  1. help is great sir but it's not something that can be replicated. if you were able to get one shipped at one point you were very lucky.
  2. today? the code doesn't even get released until tonight around 130am pst? that's not even possible. the sub is able to be bought today but not the 82s if you were able to checkout with the sub i would be really surprised if it ships. maybe some slip though the cracks but they aren't suppose to. free shipping exists at full price but not promo. they would almost certainly be losing money shipping at this price on either item
  3. will's question about budget is the real piece of information needed for sound advice {pun intended} out of your list it would be the marantz 6006 the thing is, that pm6006 is 699 and a used hk990 is 850ish http://www.stereophile.com/content/harman-kardon-hk-990-integrated-amplifier-page-2#rezgPi4uPRjYSQfz.97 link if you have not heard of these. basically you get all the modern bells and whistles with a really high end amplifier section. sonically it's not even on the same planet as what you're considering and it's not much more money. you also will have better resale if you want to get off it in a year or two. the drawback is you have to hunt for one on the used market i did not like the yamaha as301 when i had the chance to play with one for a week. it had no depth what so ever. another thought would be a used marantz sr5005+ receiver. if you just need the optical and don't need 4k or the most modern av gear the sr5005 and newer marantz receivers really aren't bad. they sound better than that yamaha as301 and audessey can be disabled in lue of the 7band eq. i sold an sr5006 in good shape last year for 200 dollars locally.
  4. there has never been shipping on the rf82ii @199 or 229 as far as i know. all have been marked in store and the shipping option goes away at checkout even if it initially allows you to.
  5. if you want a modern integrated at reasonable money the single best one i have heard is the harman hk990. they were like $2000 new in 2011 and often sell for 800-1000 used today. compared to what's coming out of marantz and other competitors today it's just on another level at this price point. do some research on the hk990. it was kind of a signing off for harman kardon and the last true piece of hi fi gear they have made. it's a really really nice modern integrated
  6. room acoustics are what i noticed changing the sound the most. i really didn't like them on hardwood or tile. carpet yes, may be able to get by with some wood in larger rooms. not a good digital speaker but an excellent analog one. dynaco st70 is a great value amp if you can find a clean one. certainly not going to lose anything when you go to sell it if you get in one at the right price. if you want to get loud there are plenty of solid state options this is a completed ebay auction on an st70 . it's really not much more than you're looking to spend and rather than going for tube like sound you would have a proven design that's actually tube http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Dynaco-ST70-Tube-Stereo-Amplifier-SERVICED-/292031965499?hash=item43fe76293b%3Ag%3ANVQAAOSwOgdYqGeW&nma=true&si=iYcN%2FNajETLVqBhfShqUbUfE53M%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  7. do you have a pre amp or are you looking at receivers or integrated ? the cats meow under $1000 used for a 2ch integrated amp is probably the harman kardon HK990. they are fairly new, sound great and hold their value. this was the last piece of high quality ever produced by harman. it sounds amazing older seperates can also be had inexpensive. i paid $250 for an adcom gfp 555ii pre amp and 5300 power amplifier not long ago for a spare room
  8. the $134 deal on the rc62ii was really hard to get unless you live in CA. i looked the couple times they were on sale and many stores were listed as unavailable. kind of hope the rf82ii goes on sale again before stock is exhausted. i wouldn't mind trying a pair for that $400-460 price they sell at
  9. this will create overlap in one of the worst places possible. the 1khz zone. you can experiment but it can also get costly. if you're using a simple 6db/oct slope and you inspect your coil to see what value it is you can play around a bit until you find the sound your after. a 1.25mh coil would give you roughly 1000hz on an 8ohm driver. you can use the calculator here for text book designs. you may experiment with crossing the woofer at 1000 and the mid horn at 1100-1200-1300 etc until you find your sound. https://www.diyaudioandvideo.com/Calculator/SpeakerCrossover/ http://meniscusaudio.com/ is my favorite place to buy crossover parts, parts express is also another but they won't ship small parts first class like meniscus will crossover slopes also sound different so simple 6db slopes not only are cheap, they can sound softer and less precise than 12-18-24db oct which as the name implies means you're down that many db in one octave of sound. they are also more simple and less expensive to create. the only place 6db slopes can get dicey is on tweeters. if you have a tweeter with an FS of 1000hz that likes to be crossed at say 2500hz and you use a 6db slope it's going to be 6db down at 1250hz but that's still some wattage at a frequency it can not take much power at. steeper slopes can really insulate it as well as cut off trouble ranges in certain drivers.
