  1. It is not bogus. The originator of this thread provided link to similar picture. Maybe the ones you saw in Best Buy are lower-end R-14SAs.
  2. This is one of my biggest complaints about the Klipsch Atmos options. The Atmos options are an after-thought even after two generations. They have poor system design integration with the other speakers in the family. The RP-140SA and RP-500SA are too big for the RP-150M/RP-500M and too big for the RP-160M/600M. They can fit on top of the RP-250F, RP-260F, and RP-280F but they are not an exact fit for any of them. I use RP-140SA on top of RP-280F and another set of RP-140SA on top of RP-250F and they look out-of-place and mismatched on both sets of tower speakers. Sometimes I wish I never started with Klipsch because it is so poor compared with other vendors. If you want to have a 5.2.4 system and use RP-502S bipolar surrounds then you have no means to place Klipsch Atmos modules on top of those surround speakers. If you want to use bookshelf speakers as you back or surround speakers then you have no Atmos module options from Klipsch that fit on top of their RP line bookshelf speakers. I wish Klipsch would solve these problems and offer more solutions to allow for proper system design and aesthetic design. You can see how the RP-500SA look on top of the RP-600M speakers in this YouTube video. At least the four feet can actually make contact with the top-side of the 600M enclosure. 3. 1. After a week of pink noise, brown noise, and music break-in (3-4 hours per day), I re-calibrated using Audyssey. Speakers were placed in same location/orientation as previous direct/0-degree position vs Audyssey microphone. The speakers calibrated to the same 110Hz crossover. Plots attached at end. 2. It is interesting that that the previous generation RS-42II surrounds speakers have the identical frequency specs yet the RS-42 II was a ported speaker. When I was shopping for surrounds, the store had both RP-240S and RS-42II's in their setup room so I was able to compare both at the same time. The RS-42II had an obviously audible lower frequency range. I ended up buying the RP-240S since the RP-240S specs of 62Hz implied an 80Hz crossover should be easily attainable and all my other speakers were RP line. Specs: RP-240S: FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 62-25kHz +/- 3dB SENSITIVITY: 93dB @ 2.83V / 1m POWER HANDLING (CONT/PEAK): 75W/300W CROSSOVER FREQUENCY: 1500Hz HIGH FREQUENCY DRIVER: Dual 1" Titanium LTS Tweeters with Hybrid Tractrix Horns LOW FREQUENCY DRIVER: Dual 4" Cerametallic Cone Woofers ENCLOSURE TYPE: Sealed HEIGHT 11.61” (29.5 cm) WIDTH 10.38” (26.4 cm) DEPTH 6.93” (17.6 cm) WEIGHT 13.2 lb (5.99 kg) RS-42II: Frequency Response: 62Hz-24KHz ± 3dB Sensitivity: 93dB @ 2.83V / 1m Power Handling: 75W RMS / 300W Peak High Frequency Crossover: 1700Hz High Frequency Drivers: Dual 1” (2.54cm) Titanium diaphragm compression drivers mated to 90° x 60° square Tractrix® Horns Low Frequency Drivers: Dual 4” (10.2cm) Cerametallic™ cone woofers Enclosure Type: Bass-reflex via dual side-firing ports Height 10” (25.4cm) Width 12.5” (31.7cm) Depth 7.1” (18cm) Weight 11.9lbs (5.4kg) 3. Sound & Vision's measurements of the larger RP-250S showed –6dB point is at 90 Hz, so how the smaller RP-240S could ever reach 62 Hz +/- 3dB is puzzling. "The RP-250S’s three-face averaged response measures +4.46/–3.36 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 106 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 90 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 3.98 ohms at 218 Hz and a phase angle of –51.81° at 120 Hz." https://www.soundandvision.com/content/klipsch-reference-premiere-rp-150m-speaker-system-review-test-bench 4. I need to clear some space to do an on wide-wall and corner-wall test/calibration although based on all data so far I highly doubt these speakers are capable of +/-3 dB at 62 Hz in any situation. If Klipsch has any data they can provide to prove the performance of these speakers in a variety of topologies, I would need to see that to believe these are correct frequency specs. 5. Audyssey results for item 1 (after speaker break-in):
  4. Yes I will run proper white noise and pink noise break-in on these speakers and then re-run Audyssey calibrations.
  5. Here are the results of additional Audyssey MultiEQ XT32 calibrations of the RP-240S as surrounds. For all calibrations below, surround left enclosure back is 52.0 inches from wall and surround right enclosure back is 3.5 inches from wall. 1. RP-240S with drivers at +/- 45 degrees to Audyssey microphone (normal wide dispersion usage). Audyssey set crossover to 120 Hz: 2. Both RP-240S rotated so that one set of drivers are 0 degrees to Audyssey microphone (i.e. on axis). Audyssey set crossover to 110 Hz:
  6. At the time of Calibration, one surround was within 3.5-inches of wall and other surround was 3-feet from wall, due to room layout constraints. I will run some Audyssey calibrations on weekend with the two RP-240S' placed on test wall and various distances from wall.
