  1. If anyone here wants this, I could collect it and store it in our warehouse in suburban Detroit until you could arrange to get it. Ann Arbor is less than an hour from me.
  2. Gil-<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Your point about the dangers of mob violence is well taken. The episode of Twilight Zone to which you referred is: The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street written by Rod Serling (go to http://www.twilightzone.org/index2.html). There can be no doubt that individuals do things as part of a mob that they would never do if acting alone. There is another side to the anonymity offered by the group. The point of the fairy tale about the Emperors new clothes is an illustration. Individuals were afraid to risk censure from their peers, so they pretended to see what was not there. An extreme example of the majority, the good people, looking away while the few were left free to prey upon a minority took place in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Europe during the 1930s and 1940s. For the eBay seller to misappropriate Als photo without attribution was wrong; possibly not malicious, but wrong. As you know, Belles command a premium over La Scalas and Cornwalls (with which they share components) due to their appearance; they are fine furniture. Therefore, it is completely wrong for a seller to use a photo that depicts Belles that are not for sale. The photo should not have been used, period. If it was too much trouble for the seller to photograph the actual Belles (if they ever existed), the seller should have used a stock photo, such as those on the Klipsch site, and indicated it to be as such. Instead, the seller used a photo of Als home and then went into detail describing speakers that could not be those in the photo. IMHO this was a scam and it was right for the forum members to call the seller to task. The forum did not look the other way. If obvious misuse of the eBay system is ignored by those who know its taking place, the unscrupulous are then left free to prey upon the less informed. The concerted response, although exaggerated at times, was the type of response that gets the attention of eBay and those who would abuse eBay. If nothing else, the seller will think twice about using Klipsch as the focus of another scam. Now let the Hummel figurine aficionados look out for themselves.
  3. Perhaps ther seller was typing while wearing mittens (it gets cold in Harbor Springs) and an extra "9" snuck into the BIN. If not, and if that's an accurate BIN and if it's similar to the reserve, he'll be enjoying these speakers long after the auction has ended.
  4. The diaphragms need to be replaced.
  5. If someone here doesnt want these at the quoted price, theyll go to eBay. The replacement diaphragms alone would cost ~$60 (if you could find them at all). Two alnico K-77s and two BEC supplied diaphragms for $150 is a good deal.
  6. See FS Alnico K-77s in Updates and modifications.
  7. On the whole, I too respectfully disagree with Gil, but I agree that talk of physical violence was inappropriate.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Even after giving the seller the benefit of the doubt and assuming that he has two Belles to sell, he was wrong. To go into specific detail about serial numbers, drivers, etc. and not make it clear that the photo does NOT depict the speakers offered is WRONG. He deserved to be taught a lesson. FWIW, I doubt that he truly has la belles to sell. I vote scam.
  8. Rick, Where did you see this? I could check them out if anyone calls the number in the ad and is interested.
  9. But two of the ones you sold Colter look much better now.
  10. The two Alnico K-77s with open voice coils (including two replacement diaphragms from BEC)[1]shown in the photo attached to this and the next post can be yours for $150 (shipping included). If interested, send an email to me. [1] Some assembly required.
  11. He'll soon realize that he's messin' with the wrong crowd. Eh?
  12. Glenn- You were always somebody! BTW Doug Pretty was surprised when Verna told him that we'd met at Dunleavey's.
  13. Klipsch La belle speakers Are they the Patti LaBelle models that only play Disco and R&B? It's amazing how much Kitchener, Ontario looks like Salisbury, Maryland. I sent Al an email and a PM regarding this. Good work Johnny!
  14. They've been relisted and are now at $355. That's still not too bad.
  15. Klipsch La Scala's Pair, Sound Awesome! (EDIT 1/14) These might be a good deal if the bidding doesn't go crazy.
  16. Thank you very much. I had a complete set once, but one of my son's threw the contents out so that he could use the binder. He still walks with a limp.
  17. Jay - I agree with you about delaminating, but Mike speaks with the voice of experience. The nut, bolt and washer idea occurred to me. Several luckily placed wood screws could also work, but I'm reluctant to turn the thing into Swiss cheese. If temporary braces solve the problem, when installing permanent braces, I'll try to put a screw through the side panel and into the brace right where I suspect delaminating. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Mike- You are probably correct about the resonance. In any event, I expect that additional bracing will solve the problem. I'll post the results. Thanks to both of you.
  18. I'm not sure of anything. Nevertheless, the problem seems to be located in the outside panel of one bass bin. No wires are in contact with it. I took off the bottom to confirm that the woofer is tight and that the wires to the woofer aren't vibrating against the insides of the dog house or the woofer basket. If I apply pressure to the center of the panel, from the outside or the inside the bass horn, the noise goes away.
  19. I think I need to add braces to the bass bins of the La Scalas that I restored for the high school. If anyone has drawings or photos Id be grateful.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Theres definitely a vibration in the side panel on only one of the speakers. If I tap the panel it sounds almost as if theres a void or loose ply, but theres no external evidence of a flaw. Im going to experiment with braces before going to the permanent wooden braces. Whats with the search function directing you to Google? I dont think Im going to like that. I tried to find earlier posts, but had to punt.
  20. Not to worry Armando. Half the fun of this forum is the flow that these threads take on. Nevertheless, please start a new thread to identify further postings regarding your Classic(s) so that we can follow the progress.
  21. In my experience, a large rectangular room, with the Khorns in the corners on the long wall, is better than with them on a narrow wall, even if it has two good corners. It's a problem if the depth of the narrow dimension is too shallow to allow you to get far enough away from the long wall and the speakers. What you describe would be far less than ideal for anything other than very temporary. Cornwalls would be better in that scenario. Placing Khorns along a longer wall, using one or more false corners, would be better than stuffing them into a narrow cove.
  22. Travis- Best wishes for you and your new business. My wife and I took the plunge a little more than three years ago. While it's not always easy, we're glad we did it and wish we'd done it sooner.
  23. The gunfire that I heard in Glenn/Picky's HT was the most realistic I've ever heard. Open Range and Master and Commander were phenomenal. The dialogue was not overpowered, even when the gunshots were high impact.
