  1. Haha ... your room is big enough for PRO Klipsch speakers Once you try them, you'll never go back
  2. And thanks to @Westcoastdrums for his valuable advise
  3. Coytee ... thanks! Think I'm picking up a K1 tomorrow
  4. OK; looks like I'm picking up a Crown K1 tomorrow ... not as powerful as the K2, but still seems highly recommended vs the XLS series. Jeez ... 3 hour roundtrip ... hope it's worth it
  5. Oops ... have the K-691's in one set, and "the same" B&C 75's with my 904's Haha; was wondering why you wanted to know my CD players
  6. Sony X1000 Blu-Ray, Oppo DVD-980H. Yes; was ready to buy a Crown amp (haha, or "two") but now I'm concerned about over-powering those since the recommendation is 100W at 8 Ohms Hope someone can shed some light on this Many thanks, Emile
  7. Haha ... guess we are all idiots ... chatted with "Sam Ash" and was told PA amps are overkill for "home" use Haha
  8. Yeah; extremely cold here in Tampa Bay, FL. High will be about 62F ... may have to find a pair of socks Sorry; feel bad for you all up North ... stay inside!
  9. Haha ... @Westcoastdrums suggested the K2 (especially since he has a spare ) But the K2's are "older" (???) technology and I think this stuff might have gotten better ... plus the Crown XLS series have some additional bells and whistles
  10. Rockhound; thanks! Hope you can give me some more input Checked the QSC you mentioned and it was 550W/ch ... is that a problem for the HF 501's or does the crossover "protect" them ... meaning I should stick to only 100W for the horns if I bi-amp them? Just talked to Crutchfield ... advisor insisted on close to 800W (2 small Crown XLS's in bridged mode) and warned me I was "melting" my drivers with insufficient power (Marantz 2252B I was using). Any truth to this??? Many, many thanks! Emile
  11. Hi All, Was hoping to get some advise on amps for my KPT-904's. Listening room is about 15x25 ft ( about 10 ft high) with half of it open to a 30x40 ft space. Currently run my speakers from line-out AVR (Onkyo RZ-810) to a Marantz 2252B ( 52W/ch). Sounds AWESOME, but seemed I ran out of power during our last party ... plus maybe clipping them with insufficient power. Almost got a Sansui AU-G99X (160W/ch) but the deal fell through. So; started looking at class D pro-amps like the Crown series. Read reviews here and "most" people seemed pleased with them. Clueless as to what power I need ... Klipsch recommends 800W minimum, but think that is overkill due to my "home use." (904 specs at https://f072605def1c9a5ef179-a0bc3fbf1884fc0965506ae2b946e1cd.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/product-specsheets/KPT-904-Data-Sheet-v04.pdf ) The Crown XLS 1002 puts out 215W/ch at 8 Ohms; the XLS 1502 yields 300W and the XLS 2002 gives 375W. OK; there are bigger ones They also have an XTi series but they are about double the cost and I have no clue why Many thanks for your inputs! Cheers, Emile Add-on ... believe the XTi series is an AB amp?