  10. LOL that is just crazy ! so far i have two very serious guys from that ad. the really crazy party is how happy they both were that i recapped them. i mean....is soldering in new caps really a huge selling point? it was very easy to do and cost me about $20. it just made me laugh they both mentioned having vintage speakers and sending them out for this service. got me. maybe they didn't have a father who taught them how to solder properly when they were a kid like i did
  11. horror stories like this are what made me figure i'd be better off selling for a few dollars less local in cash than risking a higher priced sale + shipping + hunting boxes + risk all for maybe 50-100 more i don't mind shipping light bookshelf speakers but these things are tanks. ideally they would go on a pallet strapped down but that would be $$
  12. that was my worry. i would ideally want heresy iii boxes from a retailer with hard foam for packing. bubble wrap + 50lbs with sharp edges is risky so far 3 emails, if i'm getting that on day one i doubt i will have them at the end of next week
  13. thanks guys ! put them on CL as well. two emails already. one guy says he wants them, another gets paid next week. sounds like i priced them fairly which is what i was going for. hopefully i get a serious one before long thanks for the feedback guys ! also LOLd at the oregon part, probably already be gone in arkansas
  14. clean pair of klipsch heresy ii's, these happen to be a limited edition run of the signature editions which were sold at military PX stores between 1986 and roughly 1988. i purchased these from the original owner who picked them up while stationed in germany in 1988. all drivers and horns are original. crossovers have been recapped with french made solen poly caps on the horns and a bennic electrolytic for the woofer due to age. cabinets are a solid 8 on the 10 scale. minor imperfections but no substantial damage. a few corner nicks and pen tip size marks here and there. for being 30 years old they are better than most but not gem mint. one of the paper serial number labels is also missing on the rear but intact on the other. drivers all perform with no issues, no rattles or weird sounds at high SPL driving. one neat thing about the heresy ii that you can not do with a heresy i is the factory update to heresy iii. you can buy the heresy iii kits from klipsch for 290 each and or try the crites titanium horn diaphrams with the model 2 horns if you want more sizzle in the highs. customization options are definitely there. the really neat thing about going 3 is you can sell the existing woofers and horns to pay for the majority of the upgrade. woofers alone are fetching 250pr on ebay and the horns 100pr each which is 450 before fees of your upgrade money if you decide to go that route. and or just keep them 100% heritage as they are now and match with a subwoofer and warm sounding amplifier for many more years of enjoymentthese in similar condition have been closing 650-700 on ebay + shipping for the past 180 days. i'm pricing them already at a good deal as i don't want to hunt down boxes for shipping nor take the damage risk if i don't have to. fingers crossed someone local to the area wants them. there is a big vintage scene around portland, orei have a feeling these will attract a very specific type of buyer who knows what he or possibly she wants. shoot me a PM with a phone number and a good time to call and i will give you a ring when i'm free and we can chat. priced at $500pr more pics by email are not a problem
  15. pics ! love to see em. i also have a set i'm considering the sale of in oregon but prices are kind of all over. love to see your cabinet condition and have you changed out the caps yet?
