    Tragic

Wow! Very glad I saw it before this happened, there will be a very big investigation into this and I wonder if they have any way to restore any of it ... fair bit is stone but ... that's a real tragedy.
  2. A really good piece of documentation, and a very kind offer to support a DSP "dial-in". Not likely within my pay-grade, but if the Lotto every pays off, I'll be all over this.
  3. Snowed like crazy overnight ... trees and flowers just starting to bud out ... ugh. I suppose it was fate as the Flames opened the playoffs last night. Stanley Cup #2 coming home. Well, maybe?
  4. In the pics supplied by @avguytx you can also see the 2.5 mH Inductors which are also available on Parts Express and will work in your E crossovers if ... you need an excuse to get to some free shipping level! Odds are you don't HAVE TO, but if you want ... I built an E crossover including these inductors, capacitors and bits and pieces from Parts Express (no affiliation and you can find the same "stuff" elsewhere), and new 3636 transformer from Mr. Crites. They make my 1980 Heresy sound excellent. The E crossover is simple and easy to work on so GO FOR IT!
  5. Some folks, incl me, use a cable wire tie screw mount eg. from Parts Express. Allows you to screw the mount to the board, then use a tie wrap to strap down the capacitor ... don't over tighten it. This allows you to move/replace items in the future without messing with glue.
  6. There's also a set of K-horns + 1 Belle in West Vancouver (check Ebay) if you are on that side of the country! The Belles I noted before are in Quebec I think, so that covers most of the country and in between.
  7. @Kyuss_79 since you noted $7,500 Canadian ... have you checked Canada Audio Mart? Depending on where you live in our little country, there are Cornwalls, Forte and Belle Klipsch speakers plus, 2 sets of KG4 listed now. In Calgary, there are also 2 sets of KLF20 listed on Kijiji. So a few choices to pick from in the used market. Good Luck with your search.
  8. Too many choices so little time, and money! Benchmark AHB2 or a Nord setup if I had the money. My bottle returns are going to have to pick up the pace.
  9. Nesspreeso, organic palm sugar, 35% whipping cream. One per day.
  10. Having "played" around a fair bit with my music server - AVR speaker configurations, I've discovered that my ears like; 1) stereo for one or two voices and just a few instruments (think Tracy Chapman's live Stand by Me). I like the sound of someone right in front of me simply singing ... albeit incredibly so. 2) for larger groups (Pentatonix, The Flying Pickets), rock bands and up to classical with a lot of sounds from different locations, I like a variety of multi-speaker setups including DTS and "Matrix", not multi-channel stereo so much. The question is ... wouldn't it be nice if the digital metadata on the server included a per track AVR speaker config (which ones, attenuation, equalization etc.) which could be sent to the AVR just prior to the track playing? Does this already exist? I suppose implementation by separate units would require a communications channel, e.g. digital cable and a tiny bit of "code" to transfer the settings. Or perhaps I should just leave the setup in 2 channel?
  11. I thought I passed my university physics classes, but clearly I was in the beginners class and missed the Illuminati electro forces section all together.
  12. I only have 1 of the show DVD's but it has J.J.Cale and Slowhand playing together, oh I wish I had seen those two together. I saw Sonny Landreth with ... Jimmy Buffett once. Wow, he can play. That will be a good concert for sure.
  13. John, The AA schematic is in this thread (below) (and others I'm sure), from @Islander and the Crites site posted above has the values too and how to do it. 13 uF for the "horizontal" and 2 uF for the up right caps. If you take yours out you can check them with your multi meter and then go from there too.
  14. Beautiful speakers! The video by RD was great too, what a fantastic spokesperson, would love to meet him some day! At 4:23 in the video I think I saw a @ToolShedAmpsamp? Awesome combo for sure.
