  1. I have the 2000, 2000d and have had a 2080 as well in my past. Yea very nice amps. I also have had sa1000 and a few other realistics. Including a electrostat speaker set. Surprisingly good stuff.
  2. I had a fool who was doing crap like this. If there was a carver TFM 45 on craigslist and I know cos I posted it back in 2015. He would post a TFM75 - Yea unobtanium amp for a lower $ than the TFM45 I was selling. Making the TFM45 look over priced and hence not sell. It works for a while I think before people figure out its a fake ad. Then it adds to the publicity that someone would do BS like that to get it. But if you panic, you lose. He'd buy it out from you and delete his ad. I wonder who he scammed out of what - cos it sure as Heck didn't work on me.
  3. Oh I saw that on some of the 70's Khorns the top hat doesn't come off. Do the side panels come off on those ? What year did the top become removable. And new Khorns are MDF ? when or if - did that change ?
  4. Oh cool, thanks from someone who may have built mine - Very nice. Let me read and google and learn etc - but you're saying the top pentagon shaped piece is Poplar lumber core plywood ? Not edge glued wood ? Cos I seem to have distinct grain which changed in a sharp line and when viewer from the back edge where its painted black the wood grain also changes as though it has a glue line - but I should also say - its the tightest cleanest most undetectable glue line I have ever seen. So maybe its not.
  5. Oooo You said jbl 2404 - well I got some of those sitting around. Is it a swap in for the K77m ? In a Khorn is there some type of adapter plate - let me also google for it, but you guys are the authority on it, its likely if any info in there, someone here posted it first.
  6. Back in the old days (2001-02) there was a "letter to a crackhead" written which you may still find on the net. Its likely a fake story - just sounds very very true, about how someone's spark plugs on their motorcycle were getting broken off for a crackhead to smoke crack … basically it says - you're a crackhead, why dont you own a crack pipe. Crack is what you do, like I'm an engineer, you don't see me shaking down people on market looking for a calculator do you. I'm an engineer, I own a calculator, you're a crackhead, why don't you own a crackpipe. LOL.
  7. Very definitely. Plastic shopping bags are outlawed, plastic crapp bags are welcome. Find a few of those, assemble a trebuchet and put on a hazmat suit and launch em into your favorite politician's compound and see how they like it.

    ...

Oh yea a little darker than my favorite but really if it turned up at my door cold wet and shivering, I wont be turning it away.
  9. Nice, good you saved me that trouble, and the top hat seems to have edge glued wood on top for sure and likely also the bottom ?
  10. My pictures are failing upload - not sure why. But my question is about wood vs plywood vs MDF. I know Khorn has 54 pieces of wood per speaker. I know the top is made of edge glued wood. I know the visible painted parts of my bass bin are plywood. I'm wondering what is wood vs plywood vs MDF on an 86 and if its changed from then to the new ones. I saw a clip of the designer say mdf when talking about new Khorns recently.
  11. Sometimes the high $$ is sort of the point. This is one of those threads I read every post. I thought the Cornwall, lascalas, belles and Khorns were all plywood. My Khorns have a glued wood top and lots of plywood in the bass bin - not sure if its all plywood - they are from 1986 and sure seems to have tons of plywood and edge glued wood.
  12. There is a reason why places like SFO, NYC etc etc are all full of immigrants like me (till I escaped ~18yrs ago). The options as a visa holder are very limited and every one of those was in NYC, NJ or Bay area CA. That's where they can pay you the "visa approved rate" and still leave you broke. Plenty of places have similar weather and a lot fewer problems, TX, FL. GA, SC (where I am now) etc etc.
  13. No, I got them from a guy in Charlotte who was moving to California.
  14. He he he - geometric center of south Carolina LOL. If you prove something else is the geometric center, I'll deliver to that center free of cost. Really I will. Cut a cardboard plaque like SC and punch holes - naa forget it. Its near Columbia SC.
  15. These are mine - I just dropped off this forum for a couple yrs due to - well Life. columbia.craigslist.org/ele/d/columbia-klipschorns/7126435820.html They have the K-77M tweeter horn. All else is working and new caps put in 8-10 yrs ago. Local pickup in Columbia SC preferred, come listen to it and buy it, they are hooked up.
  16. Nice, M for mud. But yes, thanks for the knowledge and prompt reply. I have a round magnet EV sitting around. Worth a swap and listen ? Those oval lenses I've seen on this forum and ebay - is that worth a shot. I've been very happy with the Khorns, to the extent the few months I tried to sell them, I felt any speaker I tried seemed to either have too low sensitivity (wharfie 90's) or boomy bass (kenwood 77's) or lack bass (yea this was asking for it a 4" woofer in a bookshelf with a 2X3" carver ribbon tweeter). That ribbon tweeter in the spot the K77 is would light it up now that I'm thinking about it - but nothing wrond with the one I have there now, it works well with the mid and the folded horn bass bin.
  17. I know this is an old topic. But I didn't want to open a new post. My 86 Khorns are all original except the XO caps. I have a square tweeter that says K77. Is it a K77M or the K77.
  18. That's usually code for "oh, I am getting 5000 calls on these in an hour, I should raise the $$$. Someone did that to a set of B&W 805's in Atlanta. @ 8-900 they were a steal. Now they're $1500 and sitting for a month. Cool. Srinath.

