  1. Dick, Be careful about those "implied" acceptances. Anything other than, "I' ll take them. here's the money." is not an acceptance, but a counter offer. "I'll take them, but . . ." is not an acceptance. If I were in your situation, I'd contact the first person I felt "impliedly accepted" my offer. Give that person a reasonable time to confirm the acceptance by PayPal, etc.. If #1 isn't interested on those terms, move on to whomever you feel is #2, and so forth. Expressing interest is not the same as accepting your offer. The people on this forum are, for the most part, reliable and honorable. That said, I would not allow anyone to obstruct a sale to someone ready to meet my price without a deposit to show good faith. Until someone provides $1,200 (cash, wire, PayPal, etc), you've nothing to lose by letting tire kickers ask questions and pose hypotheticals. Anyone who is serious will demonstrate that with $$$. Everyone else is hoping for an audition, shipping miracles, etc., which is fine, as long as no one else is interested enough to meet your price. Best wishes. EDIT: 05/10/13 @ 21:10 EDT Your post might have been better located in your other thread http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/173771.aspx?PageIndex=1 To minimize confusion, I suggest posting only in one thread or the other.
  2. Lifter- Whether or not you get bashed is no indication of whether you're legally, morally or ethically in the right. Someone here could bash you, or me, no matter what. This is an equal opportunity forum; it's a platform for all opinions, regardless of merit. It's comical to me that forum members argue about who posted the first reply, sent the first PM or email. While forum members are fine tuning the pecking order, a non-forum member can swoop in and seal the deal. IMO, money talks, BS walks. Contact a seller to close the deal by PayPal, etc. At the very least, make a good faith non-refundable deposit to hold the deal for a reasonable time until you get a chance to decide. To expect a seller to turn away a real buyer just because someone can prove he was thinking about it earlier, is foolish. Could the seller force the first "thinker" to complete the deal? Of course not. If I were the seller, I'd probably give the first person to respond a reasonable time (1 - 2 hours) to consumate our deal by PayPal, etc. After that agreed to time period, I'd sell to the first buyer to pay. "Dibs" would not enter the equation. If I were the seller and the buyer is someone known to me from the forum, I'd honor that relationship by extending the length of a reasonable time to close the deal, but I'd still insist upon payment before turning away other potential buyers. Twice I've accepted offers from forum members (with 5 digit post counts) known to me, only to later learn they'd accepted "better" offers. You bet I was annoyed, but the deals were not consumated and I was dealing with individuals whose word was without value. To protect everyone, use PayPal, etc. to conform to real business standards. Hurt feelings could be avoided. Others are free to disagree.
  3. IMO, the first one to present the cash to the seller wins. It's up to the seller to decide who gets them. While arguing over dibs, as if this were the last slice of pizza at a family picnic, someone will get face to face with the seller and accept the seller's offer by paying the asking price, or by making an offer to the seller, which the seller can refuse or accept. It's naive to think the seller would, or should, turn down a real buyer due to "dibs" among strangers. That seems to be a fair price for the package, irrespective of whether or not the tweeters work, the pots are scratchy, etc. If I wanted them, I'd Contact the seller, agree to a price and send payment by PayPal, while others wrestle over the pizza. On the other hand, if someone accepts the seller's offer by PayPal, wire transfer, etc., it would be wrong for the seller to entertain higher offers. Be first by accepting (paying) first. Hemming and hawing is OK if someone else doesn't accept first, but it's risky. If someone wants a chance to check them out, he should pay for an option to hold the merchandise for a specified period of time, e.g., $100 non-refundable deposit by PayPal, etc. for 48 hours. Anything less is asking the seller to turn down real offers while others think about it. The seller assumes all of the risk. If it's not worth a non-refundable deposit to the would be buyers to hold the merchandise, why should the seller turn away real buyers? YMMV
  4. A good time was had by all. Glenn did a much better job of describing Brett's system than I did in a separate post. Brett- Thanks again.
  5. The food was tempting, but, after a recent physical, I'm on a mission to get below 200#. After a restaurant meal, including a Bell's Amber Ale, in Ann Arbor Saturday evening, there was no room in the plan for additional recreational calories Sunday afternoon. Would you like to borrow the Joe B. at Royal Albert Hall DVD? I can drop it off and you can watch & listen at your leisure, when you're not pretending to enjoy Les Miserables.
  6. Brett- Thanks for the hospitality shown to Glenn "Picky" Mosby and me by you and Pam. It was a pleasure meeting you and sampling the results of the efforts of you and Glenn to tame your excellent Klipsch HT system in its new setting in a recently finished basement. I'll leave it to you to provide the specifics of the complement of Klipsch speakers and the hardware that make up the system. In addition to meeting you for the first time and getting reacquainted with Glenn, we listened to Zeppelin, Hart, James Taylor, Dave Brubeck, Diana Krall and others to put the system though its paces. The clean power and impact of your setup were amazing. The bass was palpable. It was a genuine pleasure to meet with fellow forum members and to share the hobby.