  7. My RP-240S surrounds, whether placed as side-surrounds or back-surrounds, always end up with 150 Hz crossover when calibrated by Audyssey MultEQ or MultEQ XT32. The Klipsch datasheet for the RP-240S states 62-25kHz +/- 3dB, so I would expect these should calibrate to 80 Hz crossover without issue. Anyone have similar issue ? Anyone have actual frequency response test data for these speakers ?
  8. I believe you are correct. Looking at the firmware change logs for all the related Klipsch Play-Fi equipment, it seems that Klipsch is inaccurate and inconsistent with their descriptions. For example, for the Gate it lists "Added Surround Speaker Support as rear surrounds" yet the Gate only has two channel analog input to convert to Play-Fi and itself cannot function as amplifier for speaker. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// POWERGATE - REGION: GLOBAL Product Page NOTES Version: 1.045 Released: 12/20/2017 Region: Global Change Log: Added Surround Speaker Support as rear surrounds. 9. Does anyone know if using the Klipsch Powergate as "Play-Fi Surround Master" with Klipsch RW-1's as "Play-Fi Surround" is possible ? According to the Klipsch website Powergate firmware release 1.45 it should be possible: "Added Surround Speaker Support as rear surrounds", but when I try to setup through the Klipsch Stream app the message "No Master Detected" is given. "NOTES Version: 1.045 Released: 12/20/2017 Region: Global Change Log: Added Surround Speaker Support as rear surrounds. Removed hard sleep mode so Wi-Fi stays active in sleep mode. Over all compatibility and stability fixes" https://www.klipsch.ca/firmware?product=38940 Regards, K
  10. No, it takes three notches for the first volume/LED change and then three more notches for each additional change of volume/LED.
  11. I am worried that the knob is faulty or the electrical contacts are already corroded. I had a car stereo with volume knob that worked perfectly for years then began to fail in the same way.
  12. I just bought a new PowerGate and noticed that when I change the volume using the front panel knob, it requires rotation of three notch positions up/down in order for the volume to change and the LED indicator to change. Yet on the remote control, a single press of volume up or down results in a volume change and the LED indicator to change. Does anyone else observe this behavior?
  13. I just bought/received a new PowerGate and upon unboxing and setup I noticed that there is damage to the plastic enclosure on the top-right corner. It appears to be melted plastic. My guess would be that a hot soldering iron came in contact with the plastic enclosure during final assembly. I really wish Klipsch would get their quality control processes fixed. Picture attached:
  14. The final price to ship back one speaker to Klipsch Canada using same carrier as they used to ship to me using lowest cost ground shipping option was CDN$231, which at this point is still my expense. After repacking it, it appears that the corner with the veneer peeling was due to impact of that corner after boxing during handling at factory, warehouses, or shippers. The result of impact can be traced from box exterior to styrofoam to speaker enclosure. If the packaging was better , a packaging corner impact would not have damaged speaker. I will post pictures later.
  15. I have filed a return request. As of now though, I have to pay return shipping at a cost of approximately CDN$146.00.
  16. They are brand new, only one week old, and directly ordered/shipped from Klipsch Canada, so yes still under warranty.
  17. You should probably read this Klipsch webpage: http://www.klipsch.ca/unauthorized "BEWARE OF SERIAL NUMBER ALTERATIONS." "Many times, these products have serial numbers that have been changed or even removed all together by the unauthorized reseller. Any product represented to be built by Klipsch that does not have a serial number issued by Klipsch should be held suspect by the customer. Removal or alteration of the original Klipsch serial number will automatically void the warranty on that product. Unauthorized dealers either knowingly deceive the consumer by telling them the product is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, or they attempt to make repairs themselves. Repairs made by an unauthorized dealer may not meet Klipsch standards due to the use of inappropriate parts or repair by untrained personnel. Some unauthorized resellers remove serial numbers and product registration cards or replace our mailing address with their own to avoid detection. For that reason, if your new Klipsch product has no serial number or an obviously altered serial number label, or if there are not matching serial numbers both on the product and on a bar code label on the Klipsch box it was received in, immediately contact whoever you purchased that product from for resolution. Also, if there is no registration card, or if the mailing address on the card is not either P.O. Box 688, Hope, AR 71802 or 3502 Woodview Trace, Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46268 or you are directed to not send in a registration card to Klipsch, you should immediately contact whoever you purchased that product from for resolution. The best resolution would be shipment back to that seller for a full refund. Many web sites change names and locations frequently so they cannot be reached to solve customer problems. Other sites simply go out of business." "
  18. I ordered and received brand new RP-280F speakers last week direct from Klipsch. I unpacked and inspected them and found finish quality problems. I am disappointed in Klipsch quality, as this is turning out to be a consistent theme with their products I have purchased. Refer to descriptions below and pictures for problems with RP-280F speakers: 1. Veneer peeling/lifting. It appears that the veneer was either never properly finished or has been damaged due to insufficient packing method and materials. 2. Scratch/marks lines above tweeter. I am not sure if this is from initial manufacturing or from damage due to pressure on mesh grill against vinyl finish during shipping. I don't know if foam that is normally between grill and speaker during shipping was correctly placed or not. 3. Adhesive residue above rear port. There is an adhesive mark on above the reflex port on the rear. At least this is not normally seen since it is on the back, but still disappointing that there is such poor care and poor attention to detail during manufacturing.
