp could be useful for Atmos and a simplified zone 2 option. Before you ask, that thing sitting on top of the Marantz is a 12V 200MM X 30MM PC case fan. I pulled a USB powered controller board from a laptop cooler so I can control the speed with a variable switch dial and it powers on and off automatically. Not the most elegant looking device, but it didn't cost me anything either.
  14. Denon will revise the prices of some Hi-Fi audio products from February 1, 2021 (Monday). Amid rising prices of materials and parts used in products in recent years, we have endeavored to improve management efficiency and maintain product prices. However, the continuous increase in costs was beyond the range that could be absorbed by corporate efforts, and we had no choice but to revise the product price. We will continue to strive to provide a stable supply of high-quality products to audiophiles who love music, and we appreciate your understanding. Product number JAN code Suggested retail price (tax excluded) Current price → New price PMA-SX11 49-51035-05641-7 380,000 yen → 420,000 yen DCD-SX11 49-51035-05640-0 360,000 yen → 400,000 yen PMA-600NE 49-51035-07097-0 52,000 yen → 59,000 yen DCD-600NE 49-51035-07101-4 47,000 yen → 53,000 yen
  15. I still have my Soundstream Reference amps from back in the day. Also have the Sony ES system that drove them. All boxed up to waste away. They are 12V car audio. Krell must have jumped on the bandwagon and licensed the name for a trial run in the home market. While everyone else was out buying anything with 1000W stamped on it (false advertising and would blow up in 12 months) I was killing it with pure Class A sound quality capable of driving 1/2 ohm loads. I remember Sony TA-N9000ES is the one you wanted for your home. You can buy the Krell for a collectors item or just use it to grill your steaks because it will surely be hot enough to do a good job of that. The Adcom 555 II has now long been a boat anchor without a full restoration which can easily be done, but will cost you more than you pay for it. Those parts did not stand the test of time.
  16. The DAC in question is the 8 channel AKM AK4458. So what do they do now? The AK4458 is voltage driven. Any other voltage driven DAC available today is guaranteed to be high in distortion at more than 1V-2V. Any Current driven DAC is going to cost much more per unit and will also require far more expensive supporting circuits. The 2020 models have already seen a substantial price increase from the former model years. Present inventory is already exceedingly low and many buyers are still looking. How will the model revisions compare? What other changes will we see in the industry this year?
  17. NOTICE REGARDING D / A CONVERTER CHANGES FOR SOME PRODUCTS 4 02, 2021 Due to the fire at the semiconductor manufacturing plant of Asahi Kasei Electronics Co., Ltd. that occurred on October 20, 2020, it became difficult to continuously procure semiconductor parts including the D / A converter used in some of our products. We are doing it. We have continued to produce products using the parts inventory that we already have and the parts newly procured from the market, but it is expected that it will be difficult to resume the supply of such parts at an early stage. We have decided to change to alternative parts and continue production. Since the D / A converter is a component that has a particularly large effect on the sound quality of the product, when changing it, select alternative components, redesign the peripheral circuits and software, evaluate the sound quality by the sound master, and perform sound tuning. It was carried out in the same process as during development. As a result, it has become possible to continue to deliver products of the same quality as before, while maintaining the same sound quality, performance, and functions as the products before the D / A converter change. We will continue to do our best to deliver products that satisfy our customers. Thank you for your cooperation. Products subject to D / A converter change AV amplifier: AVC-X6700H , AVR-X4700H , AVR-X2700H , AVR-X1600H Link needs translation (which I provided above) https://www.denon.jp/ja-jp/news/2021/21005
  18. Maybe sensitivity ratings are important to you also? When I say this I immediately thought Classe CA-5100. AB though. Does Ice Tunnel count as cool too? When I searched, I couldn't locate a currently active sale for one available. You could try WTB. Expect to pay $1800 or higher. I wish I had a pair of CA-5200's myself. Maybe in 10 years I can get them. In the meanwhile, I will soon be looking for a trash pile 2 channel for rear atmos speakers. Requirements: price of dirt and must have 12v trigger.
  19. Like you already figured out, in your case I definitely want to use a powered drywall cutout tool. Make a template and scribe it. Much cleaner and more accurate. Next option would be to use a proper handheld drywall wall saw. Another choice would be to use a Dremel with a proper cutting tool. However others may like to know that in pinch when doing roughwork, which in this case your are not, if your just cutting one hole and don't have anything else available, just put on a thick leather work glove and grab a sawzall blade and a pair of safety glasses for you and who ever you employ to hold the vacuum cleaner for you. Hold the blade in your hand and use a tight grip and some common sense while you plug away. Works for cutting ridged foam board too. It's perfectly safe, but obviously not the best for practical purposes, so don't go telling them I told you so.
  20. Black granite provides protection to the tops of my speakers and matching equipment racks, but not because I have cats. Zero chance the granite moves. I figure the 20% added mass can't hurt either, but that change is still likely to be inaudible. If I were to add speaker spikes, that might have more of a difference now though.
  21. Friends I know who worked at the Harley Davidson Factory had a similar purchase program. Loyal employees were allowed to buy 1 new bike every year and they would usually sell it the month before the big Sturgis Rally the next year. Every year you got the newest ride. 4 or 5 years later you had a free bike. I heard similar things from the GMC factory crowd. Not surprised to hear that the Klipsch employees were able to work their way up the ladder so to speak. If I had the choice between these three employee programs, I would have taken the free Harley. Sorry Klipsch.
  22. I don't want to be so presumptuous as to speak for @Schu directly, but I read it as he was just saying thank you! I also enjoyed reading your blog. I am looking forward to reading your next blog.
  23. LOL! I just saw that this thread was resurrected from 21 years ago. LOL! I just put 35 cents into the payphone and never even got an answering machine. Not even a dial tone. Who should I contact for a refund? LOL! @JohnJ
