  1. I think you'll like the La Scalas. Rebuild the AL x-overs with new caps and take a listen. If the mids are too high, a simple mod can bring them down a couple db. Hang onto the Forte's just in case.
  2. I run a Mac 4100 with my La Scalas - your amp and speakers should work well together. It seems Mac gear and Klipsch get along quite well. The Speakers will not need very much power - 10 watts on La Scalas will drive you out of the room. You'll be fine. The Loudness control will allow you to add in the "missing" bass without a sub. Try it, I think you'll be pleased.
  3. I use the same model - seems to do a good job and I like the my equipment is safe from electric weirdness.
  4. My son and I were having a conversation on cars the other day and I mentioned a Bugeyed Sprite and how I always wanted one. My wife speaks up from the other room "why don't you buy one?". Umm, because I'd never be able to use it. Cool car though. (And best wife ever!) My brother a an MGB back in the day. What a heap.
  5. Hmmm... Beantown is 8th. Oy, that traffic sucks to be stuck in, I can not imagine how bad it is in the top 5.
  6. Just to make things more confusing, class A/B is an entire class on its own. The most common are: A, B, A/B, D, T (which is not a real class per se).
  7. Yeah thanks for the help all. I have run into another minor issue - my wife (who *loves* the La Scalas, and in the past could not have cared less) and son will not let the Mac 4100 back to the office. My wife's suggestion: buy another! See, that is why I love her :-)
  8. None of my manuals specify. I know the 2300 and 2125 are B, as it says right on them or in the manual. EDIT: 2105 is B as well.
  9. Can you show supporting documentation? I have been unable to find any, but maybe my Google-Fu is weak.
  10. OK, I moved the mids to tap 3 with the 15 Ohm resistor across the +/-. Makes the mids much smoother, very happy with this mod.
  11. I am familiar with them, thanks. I have never seen published specs on this amp specifically stating the class. I have a Class A Sony that runs very hot, as does my Haffler which also, I believe, class A. The Mac runs quite cool. Then again, maybe that explains the cost difference between them - Mac makes no compromises to save on cost. Also, I meant class A/B in my above post. EDIT: after some thought/research I still think it is class A/B.
  12. Found the price sheet for 1978: https://web.archive.org/save/_embed/http://images.klipsch.com/Pricelist_780401_Dealer_635164928755816000.pdf $618 each in 1978.
  13. Hmmm... Is the 4100 (with has the MA6200 integrated amp) class A? It runs very cool, so I always thought it was class A/B.
  14. OK, I can not move it down to tap 3, as that 3 is on the opposite side. Do you mean tap 2? EDIT: Oh, I see what you meant, move it down as pictured on the schematic. Got it.
  15. Nope, Klipsh always did each for pricing.
  16. Cool, thanks guys. So, it looks like they were $600 each in 1978. So, that makes them $4470 in todays dollars. Add in my Mac 4100 which was $2000 in 1978 = $7450 in todays dollars you get about $12K in todays market. Holy cow. I suppose that is about the same - new La Scala II at $8K/pr and a new Mac 6700 at $6.5K is a bit more, but there is (IMHO) an artificial premium put on high end audio products today. Interesting.
  17. Thanks. I should use that to see if the old price sheets are there.
  18. Hi all, Do any of you know the price os La Scala in 1978? Archives are not up anymore. Thanks!
  19. I do not have a 105, but am curious - how do you control the volume with it directly connected to an amp?
  20. Ha, my "'hood" is 400 acres of conservation land. I'll still try though.
  21. Thankfully, I live in the middle of nowhere. Closest neighbor is about 600 feet away. I'll try to piss them off anyways, to make PWK proud.
  22. More info. I gutted my 7.1 home theater to a 3.1 a few months ago. Looks like I'll be going to 2.0 now with the La Scalas and the Mac. Holy cow, even movies are great. My Denon AVR-3803 is just a glorified DAC now, but that is a good thing - it has excellent Burr-Brown DACs and allows remote volume control (feeding the Denon Pre-outs to the Mac Aux In).
  23. Well, after playing around with a few amps trying to find one that matches the La Scales well, I finally bit the bullet and dragged my Mac 4100 from the office to home. Holy moly, it is a match made in Heaven! Crank up the loudness knob, set 1500 Hz to 9 o'clock and let them rip! Have them peaking at 10 full watts (that is 90db at 12 feet)! Man, these are efficient. No need for a subwoofer, ported boxes, etc. I am really pleased, except I do not think my Mac will be at the office anymore. That is OK, I have about 6 other receivers to choose from.
  24. OK, I finally have these sorted out. Turn out one of the woofers had an intermittent connection too. They are at 100%. I do think I'll change the mid crossover to tone them down a bit, but in the meantime I just cut 1500Hz down a couple DB with my EQ. YAY!
