  1. Kauai just as good if you find the right outfit. Never thought of the chocolate thing before, but it makes sense. There is a guy on the big island who grows chocolate. I called him up and asked if we could drop by and he said sure. We must have spent 6 hours with him showing us the whole process. Really quite interesting. Forgot to mix it with my coffee.
  2. You guys have me on my second pot of coffee. Killing me. Thanks.
  3. Greek coffee is fun too and probably stronger that what people talk about.
  4. Americans tend to sip an espresso like it is dainty or something. In the bars and coffee places I frequented in Italy, the majority of men drank espresso by tilting their heads back and tossing it in their mouth. One espresso, one swallow. It is actually an interesting flavor experience.
  5. @WillyBob What is the deal with Chicory anyway? My mom is from the South, but she got better. We went to see her family, and I thought it was coffee. It is an acquired taste the same way that an STD is. I am just joking, but god it was awful. My wife's family is from Charleston, South Carolina (she got better too) and her dad just loved boiled peanuts. I tasted the corner of one and was sick for days. He kept say just eat one a say for a week and you will love them. At least they have barbecue to die for.
  6. If you guys ever want a great alternative, there is a coffee farm on the big island in Hawaii called Greenwell's. Great coffee, but they were discovered and the price went nuts. But still OK for special occasion. Their Full City Roast is now $37 a pound and it used to be $22. Not sure where else to look, but real 100% Kona coffee is special. The other notable one is Jamaican Blue Mountain, whihc can be had for around $30 a bag. Very distinct flavor. Of course Amazon will deliver a pound to you in 2 days for $26. No, really, it s Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee, really.
  7. I developed my appreciate for coffee in France and Italy. There are certainly some things we do wrong, and you are dead right about not buying ground coffee. King of like buying used shoes. And no one could use one of those spinning toys they call coffee bean grinders. Not familiar with Chemex, sounds like something out of DuPont. But I agree with the French Press. I think that some drip coffee makers are up there these days if you get the right one, but for cryin out loud you don't set it up the night before and leave it sitting out. If you need filtered water, you are living in in the wrong part of the country. If your water is not good enough to make coffee what are you doing drinking it? Seattle water is so good, I would never filter it. Your choice of roast is interesting. For me, dark espresso roast changes the coffee too much. It also burns off the caffeine. Even the French roast goes too far. I like a nice Italian roast. Here's a question for you, How do you drink an espresso?
  8. The owner and I have quite the email exchange going. I told him I need to sell a few speakers first, and he said fine. He laughed his *** off about South Dakota and sait it was my fault for not getting in the car and getting them.
  9. I am enjoying my fourth cup of Starbucks coffee. People malign it, but they just don't know how to make coffee. Best damn cup of coffee in America.
  10. Did not notice this before. What an extraordinary layout. The only thing missing is a 32 inch subwoofer.
  11. I have the same sense that a lot of smart people had comments, which is what made me pull the trigger. One thing that has become clear is that I do not need a 32 inch subwoofer, but I still want to see what happens. When I a done, I will probably list one here and one on AVS just for kicks.
  12. I have no. Idea. Never heard of WTD in my life. Must be something brand new. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/171606-wtd-60th-anniversary-klipschorn/&tab=comments#comment-2174040 https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/170981-wtd-minidspdaytonberinger-usb-microphone/&tab=comments#comment-2159465 https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/169541-wtd-empty-klipsch-cornwall-cabinets/&tab=comments#comment-2127839 https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/167363-wtd-active-xo/&tab=comments#comment-2084037 https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/158628-wtd-klipsch-rb-75-cherry-monitors-klipsch-forte-2s-quartets/&tab=comments#comment-1910098 https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/74180-wtd-03-sv-art-re-pfs-dsotm-sacd/&tab=comments#comment-768395 http://www.avsforum.com/forum/24-digital-hi-end-projectors-3-000-usd-msrp/539944-wtd-firmware-3-9-mt8-infocus-7200-a.html http://www.avsforum.com/forum/37-video-processors/677971-wtd-csr-software-focus-cs1.html#post7671678
  13. It really is given the divergent topics. Frustrating that they cannot seem to upgrade the site. Plenty of hosts would take it with no limits, but this is a courtesy not a business priority. I was frustrated but we can work around it.
  14. You know when you get to your age, the hearing really suffers. As a favor, if you send me your speakers, I will tell you how they sound at least once a week.
  15. That is going to be one impressive subwoofer.
  16. What on earth is the deal with uploading pictures? It takes a 400k file and says I have hit my 2MB limit. And who has a 2MB limit these days. I guess we have vintage speakers and a vintage website. So I try to use a link to a picture, and nothing shows up. Is there some magical website where I am supposed to store photos? https://www.dropbox.com/s/nw11s3l6ka5tv2d/cf41.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/43x8x9zuww1i1rv/cf42.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/3wr3mdppntg27az/cf43.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/6bx6q1uc9kxz7gw/cf44.jpg?dl=0
  17. And by the way, the guy in Dallas with the the whitewash CF-3 for $500 called me. He still has them and is perplexed. I am too. I am sure he would sell them for $400 if anyone is in the area and wants a pair. I would paint them black and say they came that way. I can provide contact details if anyone wants them.
  18. Thanks @EPICKLIPSCHFAN the owner and I are in regular touch. They look fine to me. We are trying to figure out shipping. Then there is the pair on eBay that I could get for $1075 delivered from Florida. Tempting to try for both, but to make space and pay for them i probably would need to sell my current setup and then find a new center. There is a single CF-3 in the neighborhood, but the guy wants $400 for it. I was thinking that if I had 4 CF-4 and 1 CF-3, I would probable just have have a mismatched surround for now and have CF-4 across the front. Interesting idea. I wonder if I could get $2,500 for 3 RC-7, 2 RS-7, 2 RF-5 and the PB2 Plus subwoofer. Of course by the time they sold, the others would be gone, and we would have to use the speakers in the Kuro plasma.
  19. `Maybe you could arrange a Pony Express thing where members each took them on a leg. Of course, just like ponies, Scalas need to rest, so they would need to spend a week or so at each stop along the way. You might not see them until 2020, but what matters is that they would be safe and rested.
  20. I bought a Samsung Blu-Ray player off Craigslist for $20, and last night, the kid and I watched Lost World in the Jurassic Park series. I was unprepared for the improvement in the sound, as was the Kid. Had no idea what I was missing. So that is the last and first Blu-Ray I have watched.
  21. What if they had a war and no one showed up? Seriously I have no interest in war, and if it has any in me, it will be sorely disappointed. To borrow a line from the movie Princess Bride, if war comes knocking on my doorstep, it had best prepare to be disappointed.
  22. I made my list of CF-4 prices haphazardly when I kept finding ones that were sold and finally decided to keep track. A great place to start is the sold list at hifishark.com, but a lot of that is unsold. It is a bit easier with things like the CF-4 that sells quickly. And you have to cross reference to eliminate duplicates. Still a handy starting place. When I used to pay for the Audiogon value list, it was good too.
  23. Fine, you are making me search my memory and my hard drive. Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better. --Harry S Truman Neither a wise man nor a brave man lies down on the tracks of history to wait for the train of the future to run over him. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon. ---Napoleon Bonaparte History will be kind to me for I intend to write it. --Winston Churchill History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme. -- Mark Twain “History, in general, only informs us what bad government is.” --Thomas Jefferson “Those who understand history are condemned to watch other idiots repeat it.” --Peter Lamborn Wilson Somewhere in there I have you.
