  1. And be left with a box that has a 1/4" top and a 1/4" bottom ... You heard it here Considering the RP-404C II. But afraid it may not have enough SPL to keep up with the RC-7's. (Know it will NOT keep up with my KPT-904's.) Afterall, 4 x 4" woofers have only HALF the area of 2 x 8" woofers
  2. Thought about mounting these RC-3 tweeters/woofers on the "outside of the box ... but would never be able to make an adequate frame for grille cloth - haha; wife does NOT like "open" speakers. So; next suggestion?
  3. @TasDom Thank You SIR! Yes; is going to take a major amount of Vaseline
  4. Just found this pic ... don't think I can fit it "nicely" in a 7 inch box
  5. Cool - yes; maybe the best solution just to build one. Not sure the woofer/tweeter sizes will let me cut-off an inch. Maybe @TasDom could measure these? Thanks a lot TasDom
  6. Thanks for the tip ... was wondering about that
  7. Thanks Now only if I could find a walnut pair CraigsList seller has a pair of walnut RP-500M's ... 48Hz cutoff which is substantially better than the RB-15's ... yes; rear ported, but I can always "stuff" them. Appreciate your input on those
  8. Found a Klipsch RP-404C ii which easily fits my dimensional constraints ... but; freq cutoff is at 87 Hz ... is that low enough for a center?
  9. The Rp-500m's which I was considering cut off at 1500Hz Also was considering the RP-404C II which has a crossover at 1900Hz.
  10. Schu, thanks! Guess the problems are not as bad as expected
  11. Thanks; have an Onkyo TX-RZ810 (130wpc) ... think it should be sufficient.
  12. Started a thread earlier today, looking for a center channel to compliment L/R RC-7's. However, due to size constraints a pair of bookshelf speakers would be much easier. Yes; know it is generally NOT recommended due to interference issues. But ... also know many (?) people do use DUAL centers. So; anyone has any experience with this. Also, NO clue how to hook up dual bookshelf speakers? Parallel/serial to AVR (Onkyo TX-RZ810) or use a separate amp. Interference or not? Thanks, Emile
  13. Yeah, thanks but how do we hook them up? Separate amp or parallel/series to AVR? Interference issues? Also found a nice pair of RP-500m's close to me - no clue which are better.
  14. Darn ... too tall Thanks for taking the time to measure
  15. Haha; did not even know they had feet Anyone who has an RC-3 care to measure? Thanks
  16. Close, but "no cigar." RC-3 is 7.9 inches tall - 0.9" too high
  17. OK; used to have Heresy's as L/C/R, but the wife "disapproved," so got rid of those and am now using RC-7's as L/R without a "center." (Haha; wife hated the center Heresy in front of the fireplace - and "lost" the space on top of my KPT-904's when I went for bigger horns.) But ... want to try another center again But; have dimensional constraints Max height of (new) center is 7", max depth is 9", width OK to 38" - so another RC-7 is NOT possible. Any thoughts on a center that would be small enough and compatible to my RC-7's? Also thought of using dual bookshelf speakers (such as RP-500m's). Know this is generally NOT recommended due to interference issues. But also know many (?) people do use dual centers without any problems. Hook them up parallel/serial onto AVR - or use a different amp? Appreciate your advise on this. Cheers, Emile
  18. Robert, same here as well as some classic rock like Queen and (old) Chicago. Did not think classical was appropriate for testing as there is not much "center" presence, so used a 5.1 DVD - Norah Jones, "Live in NOLA." And ... YES SIR ... you were absolutely correct Set down-mix to "stereo," and pretty sure my Nikko/Crown/KPT's are getting a FULL STEREO feed. And my Onkyo AVR "says," HDMI 5.1channel source, so the down-mix did NOT affect the HDMI feed, just as you predicted! AWESOME! Made a small mistake You kept on referring to page 68 ... and I kept on indexing the PDF to page 68 - which is (actually) page 64 and shows "audio reference charts;" never showing "stereo" for 5.1 inputs. Lesson learned ) Thank You, Thank You! Cheers, Emile
  19. Interesting ... never seen that approach before
  20. Yes, TWO RC-7's as Left and Right. No center. Sounds as good as my previous setup (Heresies L/C/R - haha; wife objected to "center" in front of the fireplace ... also had no room left on top of my KPT's as I switched to much bigger JBL horns (only slightly smaller than K-402's) Thanks for correcting my thought of "just adding another DAC;" will run the Oppo menu again, "downgrade" to stereo and see what happens to the HDMI. But, will have to wait till tomorrow as I have to pick-up my wife from the airport shortly. THANKS!
  21. Robert, Thanks a million for your help on this. OK; Stereo setup is Oppo - Nikko Beta II preamp - Crown K1 - KPT-904's. Multi channel is Oppo/other HDMI - Onkyo TX-RZ810 - RC-7 (front L/R) and RB-75's (rear) and sub. Studied the Oppo manual and "think" any 5.1/higher input gets transferred to the Oppo RCA outputs as 5.1/higher (as per the tables). Tried the Oppo menu and cannot find a setting to "downgrade" its RCA outputs to stereo. Only stereo output comes from coax/optical. So, easiest way seems to be an optical to RCA converter and then hook it up to my Nikko preamp. But, haha, could be wrong Thanks for the help
  22. Robert, thanks a lot! It is becoming clearer to me (and found out another mistake I made). OK; let's assume we are using a 5.1 source ... First, yes; Oppo is connected to AVR via HDMI. Also, Oppo is connected to separate preamp/amp/KPT-904's using its L/R outputs. And that was my first mistake Thought that connection was giving me full "stereo," but it gives me "5.1 L/R." And no clue if this can be set to full stereo WITHOUT affecting the HDMI output. So; when I was comparing my Oppo "5.1 L/R" output with my AVR L/R pre-output I obviously did NOT hear a difference But the question kind of remains, i.e. What is the (sound) difference between "5.1 L/R" and "stereo." Seems to me that "5.1 L/R" SUBTRACTS the side/rear/other channels whereas they are present in full "stereo." But; have no clue how much this impacts the sound. Please advise. Many thanks, Emile
  23. OK; let me try to explain it another way If I hookup my "back surround" pre-out we get a completely different speaker sound if compared to "stereo." So; I would assume that hooking up the L/R pre-outs would also give me a different sound from "stereo" as these signals are "processed for surround sound." Right/wrong?
  24. Not really Let me rephrase ... what is the (sound) difference between L/R from surround sound versus L/R from 2-channel stereo?
  25. Sorry; was a "speech shortcut." Hooked up via pre-amp and power amp.
