  1. The Record Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Cool shop. They often have live bands playing while you flip through records.

The Tannoys are on a half wall at the back of the store. They are impressive.

  2. It's much better than prosciutto, a completely different flavor.  The pigs are fed on acorns and grain, which gives it a deep earthy flavor.  Awesome stuff.

It is awesome stuff. I had 2 lbs of the best available seized at the border when I was coming home from Spain a few years back. Never been so mad in my life. Enjoy

=== while although a 500 point dip or “correction” (and that’s not near enough to define a correction) a 500 point drop in a market fluctuating between 25000-26000 is not a huge deal in the big picture. Chill —

  4. I use the Audioengine D2 streamer. I have had no issues with drop out. It doesn’t use your wifi. It runs an independent signal. Sound quality is top notch. The DAC is better than my Marantz amp. Very happy with the product. I assume that all of their products are made to the same quality level. Their powered speakers are highly rated.

How many times have we heard or said that phrase. He, she, they nailed the whatever out of that song. Everybody who sings or plays, listens or learns, wants that magic moment where skill and passion combine into an emotional roller coaster that bares the emotions and reveals the glorious essence of the commonality of humanity.

We here spend gobs of money and rashers of time just to garner a hint of that greatness. Sometimes we are rewarded and sometimes we wonder why we chased that wisp of fog upon the wind.  Sometimes we reflect and recall how a song on the radio, a strolling whistler on a summers day, a brief snaatch of song caught upon the wind from a passing car or an open window, can rouse that feeling.

Sometimes it can happen while flipping through the channels, a  bored search through the banal offerings that comprise most of that medium.

So by happenstance I come across a PBS fundraiser, a concert in tribute to the fallen bard, Leonard Cohen, performed on the anniversary of his death.

Now, I'm a big fan , I'm enjoying it but hardly wowed, until...

KD Lang performs her version of "Hallelujah"

I know she has sung this song many times, but I'm absolutely floored by her rendition this evening. Every note,  to me anyways, is an unbridled masterpiece.  When she reaches deep her emotion scales the heights, not an over-emoted blast of volume to brag about her range, but in service to the song and the emotion it should render.

It's a few days later, now, and I still get wound up a bit thinking about.  Indeed she did.

    She nailed it!

She sang it at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics and I was floored. Unbelievable rendition.

  6. The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon are on another level in writing and composition. Breakfast in America is incredible as is Crime of the Century. One I listen to end to end, over and over again is Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours.

  7. Habitat for Humanity ReStore. $50 each, approximately $9 sq. ft.

At this point, I am leaning toward cutting to make tops for 5 speakers and 2 equipment racks. This will add approximately 27 pounds of mass. Going this route I would probably use something like Herbies grungebustor pads for a protection layer between granite tops and wood tops. I always wanted glass tops, and this would be an even cooler upgrade than that.

As these slabs are 3/4" (2cm), I have determined the rack design I am going with just will not allow for this granite to be used as shelving without needing to add a sub shelf layer to support the granite layer. So my shelving will instead be a 1 3/4" wood material that I have in great abundance here, which I need to find uses for to consume it all anyway. Speaker platforms my come at a later date, even though that would have most likely given the biggest change(better or worse), to the audio signature of the room.

P.S. I have a laminate floor, and am not going spike it. I could spike a platform though. I should probably move this to a new thread now. Thank you.

If you are looking for isolation feet try Sorbothane Hemispheres in Duro 50 or 30. I wouldn’t use anything else.
  8. I use Dayton Audio spikes under my speakers and Sorbothane hemispheres under everything else. Works great. Just have to have the correct load factor on the Sorbothane.

    Dear Customers,

With the advent and rapid growth of the new automobile industry, demand for our fine products has plummeted below the profitable threshold, and we are sad to announce we will discontinue the manufacture of all models of the Flegglehouser and Sons buggy whips immediately.  Remaing stocks of finely crafted buggy whips can be found at your local general store.

    Sincerely,

    Mortimer Flegglehouser

    Really

  10. Well alright. After a good run of King Crimson I can say that I will always be a 21st Century Schizoid Fan!! Love what they do. There is a time and a place for that killer style. At the end of the day the mighty Zep reigns supreme!!!!

    In my humble opinion....
