  1. I'm not thinking horn subs. Too big for about 99.9% of the human race according to a study that was never done. Too big even for most klipschorn and la scala owners, someone may have once said. No, I'm thinking vented or sealed, big as needed with very powerful class D amp. There's many great subs out there that would be quite satisfactory, performance-wise. But they don't look the part. They need to look like Klipsch Heritage. Klipsch could do it so easily, I would think...and I have zero experience in the audio industry, so I should know!
  2. Yeah, I know PWK never designed and sold a sub for mating with k-horn, la scala, belle, cornwall, heresy, etc., but... Klipsch now sells lots of products under the "Heritage" banner that were not around when PWK was. So, why in the name of all that's right and good, does klipsch not design, build and market a high-quality sub (or three) to go with the huge installed base of heritage speakers that have been sold all over the world? Make grille styles and cabinet finishes optional to match different era's of Heritage speakers. Don't be too greedy on pricing and they will sell faster than Hope can build! Thoughts?
  3. That beast ought to do your Cornwalls proud! Of course, now you'll have to add a 2nd sub!😁😎😡
  4. Why is it called "distressed", anyway? I'll take my oak stress-free, thank you very much!
  5. I also have sticky little rubber thingys that Klipsch graciously provided to put under the corners of the risers of my Cornwall IV's. Unlike the flat-washer-shaped sticky little rubber thingys that they provided to protect the speakers from the grille magnets during shipping (I suppose), these sticky little rubber thingys are little hemispherical nubs (I'm sure just like DJEditor's). Klipsch probably paid about 3 cents for them. I'm equally sure that if you try to move the speaker after installing them, they will un-install themselves. Or at least, one will. I think the best remedy depends on your floor. Yes, on a hard, non-carpeted floor, I would go with good felt pads. On carpet, nylon sliders would be my preference. Or, if I wanted to go all audiophile, I might find a way to do spikes (on carpet). I have carpet over concrete. I intent to pick up enough sliders to do the job, ASAP!
  6. No offense taken. I get what you're saying, and I agree. Physical media is not going to be the main way people access video and audio going forward. I suppose we're already in that future, in fact. But I already have a fairly substantial collection of LP's, CD's, SACD's, etc. I don't intend to sell them. I like physical media! I would like to continue buying music on CD or SACD, but it's getting both more difficult and more expensive. Amazon has been my go-to music store for quite a while but they seem to be pushing streaming and moving away from CD sales. I guess I'm basically a relic of a bygone era. πŸ™ƒ
  7. Just for the record, I didn't accumulate my CD collection to impress anyone.. Today, CD-quality streams are typically $20/month, correct? I probably don't average much more than that on new CD's. Basically, I'm too far in to stop now! Besides, I don't hear much compelling new music these days. It may be out there, but I'm not hearing it. So, I'll keep looking for CD sources. CD Universe looked good. I had over $200 worth in my cart when I noticed the "Adult" header. I don't know if I want to do business with an establishment that so prominently features porn as part of their business. Yeah, I know, ebay sells it too, but at least they're more discreet.
  8. I've bought a few used CD's on ebay but never really considered it for new stuff. I'll look a little closer. Since the decline of B&M record stores, I have become almost exclusively an Amazon shopper as far as music recordings. I have checked out B&N a few times; CD Universe...maybe. I'm not sure. There's been a couple I found whose web site seemed primitive. Amazon really spoils a person in that regard! I'm sure many people are in the same boat, with no high-speed internet access. Seems that is the last "utility" provided in new housing developments in SW Missouri...and then there's like you say, the true rural areas. I'm not against streaming, but I prefer to own, not rent my favorites, plus I already have 2500-3000 CD's. I love the CD/SACD formats. I pretty much dig all optical disc formats but CD and SACD are my preferred ones ,due simply to their audio-centric designs.

    CD's at Amazon

Seems like they are trying to milk all the money out of the format that they can, while simultaneously trying to kill it off. Fewer titles are available and sometimes when they are, it's only at crazy stupid high prices, and usually as imports. Most titles can't be sampled anymore unless you go into their streaming platform where of course, you get the hard-sell to subscribe to that service. It's just a sad state of affairs, as far as I'm concerned. And I don't see many options to Amazon as far as CD purchases. I find very few on-line sellers, and the ones I do find, don't seem too prosperous. I always thought the CD would never completely go away, but I'm starting to wonder about that conclusion now. Any other CD lovers out there? What is your Amazon alternative of choice?
  10. To be honest, I'd forgotten there was a KLF-10. I do recall the KLF-20 and 30. I guess the 10 came along later? Anyway...I've never owned a pair of KLF's, but I did own a pair of RF-82 II's for a while, and they were quite impressive sounding for the money I paid. I prefer wood veneer to vinyl (don't we all?), but ultimately, to me it's about sound and value (and vinyl can look real nice, too). I would bet the KLF's will have better resale though, if that's a factor.
  11. Confession...I haven't actually tried listening to the Cornwall IV's without the subs. They were already in place and I have no other system for them, so...I was pretty much committed to using them whether I needed them or not. With a 40Hz crossover, they should at least not be doing much to muck things up. Although, that said, even with that low setting, I think they are making an audible contribution above that. The controls on the Velodynes aren't real precise, plus there's considerable interaction between them. I'll switch the subs out and run the cornwalls full-range soon, just out of curiosity.