  19. I ran Audyssey calibration on the RP-250C and RP-450C with no subwoofer present: RP-250C: Audyssey calibrates to small speaker with crossover of 40Hz. RP-450C: Audyssey calibrates to full range speaker. This is an unexpected result based on the Klipsch datasheet frequency response specs: RP-250C: Frequency Response: 60-25kHz +/- 3dB RP-450C: Frequency Response: 58-25kHz +/- 3dB I need Klipsch to provide their SPL plots for each speaker so I can properly design/chose my system. Also interesting is that Klipsch has spec'ed the 440WC wireless center channel with lower frequency range than the passive 440C. RP-440WC: Frequency Response: 48-25kHz RP-440C: Frequency Response: 59-25kHz +/- 3dB Kris
  20. The center channel is still a full range channel and the center speaker ideally would be full-range and flat across entire frequency range. There should be no boosting of voice bands by speaker since the center channel provides more than just voice. The RP-250F has size and sensitivity close to RP-450C yet its frequency response is 35-25kHz. If the RP-450C had a similar low-end frequency response that would be great as I want my center to be full-range and matching my left/right speakers. I am starting to wonder if the RP-450C has high-pass filter as the RP-450C, RP-250C, and RP-440C all have lower end of frequency response within 2 Hz of each other. Does anyone know if they use high/band-pass filter for center channel woofers ? RP-250C: 60-25kHz +/- 3dB RP-440C: 59-25kHz +/- 3dB RP-450C: 58-25kHz +/- 3dB RC-64 III: 57-24kHz +/- 3dB RP-250F: Frequency Response: 35-25kHz +/- 3dB Sensitivity: 96dB @ 2.83V / 1m Dimensions: 36.10” (91.7 cm) x 7.87” (20.0 cm) x 14.82” (37.7 cm) Volume: 4210 cubic-inch Power: 100W/400W Woofers: 2 x 5.25" Enclosure Type: Bass Reflex Kris
  21. Re-posting this from "Home Theater" forum. Why is the frequency response of the RP-150M better than the RP-450C ? Based on the cabinet size and number of woofers, it seems that the RP-450C should have the better/lower frequency response but it does not. Why ? RP-150M: Frequency Response: 48-25kHz +/- 3dB Dimensions: 14.57” (37.0 cm) x 7.67” (19.5 cm) x 10.67” (27.1 cm) Volume: 1192 cubic-inch Power: 75W/300W Woofers: 1 x 5.25" Enclosure Type: Bass Reflex RP-450C: Frequency Response: 58-25kHz +/- 3dB Dimensions: 6.81 “ (17.3 cm)x 31.13” (79.1 cm) x 14.51” (36.8 cm) Volume: 3076 cubic-inch Power: 150W/600W Woofers: 4 x 5.25" Enclosure Type: Bass Reflex Kris
  22. Why is the frequency response of the RP-150M better than the RP-450C ? 23. Update: I was able to remove the mark. I suspected that this mark might be an adhesive of some sort based on how it looked in close-up photos. Initially I tried to wipe with damp cloth but that had no impact on mark. So, on a 30 year old black MDF Aiwa speaker I have in storage I did experiment with 99% isopropyl alcohol applied in long duration (10 mins until natural evaporation) and three applications, and on each application checked for potential color removal with q-tip and for discoloration or bubbling. Surprisingly, there was absolutely no damage or discoloration during testing and also after 24 hours to confirm long term. So, I proceeded to wipe the RP-250C mark with q-tip but with only 1 to 2 seconds of contact, immediate wipe with damp cloth (filtered water) to dilute and remove isopropyl, then immediately gentle/cool blow dry to prevent any water absorption. Then I extensively checked for damage, discoloration, uniformity in a every possible angle of bright day light and point-source incandescent light to verify the mark is completely removed and no damage/discoloration or surface uniformity problems were caused by isopropyl use. This took a lot of my time and effort and risk, so I wish Klipsch would improve quality control and due care on their production line.
  24. I just bought a new RP-250C center channel speaker. This was a new RP-250C that has no indications that it had ever been unboxed/returned before. On unboxing and inspection, I noticed scratches on the MDF enclosure side-panel. Refer to picture 1. It appears to have been dragged on abrasive surface. I returned the speaker to the store for an exchange and received a replacement. I unboxed and inspected the second unit and noticed a quarter sized discolouration on the top of the speaker enclosure. Refer to pictures 2, 3, and 4. This appears to have either been MDF panel damage that was coloured over at the factory or maybe a repair done after a return. I am very disappointed in this level of quality. I have other MDF speakers and they don't have this kind of quality issues. Is this typical of Klipsch these days? I need to return it for another replacement or refund but this is ridiculous that it takes this many exchanges.
  25. I have tried to push the insulation to one side, but the RP-250F port is too small for my hand and just pushing with my fingers is not resulting in the insulation being seated to the side. It could be too that the insulation was not cut to the proper size and that is why it is flopping around.