  15. Also suggested to add some additional screws ... yours, like my 1980's, likely came with just 4 screws in the woofer, so good idea to add 4 more. Also, while you said you weren't going to take the upgrade Kool Aid yet ... some "cheap" updates; 1) as noted above brace the back panel, 2) add a layer of insulation (I used neoprene) on the back panel ledge to seal it better, 3) you can replace the "oil can" capacitors pretty cheaply (you don't have to mortgage the house on capacitors), 4) replace the internal wiring (any length you want), again you don't have to break the bank, 5) caulk the seams, 6) tighten (carefully) all the contacts/terminal screws, 7) replace the back panel terminal posts with 5 way binding posts (ease of use, including if you still want to use bare metal). Simple changes, low cost and you will notice a difference. Of course, you can just enjoy them as is!
  16. For those using a cooling fan product e.g. AC Finity, do you find the fan noise bothersome or is all your gear in closed cabs? My Denon doesn't run hot now, but ... will be connecting a lot more speakers in the future so am thinking of buying a AC Finity, but the gear will be "out in the open" where I don't want too much distraction / noise.
  17. In 1980 with my 2nd or so paycheck from a real job (first and only company I worked for ... 40 years), I went to a small stereo shop in Edmonton (long since gone). I listened to a number of speakers I won't mention the brands. They sounded to me like listening to music in a cave. Then the sales person put on a set of Heresy. OMG. Still have 'em, still love 'em. Built my own E crossover, that's all that's changed (oh, and 5 way binding posts instead of the terminals). That's what it is about Klipsch. They sound great and they last, and you can work on them!
  18. Heresy speakers floating on air... nice stands. After you play them for a while, you might consider a capacitor update? Well purchased!
  19. Best wishes for your recovery... Listening to those Klipsch will help
  20. Donmark, welcome to the forum. While waiting for the caps to arrive I’d clean the inside of the cabinets and seal all seams. Put some sound deadening material on the walls. Mark the suspect driver with some tape and inspect it relative to the ok driver especially the terminals to see if they are loose, perhaps already done when you checked with multi meter. Clean them up and if necessary check the diaphragms see Bob Crites web site. If it’s not the caps, terminals or diaphragm ... gremlins. If you do the Super Heresy you’ll like those but you reuse the K55 so need to get this problem figured out first. Good luck
  21. Get/build a music server and rip those CDs to FLAC. I have serious attention deficit, at least I think ... oh wait a squirrel! All humour aside, wow it is so nice to jump around quickly, move within a track, across artists etc. all from that "sweet spot" avec the scotch (on ice, sorry to the purists).
  22. @Mike N, I can offer a small bit of input ... I have a Bluesound Vault 2 connected to a DacMagic Plus (via optical out of Vault) then to a cheap ($50) Chinese Class D amp into Martin Logan Clarity ... I also use the Sub out of the Vault to a Velodyne DD10 sub. Helpful input might be ... even the tiny class D amp runs the Clarity well and it is rate (I call BS) at 100 wpc. The DacMagic Plus uses Wofson Dacs which I like the sound of ... others might not. It is a simple setup and I only use about 10% of the volume scale on the Vault which is the attenuator via software. The DacMagic and the Amp are set to max volume. To your question ... I think I'd keep it simple in your costs, by keeping as much as you can and at least for me the "modern" Wolfson Dacs are nice, but each to their own in Dac sound land. The Vault 2 uses an ethernet connection (I use one of those house electrical wire converters for ethernet) and streaming seems pretty good although I listen mostly to local files (ripped from CD or FLAC other sources via the USB connect). I have done Bluetooth stream to the Vault and it works fine too. Hope that helps a bit ... not apples to apples but ... I guess I always try to keep my investment and keep incremental costs as low as possible... just me!

    Sansui Beauty

There was a 907-Limited on Audiogon yesterday, closed 5 hours after I saw it. Really nice. Don't know if it sold or just lapsed.
  24. Thanks for the price run down! I have a complete set for a Heresy clone build with son-in-law, now I know how much to charge him and in real DOLLARS!
