Hi all, Is there any consensus on the best vintage or modern woofer for the Klipschorn (assuming ideal motor boards)? Thanks!

SOLD: Designer La Scalas, birch and cane, CLEAN $1750/obo

Wish I could... but living in Boston means I only have room for my Klipschorns (barely)... -
Check this thread. Looking at the suppliers website they may not be offered any longer, though.

Tube Preamp Opinion with Khorns Please
OtisCampbell replied to JRS94's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I love my Dan Sachs 6SN7 linestage. The remote control and Khozmo attenuation are a plus. I inherited tons of 6SN7 tubes so that definitely influenced my choice but I have zero regrets or concerns about upgrades. -
Location?

I wish they’d just re-run these - plenty of demand!

Thanks for the tip but I'm up to my ears with a pair of Klipschorns..
-
Yes, that is P9000 on the left and P2000 on the right...
-
I'm not 100% positive (not having seen the 70th anniversary in person) but all the details look right.

The P9000 at the above link looks to be the 70th Anniversary cloth. I had a swatch delivered last week and it looks exactly the same on close inspection. (The P9000 is on the left in my pic)

Hey all, With the purchase of my '64 Khorns I was given the original woofers - Jensen P15LLs. They both have coils rubbing it seems. Would these be any improvement over the Crites cast frame woofers? Thanks!

2A3 cannot swap for 807... the only thing you would be able to reuse between the amps is the chassis (and maybe the vintage components if that's your fetish).

I'll take the tweets..

I think there's a couple on the 'bay... for what it's worth...
-
I've traded with and bought from TubeWorld... they seem to be completely legit - if not for this somewhat hokey cryo treatment for tubes being a selling point...
-
No, the wire running to the top of the tube terminated in a ceramic or bakelite cap is connected to the plate of the tube and carries dangerous high voltage..
-
-
Be VERY careful around those top caps - those are the plate connections and at several hundred volts... nice blue glow!

So, those as pictured do look like cane grills (as mine are) but the text of the ad mentions Klipsch cloth #7 which is a textured black grill cloth. If at all possible, I'd like to stay with the original cane but it seems like that will be a major pain to source. Thanks for the link!

I'm sad to say I haven't gotten them up and running yet. "Up" involves five short flights of stairs to my man-cave. I have a buddy coming over sometime this week to help... In the meantime, I'm investigating grill cloth replacement and whether or not to that end should I just go with a replacement midrange unit such as the Volti V-Trac or the Fastrac-K/ALK xover and not bother with a grill cloth repair on the stock motorboard. I'd still like to find some of the old cane grill cloth to replace the single damaged tophat grill but I understand that might be a tough one to fulfill.. I'll probably replace the crossover caps and live with the shabby grill for a little while before going the horn upgrade route.
