  1. I would highly suggest the Denon DVD-2200. It is both a DVD player that plays DVD audio and SACD. I spent $539 for it at Ultimate Electronics. I would caution you in your purchase. You want to buy a DVD player that does not have the chroma bug in it. The Denon DVD2800MK2 has the chroma bug in it. I would recommend you looking at the following site www.hometheaterhifi.com You will be able to get very good info there on DVD's. You will also be able to see which DVD players do and do not have the chroma bug
  2. I currently have the following speakers and configurations Front-RF-25 Front Center & Rear Center- RC-25 (rear center on stand 4 feet high) Rears-RB-25 on stands about 4 feet high Sub-RW-10 I have a Yami RX-v1400 and have my speakers set to large all around and bass set to sub First, what should be my cross over level in order to get a better blending of the bass management. Meaning, I want a level where the listener can not distinguish whether the bass is coming from the main speakers or the sub unless the sub is off. I am assuming that the cross over level would depend on the speaker size setting. If I set all of my speakers to small, would that help in making the sub disappear or make it more noticable. Second, I do have all of my speakers set to large. Should the mains be the only ones set to large Thx
  3. Hey ONMEDIC Not too long ago, I too was on this forum trying to decide on what to buy. I sampled many speakers and receivers in all the local high end stores. I do not have a room as large as yours, so size of the speakers was an issue for me (room is 15x12) Ultimately it came down to Klipsch Reference and the B&W 600 series. First let me tell you, that I listened to Yamaha, Denon and Pioneer Elite through these speakers. While the denons were crystal clear, I found them to have too much highs and not enough bass. The pioneer Elites were not as clear as the Denon, but had better range between the highs and bass. But when I listened to the Yamaha 1400 and 2400 it blew both of the denon and pioneer away. It had the perfect blend of highs and Bass and was clear. In no way am I saying that Denon or Pioneer are not quality products or that any of the folks out here are incorrect in their assessments of these recievers or speakers, but keep in mind that sound is all relative to the ears listening to that sound. What I may hear another may or may not. I used both DVD's and CD's when I tested these speakers out. I almost always use the live version of Hotel California from the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over" CD. When I decided on the receiver, it was no coincidence that I was listening to it through the Klipsh Reference series. I ultimately ended up buying the RF-25, (2) RC-25, RB-25 & the RW-10 for a 6.1 setup. I have the 2 RB-25's and the rear RC-25 all on the same type of stand. Setup was a breeze. I have had this setup for a month now, and I tell you, If I had to choose again, I would still pick the same setup.
  4. Boy, it seems that I have sparked quite a discussion. I guess I now owe it to all explain my reasoning behind the question. First and foremost- If you read my question, you would note that I asked if there were any AUTHORIZED dealers online. I want to deal with a reputable company that will be honored by Klipsch in case something did happen. I also only have 2 stores in my area that are Klipsch dealers or true high end stores, so I was looking at my options. Am I price conscience, Yes I am. But I am also very conscience of the level of customer service I get. It is a huge pet peeve with me. Ignore me and you will lose my business, too pushy or arrogant and you will lose my business. I am not a rich man, and unfortunately, circumstances in my life dictate what my budget is that I can spend. I had to relocate b/c of work, which meant buying a new house, my wife would be giving up her job (we then become a 1 income family), my wife and I are also expecting a new baby in less than 1 month, which means a new minivan, b/c you can not fit 3 car seats in a sedan. These are some of the circumstances that dictate what I can spend on my new home theater. Therefore I am price conscience, but that does not mean that I am not willing to buy from a local dealer, but yes only if the price is right for me, not what is best for them. Someone out here said they are in the business of making money, and I say that I am in the business of looking out for what is best for me and my family. Don't get me wrong, there is a happy median, I believe that when both sides compromise, the businesses can be profitable and the consumer satisfied with what they paid without having quality sacrificed. There are obvious things you can get from a local store that you can not get from an online dealer, I know this. But let me aks you this, how do you handle over zealous salespeople who work on commision and really only care more about their money than the consumer they are suppose to be helping. I am also faced with that here in my area and that is another reason I asked about online stores. Sorry for the rambling- I guess I just wanted to get my 2 cents in and let you all know where I am coming from.
  5. Thx all for the responses. A couple of years ago, I really liked the way the Toshiba Cinema Series looked. I liked it better that the Mits, but since I have moved, there are no Toshiba Cinema Series where I am. I have already seen the new 2004 Mits, and granted the new options are great, but the picture quality of the Siler Series Plus (last years gold series plus) was horrible. Of all the sets I saw in the store, the Samsung 46 and 56 inch DLPs looked the best. But I did not ask them to show them to me on a non HDTV source. I will need to look into that. I guess where I may have some major confusion in is how all of the tweaking will play into it. I mean, until I started doing research and coming to the forums, I never knew that TV's could be tweaked through convergence, calibrating and other steps. My issue now is, I can see which TV is best out of the box, but WHICK TV will be BEST after completely TWEAKED. Also, how many times will it need to be tweaked, is it an easy process, are there tools required. I will definitely invest in the AVIA disc and a SPL (I think that's a sound pressure thing for my speakers) I really appreciate all of the advice all of you have given. I have found this site to be the friendliest, easiest, non-judemental and non arrogant forum I have been to.
