Question: would the time required to properly perform as a TA (at $15.00 per hour) pad his resume for grad school application

Just my 2 cents. I graduated from The University of North Florida  BBA 3.79

One of my best friends continued his academic studies and is a tenured professor at Notre Dame. Based on his shared knowledge with me, the further you advance in academia the more important it is to embrace associations with influential contacts that can help you in your journey. Physics professors are right now “rock stars” on campus. Bottom line, it’s only a semester, he will make a little money and gain knowledge on a fascinating discipline.

  3. Nobeoka City, Japan (October 29, 2020)—In the wake of a massive three-day fire at the Nobeoka City factory of semiconductor producer Asahi Kasei Microsystems (AKM), pro-audio manufacturers around the globe are now facing anticipated shortages of crucial DAC and ADC chips used in their products. “It’s probably the most disruptive event in my 40 years of audio industry experience,” said John La Grou, CEO of Millennia Media. “Devastating is not too strong a word. Can 2020 get any worse?”

    .Well.....call me baffled or perplexed.

The BASE unit of the assembly doesn't have any SN as best I can tell (didn't lift up to look on bottom nor see if it's under any of the mounted hardware).  That said, the horn itself had a SN number (sticker) but nothing that I could find on the base.

I have a pair of 1st generation 402’s and the serial #’s were on the horns as well

    Deep cleaning or dusting?

I use paint brushes and canned air for dusting.

For deep cleaning, where I'm disassembling, I'll use Isopropyl (75% or higher), old toothbrushes, rags, and paint brushes.

If I want to polish, I'll use synthetic liquid wax on a rag, apply and buff out with dry rag, this works for everything from PCB boards, to enclosures, to the tubes themselves, just be careful not to rub off the lettering, and make sure everything dries completely.

Thank You This is the exact information I was looking for !

  6. I thought that the reveal of “your first album purchased” would be the big surprise, but after reading the responses, for me the “album itself” is not nearly as enjoyable as the wonderful stories that followed.
My first album purchased was The Jimi Hendrix Experience but my first record purchase was a 45 rpm Jimi Hendrix:

All Around the Watchtower / Burning of the Midnight Lamp. I grew up on a small farm and   Dad paid $2.50 to mow the 1 acre plot the house set on. The animals ate the rest. The grass was Bahia so I mowed every Saturday.

Was at a variety store called J M Fields with my Mom. She would walk through the store shopping and I was drawn to the isle with all the albums. Enjoyed looking at all the album covers. I listened to a radio station WAPE “The Big Ape” and had heard Jimi Hendrix. At the time the 45 rpm price was closer to what I was willing to spend. I lost count of how many times I listened to that 45, but next time I went to J M Fields I went straight to the Isle with albums and picked up Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Xilica  ?  or another brand -

A different set up using Marchand for crossovers and Auralic Lightning DS for EQing.

Hoping future software upgrades will include Frequency response, phase & time alignment.

I do like the dbx 360 venu that jwc has used.

Trying a new coffee this week. How does everyone store bulk coffee? I assume a dark airtight container. Any recommendations? I also assume it may be better to store whole beans and grind as needed, still need to get a grinder. But for now I had to grind the whole bag at the store.6e0652f3f1d1ae937db4e7bfc60b7b9e.jpg

I buy whole bean, put it in the freezer and grind it fresh for each cup.

The 1629 and 6U5 are not rectifiers.  They are “tuning eyes.”  Their filament voltages are not the same, and require different sockets.

    Thanks Maynard

Read some more and find that the tube is used as a visual voltage indicator.

  10. Since rectifier was brought.... I have Cary 805C monoblocks that have one rectifier in each amp. Cary states as 1629/6U5. Researched and find that the 1629 and 6U5 is the same “if I am understanding it correctly”. One of the amps has the rectifier going out. Should I replace both ?  They are both the same age.

    Hi folks

I don't ask much or often

Could y'all say a prayer for my father-in-law?

    He's 80 and had a stroke today.

    His name is Albert .

    thanks

    Hello Bill

Just a follow up. Me and “The Big Guy” had a conversation in regards to Albert and this is how it went :

I started off saying that I didn’t know Albert or yourself but that didn’t really matter. What did matter was Albert was currently having an issue that I was asking that He look into. I started with asking that He give Albert love & understanding.... He stopped me right there and just smiled, (that Big O’l God Smile) which means “thank you for caring and I hear you, I am very fond of Albert and the family, I’ve got this”
