  1. JC- I agree with Tom about allen head bolts. I would also use Loctite, or similar thread locker, as well as lock nuts, on the woofers.
  2. Bruce- Your check and the CD just arrived. The plans look great. Enjoy the receiver. Thanks,
  3. Bruce, It's working its way to Georgia. 1Z X69 96A 03 9532 0880 shows KNOXVILLE, TN, US 10/09/2006 6:19 P.M. ARRIVAL SCAN
  4. Six T-nuts are better than 4. I bet that thing weighs almost as much as the car in my avatar.
  5. The posts from Take5 will work, as will basic posts from Radio Shack, Parts Express, etc., at a much lower cost. The electrons won't know the difference. As to soldering, it depends. If you have a tool to properly crimp solderless terminals, then no. If not, then yes.
  6. Yea. Go Yankees. Go back to New York and keep quiet.
  7. I'm working on an audio enhancement device. It's a little known fact that too many pictures of dead presidents cause an audio room to be dead acoustically. My new device will brighten the sound of your room by removing those nasty pieces of paper. I'm going to call it WALLET VAC!
  8. I share Mike's concern about not enough T-nuts. The bottom cover will be kept in place by gravity, but the top . . . ?
  9. Glenn - Congratulations to you and Verna and the rest of the extended clan on the arrival of Katelynn. What's Katie's opinion of the sub scene from Nemo, or is to too soon for that?
  10. arfandbark-<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The 930 was impliedly included under "etc." I've got no experience with 930s, but I know that theyre more powerful and I assume that they're fine. The lower number X30 series receivers are more common, and, as I previously indicated, generally a better value when driving efficient speakers. Unless the added features are important, it makes little sense to pay much more for only a little more power. If I were offered a 930 and an equally nice version of one of its lowered powered siblings for the same price, Id buy the 930. The coffee cup was an eBay impulse purchase for $12, if memory serves. They come up on eBay fairly regularly. That ones not for sale. Decades ago I enjoyed riding bikes in and around Perry while at MSU. Isn't Perry really suburban Stockbridge? :-)
  11. Whamo asked, " . . . can you use it as an amp or preamp separately?" No. The 630 and higher have external jumpers that connect the preamp to the amp. Unfortunately, that is one of the features that the 430 lacks compared to its more powerful siblings. Another forum member has indicated that he wants the receiver.
  12. Has anyone heard from dkp regarding Sophia's cardiac surgery?
  13. JC - How will you gain access to the doghouse when they're completed? Will the bottom will be removable, similar to La Scala?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Youre doing a fantastic job. You must be eager to fire it up.
  14. Colin- <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> You Said, "The twin powered vintage HK are excellent solid-state receivers for the money, though 430s usually sell for less than $100 on eBay, 630s and 730s are more in that price range, 930s are usually more than $100, with slightly better features" I agree with everything you said except that I would change "usually" to "often," but that often does not include shipping which is approximately $35. I saw a 430 go for $197.00 on eBay, I paid $160 for a very clean 730. A good 430 for $100 is a better value than a 730 for $160. Yes there are features on the bigger versions that are absent on the 430 but the most significant difference is power. The 430 has 25 WPC, the 630 has 30 WPC, the 730 has 40 WPC, etc. The practical difference between 25 WPC and 40 WPC, especially driving efficient Klipsch speakers is essentially zero. I paid slightly more for an eBay H/K 630, but one of its features was that it only played from one channel. It cost me $35.00 to ship it back to get a refund of the purchase price. Anyone who wants a Harman Kardon 430 should jump at the chance to get one for $100 that is guaranteed to work. Ill buy all of the 630s and 730s that are guaranteed to work that you can point me to for $150 with no shipping.
  15. Please go to FS H/K 430 in 2 Channel for the details.
  16. "BTW, have YOU heard the Ionovac?" Yes. It's a gimmick. :-) Would I stoop so low as to dabble in rhetorical questions?
  17. Here is a photo that shows both receivers. As I said, they are cosmetically and operationally equivalent. The upper one is the one that I would sell.
  18. EDIT: 10-06-2006 $100 included FREE UPS ground shipping from Michigan to Georgia. The manual is attached as pdf. I had two H/K 430s. They are essentially identical. Each is in good shape functionally and cosmetically. I don't need two. Heck I really don't need even one, but I like to have one around as a backup when I'm tinkering with the primary and secondary tube gear. You know what they look like, but I'll post pics tomorrow anyway. We all know how the forum never tires of pictures of yet another Cornwall, Las Scala or H/K receiver. Marvel bought it.
  19. Harley, Bruce and BigdnFay-<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I would very much appreciate a copy of the CD with the alternative to the Speakerlab plans. If a copy can be burned I would reimburse you for the cost. Alternatively, if a CD could be lent to me I would burn a copy and return the original, plus reimburse you for postage. Please send an email or PM before sending a CD, to avoid duplicates. BTW Harley you did an excellent job. That saw was a wise purchase. I'll bet that Mrs. Costello live in the City of Lights does sound fantastic.
  20. Michael, I've seen pictures of those on the Forum. That's a more than fair price. I'm interested, but not enough (no time) at this point for you to alter any plans you might have for them. I'd be more interested in La Scala or Khorn (including Speakerlab) bass bins. If my situation changes I'll contact you to see if they're still available but don't hold them for me.
  21. Need to move pristine Cornwalls? Beater empty enclosures still offered a good home.
  22. jc-<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> As soon as I posted the offer for the CW1526s it occurred to me that you need 12 inchers. Since Ill not get around to using the CW1526s any time soon, the offer to lend them still stands. FWIW, in my past life I defended med mal cases. Now as a small business owner I avoid lawyers as much as possible. Thanks for the reassurance regarding the lingering pain. Normally free advice is worth what you pay for it, but in this case its comforting to hear that its not an unheard of situation. If I werent getting slightly better every day Id be concerned. When it became necessary to involve a Urologist to manage the kidney stone problem, my internist suggested the practice of Drs . Peters & Gonzales. When Dr. Gonzales first met with me in the hospital I was somewhat confused . . . there was nothing wrong with my Gonzales. :-)
