ok ok sarcasm received, i do apologize for my ignorance about this stuff -- was just hoping that someone could offer some help!

ok i was able to get them off, wired everything up but now no sound is coming out of the midrange driver. i thought the problem might be that i switched the polarity on the back of the driver, but i tried that and still no sound?

i talked to bob, here's his reply, check out the two connectors circled below but i don't have a soldering iron, never used one before. any ideas for how to get the soldered-on wire off the circuit board? "The terminal come all the way through the board and are connected by the bare wire on top of the board. You need to unwind the soldered bare wire from the two connections and then the board will slip off of the terminals. Then with the board out of the way, you can connect the wires you show under the nuts that old the terminals on."

Hello! Hoping someone can help here, I'm installing new crossovers onto my Cornwall II, and I'm almost done. All that's left are the two cables that run but the Input terminal, but I'm not sure where to put them? I removed the screws to the circuitboard, but there's two pieces still braced against it so I can't lift it up. Pictures attached, does anyone know where to put the binder cables? Second question...for two out of the three drivers, i forgot to take pictures of the L-R wires before, so I'm guessing on which post they go on. is it dangerous for the speaker to test it out like this, and will i know immediately if they're backward? i installed the 16 gauge wire and it sounded fine for a few days, then the fuzz came back. i just turned everything off and rotated all the knobs about 30x each -- fuzz disappeared. should i still swap the cables at the amp end and wait for the fuzz to come back?

Hoping the forum can help me narrow down an issue I've been having with my right speaker. The volume keeps cutting in and out, producing static and fuzz. I'm using 12 gauge into a pair of Cornwall II speakers, its a tight fit but I"m able to get it into the small hole of the binding posts with minimum difficulty. I just ordered some 16 gauge wire to swap in as a test -- is that a possible reason for the problem though? It only happens with the right speaker, never the left. Sound is coming from a Marantz 2230 that I bought fully restored a year ago, so I hope it isn't the receiver. Anything else I should try to isolate this?

i just bought this pair of Cornwall II: https://www.ebay.com/itm/332775195601 they sound great to my ears, but i'm always curious about sonic upgrades like the crites. anyone know if crossover upgrades would be worth it for me?

I'm currently running a set of Chorus I with Crites tweeters upgrades paired with a Marantz 2230 and have been very happy with this combination. But I always keep my eyes out for deals and found a set of local mint Cornwall IIs unmodified for $850. Do you guys think it's worth it for me to upgrade? I mostly listen to soul, jazz, and rock on vinyl. Thanks for your input!

I checked out the fuse on the back and it's definitely toast. Not sure what happened, but I'm going to order a replacement online and see if that works before I look for a repair place (I'm in NYC). Should I also look inside for them?Based on the recommendation of the original Marantz seller, I need a 3Amp 250V fuse. I bought these but they're too short and skinny...does anyone know what length/width I need? Looking to buy on Amazon for prime shipping...

Two years ago I bought a Marantz 2230 off a trusted eBay seller (R & S Wilhelm Recording) and it's been working beautifully...until last night. I came home from work and it just wouldn't power on, nothing happens when I hit the button. With my limited knowledge, I have no idea where to start diagnosing the issue. I've already e-mailed the seller for tips too, but has anyone experienced this with a vintage Marantz before? In case this is relevant, here's the full restoration details from the original eBay listing: *'This receiver has had a full professional restoration, including the following: Full recap of power supply, power amplifier, tone amplifier, phono amplifier, AM tuner, muting control, FM MPX stereo decoding, FM detector and FM IF amplifier boards (essentially every board in the unit). General function electrolytic capacitors replaced and upgraded with quality Panasonic FC and Elna Silmic II caps. Signal path capacitors replaced with Elna Silmic II and Panasonic ECW/ECQ film caps. Large filter capacitor upgraded to Panasonic THA type, and by-passed with Panasonic ECW film cap. Speaker coupling capacitors replaced with Panasonic THA type and by-pass with Panasonic ECW film caps. Problematic 2SC458 transistors (found in phono and pre-amp) replaced and upgraded to 2SC2240 type. AM/FM tuner aligned for peak performance. Power transistors cleaned, re-greased and re-seated with new mica insulators. Questionable solder joints re-flowed. I've chosen to retain the incandescent dial lamps. I prefer their original look as the LED replacements look too intense to my eye. Controls cleaned and lubricated with Caig's Deoxit and Caig's Faderlube. Variable capacitor cleaned with QD contact cleaner. Voltage, bias and equal clipping adjusted to spec on power supply, main amp board and phono pre boards.' *

Here's what Ortofon replied: The magnet used on the stylus can vary ever so slightly in intensity. Some slightly higher, some slightly lower. Each lot of styli are quality tested to verify that they fall within a certain tolerance. To give you some extra perspective, your moving magnet phono preamp multiplies the output of the cartridge by 40dB, then your amplifier applies a max of 38dB. So that works out to be just shy of 8000 times the voltage of the cartridge (this is when your amplifier is at maximum, but just illustrating). So, overall the variation can be more perceptible after this amplification.

i think the marantz is only mm, there's no switch on the back.

just the stylus

As the title says, I recently upgraded from an Ortofon OM5E to OM20 stylus and I'm really happy with the results -- less sibilance, more detail but I've also noticed something strange -- the volume is lower than before. I'm using a Marantz 2230 and a pair of Klipsch Chorus I and usually keep the volume at the 9 o'clock position. Now that I've upgraded, I feel like I can push it to almost 11 o'clock for the same levels. Has anyone experienced this before? I'm not complaining because the audio improvement is so good, I don't mind boosting the volume. Just curious why it's happening. Thanks!

Yep I picked them up, they're in great condition! Purchased from the original owners for $500 cash and a short drive to long island from brooklyn. you guys were right of course-- the midrange jump from the 2-way KG 5.2 to the 3-way Chorus drivers makes a big difference. I haven't noticed the bass reduction either, as I live in an apartment and have it reduced on the EQ anyway. Regardless, i love these things! the treble doesn't seem to have the same sparkle as the KGs -- maybe the titanium drivers would be an improvement? im very curious. pics of my set up are attached, including a shot of the KG5.2 next to the Chorus, for size reference More images here

I'm picking them up on Thursday and will definitely post pictures and first impression comparisons with the KG5.2. I've heard the Crites diaphragms are easy to install too -- I'll probably do that soon. The crossovers, though, seem like they require more experience.

Thank you @billybob, they appear to be in good condition judging by photos but I'll check them out tonight. I've heard used Chorus speakers are prone to blown tweeters -- is that flaw going to be obvious when I'm testing them out? Just wondering what to listen for..

I've been looking for a Heritage speaker and found a pair of Chorus I for $500 -- seems like a pretty good deal for my budget, but I've never heard the Chorus before -- would this be a noticeable upgrade or should I wait for a pair of Chorus IIs? I mostly listen to jazz, soul, folk, funk, and rock -- not so much hip-hop. Thanks for your input!

Still looking for a pair of Cornwalls in good condition, preferably with updated crossovers/drivers. And if you own a pair of heritage speakers in the Brooklyn/NYC surrounding area and would be down for a listening party, well I would certainly appreciate that too! Thanks all