  16. i really didnt like the x2300 when i had one for a week to play with. just to get it out in the open i don't like audyssey for tonal balance unless it's pro which i can adjust. it's too midrange forward for me and graphic eq gets used for tonal while audyssey does the room cal. disclaimer. my ideal sound is not flat. it's more b&w or klipschy in larger rooms. slightly hot 20-80hz flat below 1k, a drop of a couple db in 1-3khz and ramping up above 10khz slightly to 20. audyssey bumps 1-2khz up which drives me bonkers. does not sound live or life like. problem 2 is many speakers have the worst time here in accurate reproduction now on to my actual point. the x2300 did not do a good job with the 1-3khz range. it's less noticeable with movies but it produces a shrilly sound with some voices and some tones that i do not like. at the same time i tried the yamaha a750 and marantz 5011. in order i would buy marantz, yamaha , den....no save my money. with denon the eq only made bad sounds quieter. yamaha had no headroom and still not the best sound reproduction but at least it did not irritate me, marantz was by far the best and sounded similar to an lower cost actual amplifier there is a very large tonal difference between marantz and denon even though they look similar on paper. people have said the x3300 is better sounding and is actually on sale today at frys for 499 with promo code. i have not heard it or played with it so i really don't know for sure. what i do know is the yamaha didn't bother me as much as the denon did. speakers used in my tests were energy cf50/cc10/cb10s and klipsch fr82ii/rc62ii/ energy cb10 rear combos with both the klipsch and the energy setups the denon had the worst tonal balance and midrange reproduction.
  17. i think audio in general is moving heavily to a home theater model and has been for some time. there isn't a lot of home audio gear from any brand that seems to be targeted at 2.0 stereo or 2.1 anymore. even more interesting is many people seem to be more concerned with effects than actual sound quality. most HT receivers under $900 i have heard sound just terrible yet they sell for a variety of reasons. maybe they don't want to pay marantz and up prices or maybe the avg person doesn't care? i have never heard the palladium line but i have heard the rf7ii, it's the closest speaker i have heard, at least from klipsch that has the mix of old and new. the horn is considerably better than what's in my heresy iis and the pair of 10s also handily out performs the single 12. i think it would be neat to try and rf7 type horn in a cornwall setup i just don't know if it would sell. like you say, the decisions at klipsch are above our head. i know what i like but i'm probably not the best guy to make corporate guesses
  18. need accurate T/S parameters to model a car sub for home use. some work, some really don't the JL 10w3v3 actually sounds amazing in home placed in 2cu/ft with a 3x12 port. you can download a basic box calculator like winisd online if you don't know anyone with a copy of leap. the raw driver market is honestly worse now than it has been in some time. a lot of choices no longer exist. in general, if you have the space. larger is better. your budget also plays a part.. i have a pair of heresy ii's in a 14x14 room with a peerless xxls vented in 3cu/ft in the corner that works fairly well. little too rumbly for the tight snap of the heresy though. a pair of sealed 12s or 15s would probably be the ticket.
  19. you could but that would be like putting a modern LSx engine in a 69 camaro. it's better from a mechanical perspective but it isn't what the car was designed to be the heritage speakers to me represent time, i have a pair of factory correct heresy ii's in my back room with nothing updated besides the caps. they aren't the best sounding speakers i own but they remind me of when i was a late child to early teen and one of my friends had a pair that we use to crank on
  20. the RP series are the new equivalent and tamed down a bit don't go for the spray painted icons, they are terrible the rb61 has been on clearance lately and is a good buy. if you don't get that look to the rp 150m or 160m as for your other comment about the rb61s you bought, yes, horns change their sound dramatically depending on the room. large open areas tend to be best. small tile or hardwood floor rooms with little in them the worst. nearfield is also not something i would do with a horn. if it's a hardwood small area and or nearfield you might like the b&w 685 or martin logan motion 15 which is also sold as an lx16? the amp you drive them with also has a big impact. i like klipsch in my living room, however, i have a pair of b&w 602s3's {most amazing $500 bookshelf i have ever heard} at my desk and energies {another klipsch brand} in my bedroom
  21. i'm thinking more along the lines of what to paypal you? 110 paypal after fees is what? 105ish? would this get the deal done? i noticed this community seems very chummy, i like that. i grew up next to a guy who did engineering work for klipsch and was the lead at phoenix gold. glenn phillips. he's who started my life of audio addiction. i stumbled across this forum looking at how people were restoring crossovers and horns in heresy ii's i'm bidbuytry on ebay, racebum most everywhere else on the net.
  22. you have a great post history and seem well respected from what i can tell on here. anything wrong with it? what's your shipped price to 97124? ps. are forum avatar uploads disabled until you hit a certain post count or is it time locked?