  12. ...And I listened to all of them!πŸ™‚ It's just that "Money For Nothing" is a tune, that when everything is as it should be, can put a big spontaneous, goofy, ear-to-ear smile on my face as soon as that guitar comes in in the opening. And nothing I've owned has done that for me better than klipsch heritage speakers.
  13. Whew, that's a relief!😌 I don't want to spend my golden years locked up in a tin shed in Hope, Arkansas, or even in.......INDIANAPOLIS!!!😱
  14. I've always wondered about how psycho-acoustics figures into our perception of speaker break-in. I definitely think it is a factor, but how much of one, I don't know. It does seem logical that mechanical moving parts will go through a break-in period, so I think both factors contribute to what we hear. Holy-moly, how I've missed what I'm now hearing again; the startling dynamics and the crystalline delineation of detail! Each instrument can be easily picked out of the mix. Bass so powerful and clean! I loved and enjoyed my 901's for over ten years, but this is a whole 'nother level of clarity and low distortion. My 901's made lots of bass, but it was bass with a pillow-muted punch. These Cornwalls....I wouldn't call it pile-driver bass...more like steam locomotive bass! I honestly think I'm getting the best sound I've ever gotten. I can't say it's the best sound I've ever heard; that honor still goes to the klipschorns I listened to in 1986 at Flip's Stereo in St. Louis, MO, but it's the best sound in my house! Hap, hap, happy here in SW MO! Thanks PWK and to all the folks at Klipsch who are "the keepers of the sound"! It's good to be home!!!
  15. Speakers are where I last left them: I had moved them further apart but I guess I also toed them in a bit more, too, because they still measure 7' 9" apart center to center, while I'm sitting about 11' away. Maybe not a perfect equilateral triangle, but I ain't complaining. I have the speaker's axis' crossing just in front of me, aiming at opposite shoulders. I really don't like to hear speaker location, anyway, and I'm not now. I think subs in/speakers out will push the speakers too far apart. That said, I'll get around to trying it someday but I don't want to mess up the good that is going on right now. It was almost a drop'em and rock'em set-up. Even with the subs: I just cranked up to where they match well at the crossover and below, which only required cranking up their volume to match the cornwall's better, and tweaking the phase a bit. Oh yeah, I did drop the x/o a bit today -down to 40Hz from the 50Hz setting I started with. I had thought I had a little too much heaviness in the bass and now that seems banished. They passed the "Money For Nothing" test today -with flying colors, I might add. Prior to that, they also passed the "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" test. "Good rockin' tonight"! 😎
  16. Congrats on beautiful cornwalls! Looks great! Enjoy!
  17. Smoke alarms? ...check! Both the new speakers and the old audiophool survived a fairly extended listening session today, with neither flame nor smoke intruding on the festivities, so all is well AFAIK. That said, I shall remain vigilant just in case the removal of the eleven little rubber thingys (per speaker) may at some point, provoke a resonance or imbalance that could possibly result in any manner of unpredictable and possibly unpleasant outcomes. πŸ˜‰
  18. ...around the magnets on the backside of my speaker grilles.......What am I supposed to do with them? Owner info says to remove them from the four corners of the grille, but there's eleven of the little buggers back there. They are around almost every magnet. Do I remove them all? Actually, that's what I did, but have I voided my warranty? Will my speakers explode into a ball of noxious, flaming audio gas? Desperate audiophool needs to know!
  19. In the pictures, they were 7'9" apart, center to center, while my big, fat head is about 11'6" from the speakers. I can't do much w/o moving subs inboard, but I did get them a few inches further apart and I moved my seat a few inches closer. The room is 15 X 22 and the speakers are on the short wall. The subs and the wide cabinet kind of limit placement options. I'll probably try putting the subs on the inside and the speakers out. The wires are long enough that I can do it either way.
  20. Today was the day. I picked them up at the YRC terminal in Baxter Springs Kansas. They just set them in the back of my truck palletized and all I had to do was strap them down. Now I'm home and they're breaking in with some Widespread Panic (seems appropriate). They seem absolutely fine to me. I think the only reason they were B-stock was because the boxes looked like something, maybe a forktruck, had kind of sideswiped them. But the speakers look great. I see no problems. We've got woofage, squawkage and tweetage. Everything checks out A-OK.☺️ That's great to hear. Congrats on the Heresy's. Like the Cornwall's, everybody seems to love'em. My speakers were 18 days getting from Marinette, WI to Baxter Springs, KS. I don't think it should take that long, but SW MO / SE KS are kind of backwaters, I guess. All's well that ends well! I was a little concerned about how the natural cherry cornwalls would look next to my dark oak cabinets but I think it's fine. Here's a couple of quick pics. They're a little grainy because it was late in the evening and my camera isn't too good in low light. I'll try to get some better ones in a day or so. BTW, how long till they're broken in? They sound pretty darned good right now!
  21. 8/16/20 PM update: "NOW ON TRAILER ****** AND ON-HAND AT BAXTER SPRINGS KS USA" Yippee-I-Ay! Almost home!! 😍
  22. 8/16/20 update: "Trailer ****** enroute to Baxter Springs, KS"! Tomorrow could be the day. Huzzah!!
  23. Thanks. Spikes can be used instead of casters, but I don't have the spikes for it.πŸ™
