I guess the used grocery and gas market is driving up the price of new grocery and gas prices too…i

The quoted post reminds me of Steven Wright’s line about buying used paint.  “It was in the shape of a house.”

  2. Be careful criticizing this listing.  The detailed, but largely inaccurate, information in the listing looks like the the product of the Google instantaneous superficial expertise practiced by some here.  The following is excerpted from the listing:

“ 3-Way Design: The Klipsch La Scala AL5 consists of two speaker cabinets. There is a top loudspeaker cabinet which consists of a newly-designed, highly-efficient Tractrix horn tweeter with an extremely high 109 dB sensitivity, plus a horn-loaded 2" phenolic diaphragm compression midrange driver for powerful highs and mid frequencies. The Klipsch 90° X 40° Tractrix horn's high-frequency performance creates a mammoth sound, bringing the most subtle nuances to the forefront of your listening experience.”

They look like this.  The advantages of professional photography are abundantly clear.

  3. The weather today in East Lansing looks poor for Spartans vs Wolverines. Google says high of 52 with 50% chance of rain, humidity 82%, and 8mph wind.

I doubt the weather will favor either team.  I’m reminded of an interview of Paterno after being upset by Navy in a hard rain. When the interviewer offered the rain as an excuse, Joe said, “I’m pretty sure it was raining on their side of the field too.”

Sad news indeed.  My condolences to his family.

The attached photo shows a Ford 427 SOHC “cammer.”  Roger’s avatar and forum name pay homage to the same.

Roger explained it in a post August 5, 2008, which is excerpted below:

    “Thanks!! . . .

Twisted or Roger, either is fine. I belong to several motorcycle forums as well as the Ford FE Engine Forum. TwistedCrankCammer stands for the FORD 427 SOHC Hemi engine, as I own one. To understand the rest, you would have to be a gear head as the cammer came with a forged steel crank, and factory forged steel cranks of the day were twisted between rod throws in their manufacturing process. On a cast crank, the casting line is in a straight line the length of the crankshaft. I use twistedcrank cammer on all of my forums that I belong to, as well as my ebay account name, plus you tube etc., it just makes it easier.

    Roger”

RIP Twisted from a fellow gear head.

  5. But seriously, it’s been more than a month since getting cataract surgery on my second eye, so time for an update.  I wish I’d Done this sooner.

I chose the lenses that correct distance vision only.  That decision was based mostly on the recommendations of my ophthalmologist and friends.  Apparently, a significant percentage of those choosing the dual purpose lenses still need readers.

While it’s nice to wake up in the morning and not need to immediately find glasses to see, it’s annoying to need a pair of readers always at the ready to see who’s calling.  I decided to get glasses with progressive lenses; the upper portion tweaks my distance to better than 20/20, while the lower portion corrects for reading, etc.  I’ve worn glasses since I was fifteen, so it’s not a burden.

. . . stay away from the glasses as long as possible.  Happy with that.

I just don’t like the taste from cans.

    Moby Dick by Herman Melville

Have you read it before?  I’m curious about your opinion.  I hope you enjoy it.

I forced myself to re-read that a few years ago.  I still didn’t see why it is widely considered to be the great American novel; seems to be a bit of the emperor’s new clothes to me.  To describe Melville as wordy is an understatement.  A single sentence can consume more than a full page.

I’m not saying it’s not good, or not worth reading (even more than once), I’m saying, IMO, it’s overrated.

I took the liberty of using an online translator.

“No .. I don't want to add a subwoofer .. I am owner of LA SCALA PRO and I have replaced the k43 with the k33 woofers from bob crites ... I have gained something on the low frequencies but I would like to gain a little more ... I am about to build the cabinets and ask those who have already made them if they have obtained the improvements or not.”

I know of no one who has done it and been disappointed.  If a sub, or subs, is/are out of the question, then go for it.

If you haven’t seen the thread below, it might be useful.

Good evening, i write from Italy,  i would now if the cabibet bass reflex it's a good choice or not???

    Michele.

    ...e buon ascolto a tutti;-)

Welcome.  The answer depends who you ask.  I recommend it only if you have no plans to add a subwoofer.

  10. I’m good with that also.

Just so long as my Spartans are not ranked too high.  I’d be happier if they were #11.  Young college players start to believe the polls and forget to play the opponent.  You only have to see what #2 Iowa did yesterday.

This is the one that was used for the curves I uploaded.

The fifth one I built, now being used by my son, is built around the neo version of Tang Band-W6-1139.  It works fine.  Lil’ Mike, the designer of the sub, says the TB-1139 is suitable.

I bought it open box for $50.00 from PE.

FYI my son uses his single small TH to augment a pair of Klipsch The Sixes he uses primarily for movies and gaming.
