  1. This is great! Exactly the kind of suggestions I was looking for. I just put holds on The Game, ****** & Galaxy Quest from the local library. I've made a list of a dozen of the fiilms recommended. I'll work my way through.

No one has commented yay or nay regarding The Spanish Prisoner. If you've never seen it, give it a look. Get it from your local library and you risk nothing. If you've already seen it, or watch it now, please share your reaction.

  2. Room treatments are generally overlooked. It's not brain surgery[;)] but it can be both tricky and rewarding.

As mentioned above, a cluttered room can be quite good acoustically. We've all expereinced the clap echo in a room without carpeting, furniture or window treatments. Start adding stuff and the room will shift from overly live toward more acoustically dead. Move stuff around and add and subtract furniture, carpet, blinds, etc., to see how tthe ssound changes. Just don't put the stuff between the sweet spot and the source.

Nice restaurants frequently have large windows covered by stained wood blinds with cloth tapes. While they look nice, they're primary function is to tame the room acoustically. Other window treatments would deal with sun control and be easier to clean, but they don't have the same impact on the sound of a large space filled with noisy diners.

Listening rooms in audio stores--remember what those were--tended to be somewhat dead, due to the large number of speakers in the often small room. Unless they moved the subject speakers before auditioning, they were unlikely to be properly located to sound their best. The passive speakers would absorb much of the higher frequency sound from the speakers being auditioned. It's no surprise that the preferred speakers sounded much different in your space than they did at the dealer.

It may not be as much fun as new caps, cables, drivers, etc., but treating the room can be more rewarding at less expense.

  3. What are some good films you've enjoyed that might have dropped below the collective radar?

    I'll start with a few;

    The Spanish Prisoner

Steve Martin, Ben Gazarra, Campbell Scott, Ricky Jay, Ed O'Neil in a mystery; not a comedy.

Commercially doomed by a misleading title (it's the name of a specific confidence game) and a deliberate G rating, this interesting David Mamet production is well worth a look, or two.

  4. "Boy, I'm glad I got to go to those seminars Mr. Klipsch used to host. Really down to earth, and things presented to even I could understand them."

Was a 3 channel system demonstrated at the seminars you went to? It was at one I attended in approximately 1976. Meeting PWK was a real treat.

  5. Until recently, my answer would have been this forum.

My second reason for loving Klipsch is this forum. What's not to like; I've made some good friends, gotten a wealth of information, tried to offer help to others when I could, LMFAO on many occasions. I'm not trying to be a *** here, but did the forum hurt you in some way?

I agree with you, but the recent uptick in public name calling is not to like.

The forum hasn't, and can't, hurt me in any way, excpect if it ceases to be a place for the a friendly and open exchange of information and ideas. The positive benefits you articulated are undercut each time a forum member is criticized or attacked publicly, which has been happening too often of late. As long as the policing is done by forum administrators, rather than forum members, there remains hope.

Pete, I'd prefer it if . . . it is what it was![;)]

  6. "When it comes to engineering, actual testing often shows counter-intuitive results that seem to defy obvious logic, due to assumptions that can sometimes, but not always, be relied on.

In other words, generalizations may make perfect sense, only to prove inaccurate when tested in certain specific cases."

Yes, but will the plane on the conveyor belt takeoff?[;)]

  7. Some have tried it. The reason to do it is to see if you prefer the sound. An "improvement" in imaging has been mentioned.

Try it. You might not perceive any difference if both mids are out of phase. You probably would notice if only one of the mids is out of phase. Try to be systematic. Take notes. Please share your perceptions.

  8. well said rudy.

It would be a shame to lose anyone else from this forum. We lost Al K because he couldn't abide what he perceived as personal attacks. If everyone can leave the policing to Amy, Trey, et al the forum can continue to be the geat place it's been for many years.

If you have a problem with any forum member, send that member a PM or email and then contact Klipsch if necessary. Public name calling only makes for a hostile and unpleasant environment. It would help to praise in public but criticize in private.