    Promising test

Recone ???? not my method, in fact I cant recone nothing. Re-foam - yes. BTW I believe that the parts express woofer is the rat shack woofer. They look identical don't they. I'd almost say $10 and throw it in and walk away. In fact I'd be happy to buy your old woofers off you, cos I have a whole slew of the surrounds lying about in my old house with nary a 5.25 left without foam. And I have a 5.25 with wicket VC rub. Thanks. Srinath.

    Promising test

Rubber surround and rubber cement and you can try it a few times easily before it gets too hard to clean. I have a few that I boogered up. Slso I found the yfit nicer with the surround under the cone but experiment away. I have a set of infinitys where the woofer I did under and the mid I did over cos that's the way they fit right. Sure looks funny. Just don't do left one way and the right speaker the other way. LOL. Thanks. Srinath.

    Promising test

I love these little buggers. Metal cabinet and very high end sound. BTW there is an ebay seller that sells rubber surrounds that rea perfect fit for these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-piece-5-5-inch-Repair-woofer-Bass-Speaker-Rubber-Surrounds-120B-/280914687138?hash=item4167d1f4a2:g:mT0AAMXQBg5RtfCx They're called 120B and others also sell those, but the rubber is a wee bit thicker. I glue them and put em in the plastic baffle just snug enough and use a washer on the screwd between the speaker and the baffle to not pinch down too hard on the rubber. Though that probably will not hurt. Rubber surround makes the woofer get lower and make a bit more spl, so it catches up to the tweeter a bit. All around good mod/repair. Thanks. Srinath.
  22. Wowee, do the wood horns sound good ? I have these in the EV version - but its mid is a metal horn and the woofer of course in my version is down firing. Mine is centurion. They also had em front firing. EV Georgians. Thanks. Srinath.
  23. And likely make a lot more power when things let out the magic smoke ... unless of course the amp is capable of taking it. In any case, a graphic eq or a parametric eq that's in some of these amps can also do that same thing with less likelihood of smoking some thing. Cool. Srinath.
  24. Boutique makes tend to drop out of favor fast in people's minds. Take a pioneer sx1250 for example. I know of atleast 30-40 amps that will produce better quality and quantity sound on any speaker you want to try. That's just the ones I know. And I have not heard an outlaw. I would still take a 1250 (and I also am a huge Marantz fan so I'll take one of those as well - bigger the better please) Cool. Srinath.
  25. I dunno I got a kick out of this. Pearl Wilson, Technician's Assistant Welcome! How can I help with your electronics question? You Naaa I actually have the answer for the question the bose 601 guy asked 6 yrs ago and you suggested a parts express woofer. Sorry that was the wrong answer.
