  1. Rick, Not really. I'm sure that some of the crud is smoke related, but they didn't smell. There were feathers up inside where the K-400 attached to the front board, but I didn't find any eggs. Not only do they look much better (never to be seen from their perches in the band room) but the networks test fine. I've attached a before picture of the other network. As the photos show, the old caps had been leaking. Thanks for your part in keeping these in circulation. As I work on them, I'm motivated by the knowledge that many hundreds of high school musicians will be able to hear lifelike music for years to come.
  2. With new caps from Bob Crites, there's light , . . . I should say music, at the end of the tunnel. They'll look even better when I replace the barrier strips on Monday.
  3. Rear view of 2nd non-Kipsch woofer. This woofer was held in by only two screws, only one of which was original and tight. One of the T-nuts was missing. The wiring to the woofer looked like it had been "repaired" by Stevie Wonder. There's a lesson here. Go through any USED speaker to be certain of it's baseline condition.
  4. Michael, I'm still thrilled with the deal and the restoration is a labor of love, but are you familiar with the story of the stone soup? Notwithstanding any of what follows, Im very glad that you sold me the La Scalas for the band. They will be much better than the Cornwalls I sort of bought. The second real K33E from Bob Crites is due to be delivered on Monday. It turns out that one cabinet had the 8 ohm Eminence (Gamma?) and the other cabinet had the speaker shown in the attached photo. It shows 6.6 ohms, i.e., its a nominal 8 ohm woofer. Bob said it doesn't look like a Klipsch item. Bob was kind enough to cut me a deal on the second K33E and some barrier strips in exchange for the two non-Klipsch woofers and $. Thank you Bob. The restoration is still on schedule for delivery on Monday. They'll not be pretty, but they'll work perfectly and they'll look much better than when received. I'll post some after pictures. This is what the inside of your lungs would look like if you hung in a bar in Ohio for 30 years.
  5. I like how Lynn humorously expressed his opinions regarding "wire," or other hot topics, without attacking the intelligence or sincerity of those holding different opinions.
  6. Lynn recently helped me by starting this thread Best type of capacitors for recapping Type A Xovers?
  7. God speed. You are a good man Lynn. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Thank you for remaining a valuable asset to this Forum. Your post of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />10/13/05 in Technical Questions, Best type of capacitors for recapping Type A Xovers? , concerning your desire to improve your system was directly helpful in my efforts to resurrect a pair of La Scalas for a high school band room. Your post led to Bob Crites, with whose generous help another generation of musicians will experience the beauty and power of music played through Klipsch.
  8. Lynn recently started this post that was directly helpful to me. It also prompted a lengthy, and generally civil, discourse. You will be sorely missed. Thank you for keeping the spirit alive.
  9. No more football this year. Lahser knocked Seaholm out of the playoffs last Saturday. I'd like to see and hear your system when its set up.
  10. I like that appraoch better than trying to integrate DRs and horns. If you need any assistance with your project, let me know. BTW, I'll let you know when it's time to lift the LasScalas to their resting places in the Seaholm band room. It might take a little longer to prep them than originally thought. Are you familiar with the fable about stone soup?
  11. This is exactly what Michael and I discovered. The "utility" vinyl clad cabinent (see photo attached above to the eighth post) will accomodate a full 12" woofer, but the walnut cabinets are too narrow across the face. It seems odd that Advent made them that way.
  12. Happy Birthday! Michael, you didn't tell me on Monday that your birthday is today. We could have ordered a joint cake at the Point Restaurant; my birthday is Saturday. At least they could have put a candle in your meatloaf. A little wax would have given it more flavor. OTOH a joint cake would be too hard to light and it would taste awful.
  13. Yes, Im still enjoying the Radio Shack drivers. Your ears should have been burning yesterday as I told Michael Colter about how you donated the drivers to my project.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Bob has earned that woofer and then some. I've been peppering him with questions regarding the resurrection of the two "abused La Scalas" I'm delivering to the high school.
  14. It's not simple but it's the best. See Record Cleaning System, Best I ever used!.
  15. It's on its way back in the box you just sent to me.
  16. If anyone here would like a 15 Eminence woofer for the cost of shipping ONLY, contact me. Rumor is that its a Gamma 15A. See Four abused Lascalas need a good home - sold (General Questions Forum) for an explanation of its history and reason for availability. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The driver has the following markings: 15CP150 151175 8 ohm 67-94490076 G1 It's in fine operating and cosmetic condition. Ill ship it in the box in which the K33 that replaced it was shipped. Photos are attached here and to the subsequent post.
  17. By all means fix 'em up if you want the experience. We're not knocking the motivation, it's just that the same amount of time and money could be invested in speakers that would be better when you're done. If you enjoy it. Go for it. Try Parts Express or Radio Shack. Don't sepnd a lot of money.
  18. Michael, I recall foam in the one we were looking at, do some of them have fiberglass?
  19. The La Scalas like the H/K 730 a lot. Definitely lease breakers. I can't wait to hear them after I've refurbished them to be almost as clean as the receiver. See Four abused Lascalas need a good home - sold