  12. Speakers are never too big I've got a "200 seat" pair of KPT-904's in my living room ... awesome. And FYI; had a New Year's party and ran out of volume (OK; using a 52W/ch Marantz 2252B on them ... haha ... made a guy an offer on a Sansui AU-717 ... spec'd at 85W/ch but usually tested at 100W/ch.) Go for it ... you do have a "volume" knob
  13. Just not sure Yes; nice on a pair of Herery's ... but might be a bit much on "big boxes" like Cornwall's. Haha ... no go on jubes and big pro bins ... plus they'd probably charge $5000 for those

Darn ... wish I would have known before your Florida trip ... you could have dropped it off
  15. Martin, Welcome to the forum Suggest you look at vintage receivers/amps also. Had a set of KG4's and used a Marantz 1060 with them ... very clean sound with enough power (30W/ch). Sold that amp, but liked it so much, I just bought another one for $300 off CraigsList Another good Marantz is model 2238B, at the higher range of your $$ budget. If you want to save more, look at a Yamaha CR-620 or CR-820. About $100-200 and (? think) 35-40W/ch. The KG4's are fairly efficient (94dB's), but you will need at least 25 (real) W/ch. Not familiar with the Yamaha a-s500/501, but I am sure they will do a fine job. They spec at 85W/ch which probably is comparable to the 35-40W/ch for the older Yammies I mentioned. (And ... a dedicated amp will sound much better than the Onkyo AVR you sold.) Have fun ... good luck. Cheers, Emile Add-on ... check your KG4 tweeters ... the titanium diaphragm is a "must have" update for those
  16. Haha ... congrats you lucky guy Have 904's with 510 horns and YES; awesome even though they are not in the Jubes/402 "league." (But much better than the "residential" Klipsch stuff.) Still looking for Jubes, but I'll have to spend major $$ to renovate my house for those ... maybe when the stock market comes back Cheers, Emile
  17. Hi Kevin, Haha ... understand Most of us have WAF issues There are "some" ways to "get around" this problem Borrow someones Cornwall's/Chorus'/Forte's for a week ... yes; she will hate the "size." Then downgrade to "small" Heresy's and she'll be OK ... maybe Re your AVR selections, in particular the Onkyo 676. Had one of those a couple of years ago; pretty good unit, very good to "get started" especially for $200. Haha; try it; you will upgrade anyhow - upgrading is the fun part of this hobby. (Note; the HDMI inputs DO NOT :transfer" to pre-outs on this one - not sure; think it had pre-outs - ... HDMI "transfer" will cost you at least 2-3x this to get that function.) The Denon supposedly is better ... the Yamaha much better. My approach has been to try "cheaper" but good units first ... I think a couple hundred $$ is well spend to get up to speed and decide what exactly you want before spending the big bucks Last, re the subwoofer. Very easy upgrade ... but hardly ever "needed." I've got a 15 inch, 1000W sub ... nice to have, but maybe I turn it on once every 3 months Cheers, Emile
  18. Just get some series I Heresy's or Forte's (about $300-600). THEN, look for upgrades and resell your "old" speakers (Upgrading is the fun part of this hobby.) BTW ... welcome to the forum
  19. Don't know what cutoff's you need. But you might want to try a cheap active xover like a MiniDSP 2x4 ($100) - 2-way. Cheers, Emile
  20. Yes; why not? I've got an Onkyo RZ810 AVR and use the pre-outs to feed a Marantz 2252B with KPT-904 speakers ... AWESOME!
  21. Hi Kevin, Welcome to the forum ... you'll probably get a wide variety of suggestions A lot depends on 1) your budget and 2) space for "just" 2 speakers or a 3.1/5.1/etc setup. If we try "low budget" and "no space" I would get a vintage receiver (like a Yamaha CR-620; 35W/ch, about $150, or a Marantz - good but more $$) and a pair of used Heresy speakers (about $300 - note "model I" - but in my opinion much better than RP600's ... bit larger though). Don't know what sound outputs your TV has, but if not RCA, there are always converter boxes (optical-RCA or HDMI-RCA) to hook it up to the amp. Your TT will sound great through this and you can add a DVD/etc. If you want HT sound you will need a HT receiver, which will be a minimum of $500 to get the bells and whistles you need. Check accessories4less.com for good prices. OK; now we start building and spending money. (You'll find the people on this forum love to spend other people's money ) Front L/R speakers: due to your smaller space, I think the Heresy's will be fine. Center speaker; another Heresy ("dedicated" horizontal center speakers are marketing BS ... if you can, use the same speaker as your L/R If you want "thunder and lightning" from your TV, you will need a subwoofer. Very good place to look is partsexpress.com ... they have DIY kits for about $3-400 ... get at least a 15 inch subwoofer. If needed you can "veneer" it for the wife Next add some rear speakers ... any high efficiency speakers will do ... cheapest are probably the KG series (I have some 1.5's, pretty small but I think they would suffice - 3.2/5's would probably be better ... pretty cheap on CraigsList, etc.). HAHA ... once you get started you will be upgrading anyhow ... mostly bigger and more efficient speakers ... Forte's, Khorns, Pro speakers - depends on how much room you have. (And FYI, if you start with the "low budget" route, you can use the 2 channel amp for extra front speakers or etc ... ) Have fun Cheers, Emile Oops; forgot ... you will need a "big" amp for the subwoofer, like a Dayton Audio SA1000 ($300+??). "External" amps are preferrred since the "build-in" plate amps do NOT last.