  7. artto said, "As a final note I'd also like to add that IMO the experience and care the recording/mastering engineer puts into a recording has far more to do with the quality of the recording than whether it was recorded in analog or digital, or what the sample rate/bit depth or tape speed, equipment used, etc was." I typically agree with artto's interesting and thorough posts. I especially agree with the above quote. IMO excellent sounding recordings sound good for many reasons other than the recording medium. The converse is true for bad sounding recordings.
  8. Mark- I agree completely. My 24 y.o. son NEVER listens to music through speakers, except in a car. The rest of the time it's headphones (albeit Klipsch S4s) for music, videos and gaming (vintage Koss over ear). OTH, my 31 y.o. son has started to listen to music using the totally refurbished H/K 430 - Heresy system I gave him as a graduation present. He's just now realizing the compromises presented by compressed music when payed through a good system. He recognizes the superiority of good recordings, but I have to remind him that a good stereo system won't make bad recordings sound better; it just magnifies their deficiencies.
  9. They look great. Those suggestions regarding selling them in Japan make sense, if they can be shipped at govt. expense. A friend of mine (ring knocker from USNA) shipped his 74 Vette to a deployment to Spain. He sold it for a profit and bought a 911, which was shipped home at no cost to him. IMO, the military deserve such perks.
  10. Dave posted, " . . . Actually, the most interesting thing on that page was the most recent addition about Harry Partch. The blog owner has a link to an old documentary about him."As Bruce just indicated above, the "owner" of that fascinating blog is our own seti. Must be those mallets Partch uses on his marimbas that got your attention Dave. IMO, any post referencing seti's blog can't be described as a hi-jack. One good thing about a Bradford Baffle, if you don't like it, you can mount it in your back door to allow the dog to let himself in or out. Despite all of the professed superiority of the Bradford Baffle over cornerhorns or bass reflex, they never caught on.
  11. It's not exactly a dog picture, but it's dog and music related. Plus, it's a good excuse to bump this classic thread. Finally, it's funny.
  12. Seems fair http://jalopnik.com/indian-father-jailed-for-letting-his-kids-drive-a-ferra-483863337
  13. Pandora is also great in the car with the phone & Ford Sync. Who needs Sirrius and their customer "disservice."?
  14. Yes it works well. I also used a male to male cable to go from the headphone out on the phone to the input of the iGroove. The sound is good but having the phone tethered to the iGroove is inconvenient. The Bluetooth is more convenient. The first CoolStream unit died. They replied to an email on a Sunday and shipped a replacement out immediately. All is good.
  15. SWMBO objected to me listening to TED talks in bed while she was reading, so I bought a pair of S4s. Now I'm addicted to Pandora, Klipsch S4 & iPad. I know Mog, and others, have higher stream rates, but the sound is great and the synopses are even better, plus it's easier to use than Spotify or Mog. Whether listening to Buddy Holly or Oscar Peterson, there's a well written piece about the artist. Pandora on iPad exposes me to new music and educates me about it as well as old favorites.
  16. More annoying than clever. Wouldn't you just like to wring the little sucker's neck? In before the deletion. Locking won't cure what's wrong with this thread.
  17. I feel for you But, look at the bright side. Had you purchased them for $500 you'd have opened the door to criticism from the self-appointed forum police about the morality of your bargain.
  18. Very interesting. That said, it reminds me of such efforts as the last iteration of the Lotus Élan; an attempt to make the "Wold's best handling front wheel drive car." Sort of like being the world's tallest midget, or shortest giant. The La Scala is an excellent speaker. I've owned them and done djk's bass reflex mod (search La Scala bass mod) with excellent results. I would do that simple and easily reversible mod to any La Scalas I owned. If that didn't provide enough bass, I'd add a tapped horn sub. What you're suggesting is intriguing, and definitely a worthy DIY project, but, IMO, the time, money & plywood would be better spent on a sub, especially a horn loaded sub, to augment the La Scala, rather than trying to turn it into something it is not.
  19. Bruce- I thought I had the answer but turns out I have two sizes of T-nuts left over and I'm not sure which size is correct. When I was last inside La Scalas, I added 4 more T-nuts and screws to each woofer. Four make sense for ease of assembly and cost of production, but 8 with some thread locker are better in the DIY scenario. I'm eager to see photos and hear your impressions of the mod.
  20. Oldtimer- Is it time to break out the helmets?
  21. Can you believe the carelessness? No eye protection, hearing protection or gloves. Some people. At least the gene pool will be a little shallower.
  22. Dean- Thanks for the alert. You, better than most, know the power of support from this forum. I'll be thinking of Bob. There can't be too much positive energy.
  23. They look great. Please give us an update when the Fisher 400 is back in service. Glad you got new diaphragms from Bob and that you're back in business. BTW Today I took my own advice and ordered a K77 diaphragm from Bob. Often photos of our speakers show background evidence of our vices . . . your first picture certainly does that.
