I'd consider travelling to Chicago to collect these if I weren't going to be in Vegas all week. Soneone should have snapped these up by now.

Never Mind. BuyDig.com no longer lists the SD3960 at $49.00 with free shipping. Their site now says to call for a price. I tried to order another one today, alas, it was too good to last.

Due to the raves on the forum regarding the Toshiba SD-3950 for $49.00, I tried to buy one. A NexTag search produced no SD-3950, but the SD-3960 from Buydig.com (http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=TBSD3960) for $49.00. I ordered the SD-3960, but today I received a Toshiba SD-5970; I was charged $49.00 and the receipt says SD-3960. At the Toshiba site (http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/dvd/singledisc.asp), they show the SD-3960; MSRP $69.99 and the SD-5970; MSRP $179.99, but theres no mention of the SD-3950. Im listening to The SD-5970 through my mildly modified Dyna SCA-35 and Cornwalls; it sounds darn good for $49.00. Should I be disappointed that I ordered the SD-3960, but received the SD-5970 for the SD-3960 price? If not, Im tempted to order another SD-3960 to see what happens. If anyone else buys, or bought, from Buydig.com, please share your experience. Delivery was prompt, and I got more than expected. Neil

To be fair, it is for a pair. When I originally posted I thought it was a single, but, a revisit to the eBay site confirms that it's for a pair.

Although it has a shape similar to Khorns, it doesnt appear to have the same bass bin. My interest is purely academic. If I had $6,500 to spend on audio I could think of many things Id sooner acquire. The one time I met and spoke with PWK he mentioned that Klipsch had licensed its patents to Electro Voice (and possibly others), but that the experiment did not last long, due to Klipschs inability to control the other fabricators quality. He also stated that was why he never seriously considered manufacturing kits. That was all after Id confessed to using four Speakerlab SK-Horns powered by a Dyna ST-400 in a mobile DJ business. He said that it was better I subjected the imitations, rather than real Khorns, to such abuse.

Since this thread is still at the top, I can't be accused of responding to my own thread to bump it up. Nevertheless, it occurred to me that the appellation "Fast Newbie" should not apply to someone who is approaching three years as a forum member. What about "Slow Veteran?"

Did I miss something? Since when are U.S. and Canadian citizens personae non grata to Svetlana Tubes? When you go to their website: http://www.svetlana-tubes.com, you are invited in and then shown the door, if from Canada or the U.S. Whats the deal? Do they no longer export to U.S. or Canada?

I'm thinking of building a SETH amp. I know the SETH design is simple and not audio perfection, but I want the experience of building a relatively simple tube amp that might later be reworked. Before I invest the time, I would be interested in any feedback (pun intended) regarding the SETH amp. If anyone has experience with similar DIY projects, Id welcome that knowledge.

It's my understanding that digital FM will eventually be the universal broadcast standard. If so, what becomes of the vintage FM tube tuners? Will they still work? Will they require converters? If they still work at all, will their performance be compromised? In short, does it make any sense to tweak the old Dyna FM-3?

I had four SKs in the mid-70s. They had EV T-35 tweeters, Speakerlab cast aluminum mid-horns with Atlas drivers and Speakerlab 15" woofers. A friend built a pair of 7s. They had EV T-35 tweeters, EV mid-horns and drivers and Speakerlab woofers.

I once spoke with PWK about Speakerlab kits and the possibility of Klipsch kits. He explained that the experiment to license Klipsch designs to Electro-Voice resulted in spotty quality. He didn't want the Klipsch name associated with products over which Klipsch had little control, i.e., kits were out of the question.

If you ask for Disney in Birmingham, MI, you can call but you cant come over, unless I tell you where to go. If you were to type our phone number into the reverse look-up feature at www.infospace.com, you'd get our name and city but no street addresswhich suits me just fine. Weve kept it that way ever since. There seems to be no good reason to list your street address in the phone book. If its someone you want to see, when they call, you tell them where you live. If youre interested, we never received even a single crank call from a convicted felonand theyve got time to burnbut they dont burn in Michigan. No capital punishment. That was due mostly to the fact that your typical criminal has the attention span of a gnat. Despite the fact that my last name is Disney (not too hard to remember) none of the many criminal defendants so much as called to demonstrate his heavy breathing.
