    Looking for a K-48 or K-48-E Woofer

    I prefer not to recone. I know that can be done, but in my experience, this can be good and can be bad. It is who you get, their interpretation of the sound - lot of variables. I get that it is cheaper, but my preference is to stay authentic and match the fellow speaker. Since I repaired it, it sounds just fine, so I bought myself time and don't have to rush for a solution. Now if I can find the REAL OEM WOOFER, then I can get a perfect match. Again, I am not in a rush - just want to do it right.  Thanks so much for taking time to get back to me. Regards, Mike

    I have done that. They could be more helpful than they are. They just want you to buy what they have listed on a computer screen, which may work, but it is not the exact thing. Probably safer if I find the real replacement from a used one.  Thanks, Mike

    Thanks for the reply, Emile, but this is a K-48-KP - not an exact match. I had checked it out before. Might work, but I am trying and hoping to find the actual thing - exact match if I can, as there are variances between manufacturers. The one I want comes up from time to time (K-48), and I repaired mine with glue and it sounds great for now. That bought me time and so I can be selective to find the real OEM one.

     

    By the way, since you are a forum veteran. I thought I had things set up to GET NOTIFIED by email, whenever there is a response to one of my posts, but it isn't happening. I can't seem to find the setting in my preferences to make this happen. Can you help me, as I am new to this particular forum? Please excuse the bother.

    Chorus I HELP needed

    I would like to buy a used K-48 (one with no lettering after it, so it mirrors what I have now) - Just one, please. Looking on eBay and Craigslist, of course, but if anyone has a used speaker or damaged pair of Chorus I speakers, that might be the source. Please advise, and please keep on the lookout. Consider this a standing order / request.

    Thanks for everyone's help. I am going to do the glue repair very carefully first, and stay on the lookout for the real OEM replacement. I want to keep these and use them - not for sale.     I need one woofer for my Chorus I speakers, as the cone is torn. It is a pro grade speaker - 400 watt power, 4 ohms, and is 15" in diameter. I do not want a partial substitute - looking for the exact match - OEM speaker, please.     Running into obstacles trying to determine some information to handle my Chorus I vintage speakers. These were made back in 1988. I just discovered a tear in the woofer cone of one of them. I have no idea how this could even happen. Does age and just playing them somewhat loud (not excessive) cause this? I would appreciate an opinion on likely cause....

    At any rate, I need to replace the woofer, and I have spoken to people at Klipsch who have no technical information or specifications to help me out. They tell me that the K-48-E is the woofer that was designated to go in those, although I have not extracted the speaker yet to confirm that. They tell me the K-48-EP is the replacement for that, but they can't tell me if it is an exact replacement, is a cheaper alternative, or if it is different in some way. That is what they have now, but before leaping I would like to know in detail, specification & performance comparisons between the two.

    The second part of this is will there be enough difference in the two that I should buy two (2) of these and replace the one in the fellow speaker at the same time?

    Any other suggestions that you know, historically speaking, would go into that one speaker?

     

    Also have heard patching the defect with silicone would buy time until a replacement can be found. Not sure the best approach. Someone may have a replacement woofer or would know how to solve my problem, and I would be most appreciative, so I can make an informed and accurate decision..

    I would appreciate any help on my questions.

    This is what I am faced with and need enough detailed technical information, plus your experience about these, so I can make an informed and accurate decision.

    A young person just saying, "THIS SHOULD WORK" isn't convincing an old audiophile that this is correct or not.

    I would appreciate your opinion on my questions.

    Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX Static

    I have the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX model computer speakers - 2 desktop speakers and a large subwoofer. The sound quality is decent, but static (NOT HUM), just ambient static in the background, makes these highly annoying. Windows settings do not eliminate this, and the level of static increases or decreases with the hardware or software volume controls. Any suggestions and remedies would be most helpful.
