  1. I second Battista's Hole in the Wall!! http://www.battistaslasvegas.com/
  2. Carbonbite. Less than $60/year.
  3. The Pilot tuner is now in the hands of Paul, of a local audio repair shop owner. He's glad to own it. The landfill was avoided by both items.
  4. Finally, I got the speaker and tuner boxed and weighed. The Jensen heads to Calgary tomorrow. The tuner is still available.
  5. It's a horn. It uses that throat to compress the air. Open up the throat to "let the woofer breathe" and you'll have ruined it.
  6. In this case, "amateur" applies in the truest sense of the word. While it is often taken to mean the opposite of professional, it actually means "lover of" or one who does something for the love of it, not for money. It's absurd to think that someone doing this only for money would do a more spectacular job than you did for the love of the project and the result. What does your wife think of them now?
  7. I'd use Velcro dots if you want to be able to easliy remove them. On the other hand, a Paslode nail gun would hold 'em forever.[] They're outstanding!
  8. I apologize profusely for not doing anything with these. The holidays came and went and lately I've been extremely busy forcing our small business to survive the current economy. I'll soon contact everyone who before expressed interest, in the order in which I was contacted. If you're no longer interested, it's completely understandable. Although you need not contact me again, feel free to send an email or PM, whether you're still interested, or not.
  9. I don't blame you Amy. The ads are annoying but easily avoided. Speaking of annoying drug ads. Did you hear about the guy who sued Viagra? It wouldn't stand up in court.
  10. John, As usual, Gil's advice is spot on. Get what you have working before spending for new equipment.
  11. No. At least not in the manner of modern receivers. But they have good clean power and the financial risk is minimal.
  12. That's surprising. La Scalas can peel paint with a few clean watts. I doubt it's the amount of power available that's the problem. The old H/K receivers are not like the more recent H/K products. Other high quality receivers or amps could possibly work as well as, or better than, a vintage H/K x30 series receiver, but I only have personal experience with the vintage H/Ks.
  13. Welcome, The following links are not to suggest that you should modify your La Scalas. Ported La Scalas? http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/616881/ShowPost.aspx The La Scalas shown there were restored to enable the local high school band leader to replace a dead boom box to play music in the band practice room. I purchased a Harman Kardon 730 receiver on eBay so that he could have sufficient clean power to play the La Scalas loudly and clearly. Any of the H/K x30 series Twin Power (a separate power transformer for each channel) receivers, if in good condition, would suffice. My personal preference would be a tube amp, but that's much more complicated than you need at this stage of the journey. Therefore, I suggest buying a good used H/K 430, 630, 730 or 930 receiver. Try to enjoy the process as much as the result.
  14. That's a great deal. Please post some photos to make us feel even worse. I saw a similar deal on American Pickers. Either Frank or Mike was bargaining for something (a microphone I think) and the seller threw in an excellent vintage H. H. Scott amp for next to nothing. Your EV Patrician reminds me of the only time I met PWK. He was doing a demo of his 3 channel format hosted by The Stereo Shoppe at Long's Convention Center in Lansing, MI. It must have been the mid to late 70's. After the very impressive demo, he was talking informally. The conversation, like his mind, went a mile a minute. One second he was talking about the economy (some things never change) and the next he was talking about his favorite single malt (I think) liquor. I asked him about the erfforts of Klipsch to license the Klipschorn. He said that it was discontinued due to the inability of Klipsch to monitor the build quality of 3rd party builders, including EV. He then asked, "Do you know what a Patrician is?" To which I naively replied, "It's a version of the Klipschorn built under license by Electro-Voice. He immediately responded, "It's a man who steps out of the shower to take a leak." It was clear that his entourage had heard the line before. Then it was off to a new topic. The whole encounter lasted less than 60 seconds.
  15. Did you open the bass bin? Do you know which woofer it has? If you name a reasonable price you might find an interested buyer on this forum. It's good that you restored it. Good luck.
  16. Who here is old enough to rember Lou Christie's Rhapsody In The Rain? That was toned down because it was too racy for some radio stations. "Makin' out in the rain . . . in the car our love went much too far" was replaced with. "We fell in love in the rain . . . love came like a falling star."
  17. John Candy's watch in Planes, Trains & Automobiles . . . a nice Casio
  18. I agree with Tom and Mark. I enclosed the backs of 4 Speakerlab SKhorns in 1975 (used in DJ biz). It was a signifcant improvement. Beyond that, I'd go with Jubilee bass bins.
  19. I doubt it was a typo. I believe Maron is indicating it's his opinion the Khorn bass bin is not the weakest part of a Khorn. He can let us know otherwise. In any case, I would replace the K400 first, the K77 second and worry about the bass bin last.
  20. I used two of those in my DJ biz 35 years ago. They were fantastic.
  21. Hi Glenn, The best in the new year to you, Verna and Ms. Rose. How are things on the employment front? I totally misunderstood boxing day. Nancy got pissed when I punched her in the Everlast yesterday. Best,
  22. Try a PM. No email was received. Perhaps it was spam filtered.
  23. To those who've expressed interest, please be patient. I'm in the process of confirming the shipping costs to the various locations. I'll then contact the interested parties in the order they expressed interest. If those at the top of the list are still interested, they'll get them. If they're no longer interested, the next person will be contacted. This isn't an auction. Please don't complicate things by offering to pay more than the actual cost of shipping.
