    it's bigger - it's wider-it's heavier -

‘From the video it looks like significant changes / improvements to both the high and low frequency sections. Really looking forward to a demo of the new Jubilees.

  2. Also important is the type of music you listen to. I have been happy with 3.5 watts for quiet listening and then ran 600 watts per channel for rock / metal. Most of my listening is at lower volume these days so 30/40 tube watts to 300 solid state watts. Actual power usage typically below 20 watts on a tri-amp 3way system system. And below 10 watts on the Chorus II’s.

  3. When the show started it said “Batman - In Color” Not at my house, dad waited for the B&W TV to die before getting the RCA XL100 color set. Big difference for Batman show. Alfred was my favorite, some episodes he was Batman as Bruce Wayne had to appear at the same time as Batman.

  4. Really enjoying this thread as I am curious about other DAC options. I do need to consider MQA as I use Tidal. Things being what they are I am limited in my ability to purchase the more expensive DACs so looking more for good price/performance. Thanks for all the info.

Which do you have, there are many iFi DACs?

I have an nano iDSD LE for portable use and an nano iOne running my Jubilees. Must admit I like the iOne. Problem is these are the only ones I have heard.

  6. I am not the expert........

if I did this I would use the same “Group” size batteries, either two parallel 12volt batteries or two pair of 6volt batteries with each pair wired in series and then wire the two 6volt pairs in parallel.

My thinking on this is when charging the batteries there will be equal distribution and charge levels and equal load when starting. I used to work on 1980s electric cars, kind of like a golf cart but more batteries and enclosed.

On the other hand you could get a battery tender to keep the battery charged, I use one on my drag car since I don’t drive it much. They are made with solar panels as well.

I upgraded my TubeCube7 with Sovtek EL84M tubes, which have slightly longer plates. Love them.

I have heard the EL84M's are recommended and have many good reviews, certainly less expensive. I worked with the guy I buy tubes from and asked for the most "tube" sound possible - hence the Mullards. So am thinking either are a great choice. Wife did notice the change going from Sino to Mullard and commented without being asked - amazing how much a different brand of tubes can make.

Mine: TubeCube7, 3.5 watt per channel, with 1972 Heresy.

I have a TubeCube 7 as well and installed 1960's Mullard tubes - sounds unbelievably good after the Mullard's put in. Also using Heresy I's and a KSW15. 3D soundstage and wonderful from cymbal to mid-bass. Recently replaced with a McIntosh MC240 which I do like better.

Not necessarily, Bag End did some interesting stuff with their 18" ELF sub series back in the day.  I helped install 4 dual 18" cabinets in a dance club (total of 8 18" woofers in about a 16,000sqft area) with the ELF processor and powered by 4 Crown Macrotech 2400's and holy cow!  After we had a decent break in period we went back to reset the levels and played around to see just how much it could do, and it was to the point where it hit so hard it made you feel not quite right!   The low end was just crazy clean and surprisingly flat due to the ELF processor.  I haven't followed what they are doing with this lately, but the idea was a step in the right direction.

Seems like with all that hardware including processor and amplifiers needed for this solution you could use 2 1802 subwoofers and 2 Macrotech 2400’s and have better sound in a the same or smaller package that requires less power to run.

  10. @babadono - sorry for the late reply. Yes my 1502 is black and looks the same as my jubilees. My wife chose the color and did not want any of it in walnut. I sit and listen with all this stuff aimed at my chair, also listen with the room pretty dark. When you close your eyes the physical soundstage disappears and seems so much deeper and wider.

On the question of prototypes and production - I heard the 1502 prototypes and loved the sound especially on bass guitars and stand up bass. I asked @Chief bonehead about getting one for almost two years, glad he did not disown me. My understanding is that a limited run of 10 were made and I have one of those. Got to meet the gentleman that built them at the 2019 Pilgrimage, very cool experience. Also told Roy the Jubilees should come standard with a 1502. A most amazing setup.

Believe it or not most of my listening is at lower volumes and the 1502 really shines. Would also admit that I do crank it up sometimes and really feel the bass impacting my chair and body. Clean and clear. I was asked why the 1502 instead of an 1802, simple answer, I did not have to tear out a door frame to get the 1502 into the house - wife did draw the line there.

  11. @Chris A I have been following your MEH adventures on the forum with great interest. I am focused on finishing my McIntosh vacuum tube amp collecting which will be complete by Christmas so have not contacted you about this yet. Also need to find a place to retire in the next couple of years - with a large listening room of course. Also must admit I don’t watch many movies these days as am enjoying stereo again. Since I have done considerable work with PA systems I am interested in the surround aspect of recorded audio - still have my Yamaha DSP-1.

Back on subject - anything that can be done to produce a better sounding subwoofer is a good idea. A Heritage version seems like a great idea as well.

  12. This may sound a little crazy but the longer I have had it the less prominent it gets. Plus my wife is fairly tolerant of my audio habit. I am excited to hear more about the diamond jubilees to see what is different - I am no longer searching for a better speakers system - mine is in a 2.1 setup for audio only. I do have a reference series home theater setup for video.
