  1. Hi, I am looking for some advice on this issue that I recently noticed. I am getting a reduced amount of sound from the left channel of my system. I think that it is something new. When I turn the balance knob on my amp to the right, I get the full sound of the recording. When I turn it to the left, I get what I would describe as muted or reduced sound, it is like some of the music is missing. It lacks all depth and fullness. I have only tried it with a digital music source. I swapped the speakers and it didn't change so it isn't the speakers. I swapped the cables and there was no difference so it isn't the cables (also checked polarity). My only thought is that it could be the left binding posts on the amp but the amp is less than a year old so it is unlikely. I will try the B posts to see if it makes a difference. Other than that, I am out of ideas. Is it possible that the music is created play that way? I would think that I would get full sound through each speaker by turning the balance knob fully either way. Any thoughts? Thanks
  2. The New York Times said it best; “The place of honor that Mr. Downie occupies in Canada’s national imagination has no parallel in the United States. Imagine Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Michael Stipe combined into one sensitive, oblique poet-philosopher, and you’re getting close.” I would say close but not very close. The documentary “Long Time Running” will be on utube soon. It was on national tv tonight and if you are a music fan of any genre it is not to be missed. Not just about the music but a touching view of a band coming to an end.
  3. Just to give everyone an idea of how important this band is here, they had a moment of silence in our parliament for Gord today. The Prime Minister gave a tearful speech on the influence that he had on the country. The main rock station in Ottawa is calling themselves Gord FM and they are playing nothing but The Tragically Hip songs until Monday. It’s not too often a major radio station in a city of 1 million people will play one band, 24 hours a day, for 4 days. Classy move Chez 106.1. Yes, the avatar that I have been using on this forum for awhile now is Gord Downie at his best. RIP my friend.
  4. All of Canada weeps today for the loss of a rock legend and cultural icon. Gord Downie, the lead singer of The Tragically Hip, the lead singer of Canada, passed away last night. Some may not be familiar with their music, the band is as big as it gets here. Only other Canadian's will understand what I am saying. There will be many campfires across the country tonight with The Hip providing the soundtrack. Rest in Fiddler's Green Gord, you earned it.

  6. It is my understanding that the Apple Express will down sample all formats to 16/44 as that is the maximum resolution that it will stream. I was using an Apple TV box to stream via AirPlay and this was the case. I spent a lot of time researching this. I bought an Audioengine D2 streamer which streams all music at 24/96 on a dedicated wifi network. The sound is outstanding and the link is very reliable.

    RIP Tom Petty

Another legend has left us. RIP Tom. You touched us all.
  8. Thank you gentlemen. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
  9. Thank you DizRotus. Much appreciated. It is only occasions like this that we reflect on what is really important in life. I’m sure that many of us have found medicine in our music. I know I have.
  10. I lost my best friend yesterday. He had all of the opportunities in life and missed nothing. Still difficult to deal with. I love music’s ability to console and educate. I take solice in the poems of the greats. RIP my friend.

    What I Got Today!

I got an Audioengine D2 wireless streamer today. Just set it up. Very easy. Sounds great out of the box. Instructions say that there is a 40 hour break-in period so I have some listening to do. It streams real 24/96khz files on a separate dedicated network so it doesn't have to run on your home wifi with everything else. I have had no drop outs. I was using an Apple TV box but airplay down samples to 16/44khz and the signal wasn't very stable. This solves my problem of having my stereo system in ne room and my computer in another. It wasn't feasible to run a cable between the rooms. So so far so good. I'm happy and would recommend the product. Couldn't be easier to use.

$100 each. Custom woodwork is not cheap but I am getting a furniture grade item. Looks better than a milk crate.

    What I Got Today!

A friend of mine is a woodworker and he is making me two record boxes. Pretty sweet.
  16. Thanks. Nice units. Without having a sender unit hard wired to the computer, how is the hi-res file sent to the receiver unit? Is it via wifi or Airplay? I didn't think that those methods could send hi-res files over the air. I can't use the ethernet connection due to the location of my computer. Aries Input RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Dual-Band WiFi connection USB 2.0 High-Speed for external disk
  17. The two units that I mentioned will stream 96/24 wirelessly on a independent signal that is separate from your home wifi. I would prefer 192/24 or better but it doesn't seem to be available.
  18. Hi, Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with point-to-point hi-res music streamers like the Audioengine D2 24-bit wireless DAC or the NAD DAC 2 wireless USB digital to analogue converter? I am trying to find a way to play 24 bit hi-res files from my Mac (older) that is in a separate room than my stereo system. I am currently streaming via Airplay to an Apple TV box which is plugged into the optical input on my 2-channel amp. Airplay downgrades the signal to 44/16 so it isn't truly hi-res. Thanks
  19. You clearly have a passion for playing guitar. Have you ever thought of teaching someone to play? I bet there are adults or kids in your area that would love to learn. Teaching and passing on knowledge is an incredible gift. Also allows you to meet new people in a new city.
  20. When I am in a negative mindset I say to myself "what is one thing I can do to improve this situation?" It is not about perfection or an immediate solution. It is about improvement. Relentless improvement in any form. Give yourself credit for each improvement no matter how small it my seem at the time. Great buildings were built one brick at a time. Remember that you are always one decision away from a different life. You see how your recent move changed your life. Your next decision could be your best and maybe only possible because of where you are now. Keep on rock'in in a free world.......NY

  22. I agree. I am fairly new to this hobby (my wife already says I'm nuts) and it is clear to me that the quality (my definition of quality) is a combination of the physical source of the music (digital, tape, vinyl, etc) and the way that the music was mastered/engineered. I have every source on hand except reel to reel and can say without a doubt that the same song can sound better or worse on the same media (ie vinyl, digital) as it can on different types of media. Some music sounded so bad on my system that I was looking for a hardware upgrade to only find out that the same song on a different release sounded awesome so clearly it isn't the hardware. Along that line, does anyone have an opinion on HD Tracks? Not the website but the so called "audiophile" digital files. I recently bought Fleetwood Mac's Rumours (Super Deluxe) in AIFF at 96kHz 24 bit. I listened to it back to back with the normal MP3 from iTunes and the difference is night and day. Much greater range and stronger bass. I also bought IRobot in 192kHz 24 bit and the difference is not as great vs the record (naturally better than mp3 IMO). I am not going to repurchase my entire music library but for those special albums I am wondering if it is worth it?

Yes, I believe so. They were planning on stealing the money to buy the coke and then replace it when the coke was sold. The guy came home unexpectedly and was killed in the fight. Now the kingpin is bent on finding who was behind this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
