  1. I have much more fun beating up on the kids.
  2. I got to the point, that I consider bowling on a house shot as entertainment. Even when I was competing ... I'm just going to have fun, whether I score good or not. It just a game. Not life or death. Now I am a "usta"... I usta be able to ... Caught up with some of the clients I used to serve at a center in Tucson. That was fun. I was on my way home from the Dr about my back . She encouraged me to do as much as possible, to a point ... So, I threw a few balls. Maybe not the smartest thing. When I was working on Kauai, we were the only game in town, and the bowlers LIKED oil. We ran a "fair crown". 200 was high average in the house. ... they like to gamble, too. You could walk out of a night of league bowling $1000 to the good. Just the league pots, not side bets
  3. I hate magic smoke. Selenium rectifiers are prolly the worst.
  4. as most of you have several audio systems ... do you have one that is favored? I can relate to having more than one favorite. With my R/C stuff, my favorite depended on my mood and what I want to do.
  5. Hi dtel yeah, it is pretty noisy, and you have to be able to hear an intercom at the same time. a relatively quiet shop is back there, somewhere. In HI, the shop shared a wall with the bar .... I hate karaoke. The drunker I get, the better I sound [to myself], Incentive to spend time "out in the machines". Surprising, my hearing is more acute than my wife's. I can hear the machines getting in trouble before they cause a stoppage.
  6. Hair is one thing i have over all the males is my family. Still sporting a head full of hair ---- maybe that why I can't think. Stops the lone marble from rattling... the stock market is not one of my worries. No, I am not independently wealthy. We are on the opposite end of that spectrum. Wife teaches K-4 in 2 room school. AZ teachers are too close to the bottom of the national pay scale. And I retired from the bowling industry as a pinsetter tech. I dealt with cast iron machines that were originally designed to run purely mechanically. Modified to accept some electronics ...coupled to computer scorers. Have to know a little bit of everything. Plus "greenskeeping" duties [lane conditioning]. We were responsible for making mediocre bowlers able to score like they knew how to bowl. I promise to not go off on a rant about the differences between bowlers and golfers beyond --- golfers will pay extra to play on a tough course ... bowlers don't like being humiliated by 60feet of wood and some oil. a typical "pit". that is its name sorry rambling DizRotus, glad you pulled back. My sis and bro-in-law got bit in the dot-com thing...
  7. I found it quite handy when I was flying r/c helicopters. a wee bit smaller stuff than what we are talking in this case
  8. LET has its place. Like not having the right size heat shrink. Heat shrink is best. A heat gun is the best option to use on it. I have found myself using a soldering iron... simply because it is hot and already in my hand ... ... any port in a storm, though. Whatever you need to use....
  9. Bass bin - that would be the "cabinet"? I know I don't know enough to take on a "basket case"... not yet.
  10. was looking at the Tucson CL listings ... horns and crossovers from a pair of Khorns, the ad implies no cabinets ... $750 I don't think I am up to that big a project, even if it is a good deal ... or am I?
  11. that is a pretty low bar to clear. Wife drinks Folgers at work. I think I would do w/o. She gets a little pissy if I drink all the morning's coffee. She wants a cup when she gets home. I'm not a sports fan. I do enjoy a good game. Got sucked into watching the game. Dinner coincided with half time. Who is JustinTimberlake? the only thing I know about him, is the wardrobe "malfunction" from his last appearance.
  12. I thought the scalas were a little high, too.
  13. chili is an American dish ... you want carne asada ... if I wanna blow my budget for this project ---- a pair of la Scalas in Tucson for $2000. a couple pair of Chorus for $750 up there, too
  14. I got up "late" this AM ... 5AM [we don't do DST, and I promise to not rant] usually up at 4. I keep farmers' hours. Make coffee, stoke the fire, feed the cats and go to the doghouse to make noise. It's a small house and very open. i try to be quiet. That is the hardest thing in the world for me .... so, I retreat to my little mancave. Bang on my keyboard ...
  15. I would def say she is a male. Specs look good on my sis' Sansui ... is it good with Cornwalls? as much as I enjoy audio equipment, I don't have room for a collection. I already have my "doghouse" full of R/C helicopters. I know me ...I accumulate ... I will need to exercise a lot of self-control or i will have a room full
  16. Sis was saying that the receiver had an infinity sign with a line through it .... from the pics, that would be the 2000X She told me it was ordered from Japan and didn't see action until it got to the States in '71 Needs some attention. One of the channel makes a crackling noise when you move the volume dial. Is it worth the attention needed?
  17. OK folks sis still has it. it's a 1970's Sansui 2000, matching speakers in teak, turntable and Teac reel - reel whata we got?
  18. saw a commercial that starts with "Successful people tend to have one thing in common. They read" any idea what they are selling? AUDIO BOOKS and conclude the ad with "Listening is the new reading" I think we are in serious trouble
  19. I'll be making a phone call you think I talk ... it can take an hour to say Hello and two more to say Bye.
  20. It been a LONG time since I have seen it. It isn't a straight amp. I know it's a receiver and I think it came home from VietNam with my bro-in-law. That about as much as I know atm. I'll need to talk to my sis. @Tarheel are you actually in NC? My sister is near Greensboro
  21. Sounds like you needed that coffee. these Guatemala beans are nice. Not good describing flavor/s ... but, seems more sweet than the Kenya AB preface - being new to all of this casual observation ... specifically to Heritage speakers It looks as though the preferred amplification designs are from the era the speakers were designed - with a few improvements that [theory] put forth I might have an old [70's vintage] Sansui receiver. I say "might" because it would be at my sister's... would it be worth pursuing?
  22. that look good enough to eat. anyone know how to remove teethmarks from a laptop? whenever I am traveling, I try to make an excuse to stop in Louisiana
  23. for the most of the country, it was pretty nasty in the desert SW, it has been "chamber of commerce weather"
  24. The woodchuck saw his shadow ... if that means 6 more weeks of this weather, I'm all for it. Been 70 - 80 almost all "winter'. I've been complaining to the wife, for some time, about the invasive/intrusive nature of technology today.... ...she will prolly think I've gone off my rocker when she starts seeing tube amps instead of SS.
  25. when I was up there, '82 or '83, Spenard was where the hookers and bikers lived. my kinda folks I had fun My buddy's sis and bro-in-law lived in Wasilla
