  1. My two cents on RPTVs... Back about seven or eight years ago I was in the market for a TV, I went into McDuff's (Radio Shack?) and looked around. I was not in the market for an RPTV, but was really impressed with a 45 inch Pioneer model set up with the other RPTVs. The price was ~$2300 and I negotiated a free 3-yr warranty (~$300) since the salesman was certain it would not fail (and I said if that were true, I'd never have to exercise the warranty). As it turned out, I did use the warranty to replace the screen which had some spots on it-no problem. I still have that RPTV and am ready to replace it (bigger model and it is showing it's years). I've decided on a Mitsubishi model unless I can afford a Pioneer Elite. Both MIts and Pioneer have great reps. The DPL model look intersting...
  2. Kinda funny, but I have always made the menatal substitution of TheEar as TheAss. Something I can't shake. CT
  3. I have two sets of quintets. One set is the front effects for my home theater/music system (my Yamaha DSP-A1 supports this-rather well, I must say) and the other set awaits my constructing my surround sound system for my bedroom. I was using quintets as rears until I got a pair of Forte IIs and moved my Quartets to the rear. Now I feel like I'm underdriving my Quartets, but damn, it sounds REEAALLL GOOOOOD. Yes, the quintets are good, but they are not the kind of speaker for someone who expects alot from their system. As you upgrade, you can move the around and make use of them. Hell, bring 'em in to the office and enjoy. CT
  4. I see people bidding on OLD, *USED* (supposedly legite) Klipsch t-shirts on e*B*a*y. WTF, have people lost their minds? It's a friggen t-shirt! Get a grip. Can someone give a good explanation for this? CT
  5. kenratboy, Have you tried working the bottom end of the 4638s with something like the Beringer Feedback Destroyer? I've heard you can get to about 25Hz with this. I purchased the Beringer, but have not had the time to work with my *DUAL* 4638s. The SVS subs may get lower, but I certainly cannot complain about the music and movie low end I'm getting now (yes, my neighbors have noticed). I remember the schweet deal we got on the 4638s: $216.00 DELIVERED! Totally insane and worth every penny. Weighing in at 146 lbs, these beasts are gonna be really difficult/impossible to ship economically. Mine have become fixtures in my small home. Your best bet is to sell it locally for a real cheap price. Good luck. CT
  6. Some Yamaha sound processors support front effects speakers and provide an altered (timed delayed...) output to simulate different sound stages and movie environments. I have a Yamaha DSP-A1 and really enjoy the addition of the front effects speakers. It's something that needs to be listened to in order to really appreciate; it's kinda like adding another dimension to the soundscape. I use Klipsch Quintets, which seem to work for me (right now).
  7. Your price for the KLF-C7 is too high. I got a new one for less delivered.
  8. Be careful prodj101, you are igniting yet another flamewar like the one you were heavily embroiled in about ~"music for bombing Iraq". During that one, you and your flames were stamped out and you laid there complaining that you were picked on and didn't start it. Well, here's fair warning from an observer-keep it on topic and out of the gutter. That way, regardless of your opinion, everyone will respect it. Hey, if you think you can build better cheaper, go for it. But, listen to what others have to say even if it's not what you want to hear. A sign of maturity and growth is being able to accept the other view for it's value; regardless of your age or wisdom. These forums are a goldmine of knowledge, experience and opinions. Take discretionary advantage of these free gifts and discard the rest. CT
  9. I'd love to get of copy of Doom III. Any help available? CT
  10. I use Quintets for front effects on a Yamaha DSP-A1 based system and they work great, replacing a pair of KG 1.2s. They seemed more suited for the task since these speakers supply subtle audio. Yamaha uses these channels as time-biased channels off the mains to produce different spatial environments. I am not familiar with your Denon gear, but if your Denon already does 7.1, why would you need additional front speakers?
  11. $225 plus shipping for a mint KLF-C7 sounds pretty good. I got a new one from OneCall (www.onecall.com - I think) for about $100 more (quote me: Timeliness is next to Godliness). Good luck. TC
  12. Boa12, I'm driving the 30s with my Yamaha DSP-A1, the mains (30s) set to large and the LFE/Bass output set to both (SW and mains). The main speaker wires connect to the LFE posts on the 30s and is bridged to the mids/highs with the gold plate bridge connector. Should the 12" woofers in the 30s use separate amping? At what frequency is the 2nd octave? 13. I have to admit, when I first tested the KLF-30s (without the two JBL 4638s), I thought they were defective...not that much on the low end. Even after making sure my DSP-A1 was config'ed correct, I took off the speaker connector plates to make sure everything was hooked up internally. The horns on these throw much more sound than than the 12" woofers; I had to crank it to convince myself by sound and woofer movement that they were working. I guess I'm just used to heavier base now. I just wish I wasn't working six days a week and more able to enjoy them. Oh well...soon. 14. KAiN64: Thanks for the reminder. dndphishin: Actually, I also have this realization in my car stereo (Toyota 4Runner...pretty damn good stereo!). It's true...there is a difference in the playback. Find a record company that cares (GRP records hosts some of the best jazz musicains around-try em-you'll like em). The JBLs are thumpin' and bumpin' - I now (live) in a (live) concert hall. avman: The 30's just sound so much better than my Qaurtets and and Forte IIs (to me). Maybe I just needed a change? erdric: they are idle... 15. Just replaced my (recently bought) Forte IIs with KLF-30s. WOW! Have I psyched myself or are these SOBs something else? These things sound fantastic. Perhaps I should do a comparison between the KLF-30s and Fortes IIs. The KLFs just sound so good and make you take notice and enjoy. Maybe it's me. However, the difference I perceived made me think of the recording quality of music. I have CDs I enjoy because I like the talent and interaction of the musicians. And then there are talented musicians who are fortunate to be recorded by labels who make quality a concern. Not the quality of the signal, the quality of the recording. Do the instruments appear (sound) like they are coming from distinct points in the sound source? Maybe. There are those recordings which sound like the mikes are on the other side of a glass plane from the musicians, giving a "flat" sound. And, there are those recording which make you feel like you are sitting in the audiance of a concert; a full 3D-type (almost) sound. I always go to my favs for audio testing and enjoyment. FYI, GRP Records seems to do a pretty good job and have good artists (if you like jazz). Anyway, the KLF-30s sound GREAT and I wish I had known about them a long while ago. Happy listening. 16. So, I need to build four identical mono/unbalanced cables (I'm using two sub outputs from my Yamaha amp); one end is RCA type, the other end is TRS. The RCA ends are for my Yamaha amp and subwoofer amp, the TRS for the Beringer. The wiring is Tip (signal) to Tip and Sleeve (ground) to Sleeve. That's it? 20. Personally, I like The Ears's idea of forrestchump sticking his head in a plastic bag. But first, he'll have to pull it out of his rectum! I think everyone understood what they were buying. Yes, it is a price/performance thing. Unfortunately, some of us don't have unlimited funds for things like stereo gear and have to make compromises. This seemed like a good one to me. 22. I think kenratboy mistakenly referenced me in his reply to "forrestchump" regarding the JBLs (we share the same icon). 23. Sounds like you got a pair - how kool. Wow, I didn't realize Cornwalls were so big (never seem 'em, except pictures). PartsExpress has grill cloth. I plan on making a frams that goes around the inside edges of the front and either nailing flat or mitering the corners. I think I'm gonna use Velcro to stick the grill to the cabinet. Seems like an easy project (famous last words). ~ $120.00 estimated delivery cost to Florida. Back in the boxes??? How unfortunate. Crank 'em up and enjoy!!!