  6. hi all, it's me again, even more confused than when I first started my quest for a new system. I think I have finally decided on my speakers RF-25 for the fronts, RB-25 for the Rears, 2 RC-25's and 1 RW-10. The RF5 and RF7's are just too big for my room. Prewiring for my new house is happening this weekend & I only have 2 1/2 weeks left before I have to make all the final choices for all of my components. I am seriously confused on which TV to select. I can not fit anything larger than 55" I intially was going to buy a 55" Mitsubishi, b/c of all the hype over mitsubishi. Then I looked at the Samsung DLP and fell in love with the picture. Then I read reviews on both of them and found that they each had their quirks. I really was not impressed with the picture quality on the 55" Mitsubishi w/the intergrated HDTV tuner. I saw some of the Pioneer Elite TV's and thought they had a slightly better picture than the Mitsubishi. So it brings me to wonder, is Mitsubishi as good as people have made them to be. Or has some of the other companies just caught up and possibly surpassed Mitsubishi as a better product.
  7. I am just wondering if there are any AUTHORIZED Klipsch dealers currently allowed to sell on the internet. If so, please let me know their web sites. Thx
  8. Thx for the forum URL CO1. Unfortunately, now I am even more confused, as with most places, the place I am shopping at pushed Mitsubishi, but a lot of the reviews I have read on them are a lot more mixed and lower than the stores keep telling me. Doug Drake, as for buying a front projector, I checked with Ultimate Electronics and the smallest front projector they sell is going to be about $8,200. If you know of a place where I can get one for under $3,400, please let me know. Thx
  9. Hi all, it's me again, looking for some more help. After careful reviewing, listening and watching, I have decided not to go with the Mitsubishi 55" w/ the intergrated HDTV tuner. Instead, I have falling in love with the Samsung DLP, everything I have seen about it and all of the review have raved about it. I was wondering if anyone on this board has any of the DLP models and what they thought about it. For those that do not have it, but have seen it, let me know what you think. I have a room that is 15 feet long and 11 feet wide. After taking measurements, I am estimateing that I will be sitting about 8 feet from the TV, so I am thinking about the 46" or 50" screen Thx
  10. Thx all, I was about to buy the Yamaha RX-V2300, but the new RX-V1400 and RX-V2400 have just been released. I have a Yamaha model that I purchased several years ago from Best Buy (I Know now, not the best place to buy a top receiver) and I love it. I am heading back to the shop today to finalize my choices, I will most likely listen to the Pioneer Elites and see if they have Marantz But I just think that Yamaha provides the best all around balance of sound and value for all of the features it has.
  11. I know that I am new to this board, but from all of the topics I have been reading, I see a lot of people using or recommending HK, Denon, or Marrantz. How come Yamaha's are not getting any love, am I that sheltered that Yamaha receivers just don't compare to the 3 mentioned above. Now I am starting to doubt my selection of a Yamaha receiver for my new setup. I have listened to Denon, and they have too much highs for me, HK, I listened to when I bought my first yamaha and found them not to sound as good, plus they have a bad reputation for needing a lot of repairs. I have not heard Marrantz receivers that I can recall I know how a receiver sounds is all relative to the person listening to it, but there are going to be quality differences that are just too noticable to neglect. I mean I would know the difference if we were comparing a Mitsubishi Diamond series to a Sanyo 25 inch TV, or a Mercedes to a Pinto. So am I missing something, if Marrantz is suppose to be the S series Mercedes, is the Yamaha the pinto or is it fair to say that the Yamaha might be the C series Mercedes, or just a Chevy
  12. The living room is only 11 feet wide by 15 feet long, I think 7.1 would be overkill for a room this size. I am now kind of thinking of doing some of the install myself. The portion of basement under my LR will not be finished, so I could drill some holes through the floor and run the cables underneath and staple to the underside of my LR floor.
  13. Hi all First I must say that the installation is not not only for this setup, they will also be installing my exisitng system in the Family room. Second, all of this is taking place in a new home that is currently being built, therefore all of the wiring will be done in the walls before the drywall goes in. so they will be doing my family room for a 5.1 setup and the living room for a 6.1 setup, that means a lot of speaker wire, there will be all new monster cables for video and audio, wall plates, banana plugs, etc. They will also be setting up a LCD touchscreen remote for the living room Because this a new house, I wanted to take advantage of that and have everything prewired. I have 2 small children and a new one due just about the time my house and new HT is due to be completed, so I would not have the time to do it myself. and the basement will be finished so, it would be difficult to do the prewiring after the house is done. And finally, though I do consider myself a technical person and somewhat intelligent, I must admit that I do not feel confident that I would be able to tweak my system to the best of it's ability Trust me, it hurts me to pay that to someone to do
  14. Chinoloco- Again thx for the feedback. I read an article that you might be interested in about the surround speakers. here is the link http://www.bwspeakers.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/local.faq/ObjectID/F5CA2EB5-3D20-11D4-A67F00D0B7473B37
  15. Chinoloco Thx for the reply. I am curious, how do you like the dipole speakers (RS-25), the guy at the store was trying to sell me on them, but I would prefer to use the RB-25's
