  1. Impossible, as a floor standing speaker would impinge on the screen. Horizontal is the only thing that will fit.
  2. Thanks for the kind words. I have a preamp-processor, and separate power amps for each channel. There is more than enough power to drive two speakers at the center. Might give it a try, just to see how it works. The two R-820F's in my secondary room might get called to action here.
  3. Instead of a dedicated center channel speaker, why not use two full range tower speakers, head-to-head? Yes, they would be horizontal instead of vertical, but I do not think that would present a problem. This would give you full range, and would have a huge positive effect on the breadth and impact of the sound stage. What say you?
  4. Bass response is mentioned in the above post. I used the processor's EQ to raise the x-over to the RC, as it sounded very boomy / muddy, especially with male voices in sound tracks. Sending the lower freq's to the towers and subs is a better option...at least in my theater setup. TV commercials were never an issue, nor recorded music (CD's). But movie sound tracks did not sound good at all. After doing the EQ process, much better.
  5. Who on this forum has done a double blind listening test between a II and a III speaker? I’ll wager that it would be hard to tell the difference, if any. I think these continual “upgrades” are more for marketing purposes than real audio improvement. All companies do this, of course. My RC-64 II blends seamlessly with my RF-7 III’s. Save your money. You will be glad you did. Go back and read some original reviews of the RC-64 II. That will answer your question.
  6. No. The RC-64 II is a great speaker. I will bet in a double-blind listening test, very few if any listeners could tell the difference between a II and a III. Actually a full range speaker would be a better choice for the center channel.
  7. We have the RC-64 II paired with RF-7 III’s. Save your $$, get the II.
  8. That is understandable. I looked at hundreds of reviews, from verified owners. 97% of the reviews were positive. Amplifier issues did not get much mention. The biggest complaints were: 1. Not enough power. 2. Boomy sound. My experience has been with the majority. Very happy with these. Would not hesitate to buy them again. In fact, after plugging one into my stereo system (R-820F's) that is in a secondary listening room, the sub blended seamlessly with the towers. With a nice extended bottom end. These do require attention to set up. Cross over settings, gain settings, and room placement are critical, and will make these shine, or make you use four letter words!
  9. Try the R-12SW. We bought two from Costco, at $169 each. No problems at all. Great for LFE in movies, and pretty decent on straight music also. If you don't like them (you will), just take them back. I also have a K-100SW. No issues. Works perfectly.
  10. We have dealt with FedEx for many years. Never had a bad experience, or a damaged shipment. On the other hand, there are a lot of less than reputable sellers on Ebay. Ask me how I know! Get a full refund. Then make your purchase from a reputable dealer. I learned the hard way. Every speaker in my house, those that are not built in wall or ceiling speakers, 24 total (18 Klipsch), were all purchased online from a legit dealer. All shipped via FedEx, or UPS. Never had any problem. Not even a scratched box. Buying on Ebay raises red flags.
  11. Yes, more than decent. Way more, in fact! Proper tuning is the key. Gain, x-over, and location will make this sub perform way beyond it’s entry level cost. In a pure music application, it rendered a very good performance. For someone who is only looking for a LFE solution, the R-12SW will happily do what you want it to. Again, there are more capable subs available, at a much higher price point. It’s a matter of diminishing returns. At $250, I would rate this a a good value. At $169, it is an absolute steal!
  12. Okay...these arrived yesterday, so this is a quick and dirty first take. In the theater with these at the rear of the room (4 subs total), while playing Saving Private Ryan 4K, the bomb blasts rolled through the entire seating area. Much more impact and visceral feel than with only 2 subs up front. The explosions could be felt, much more realistic than before. In a stereo music setup, with two R-820F’s, the sub is impressive. It goes deep. It also adds impact. My music choice is big band jazz, and classical orchestral CD’s. Playing Matt Bianco featuring Basia, the bass line is smooth and tight. This CD has a bass that is prominent and well recorded. You can hear the kick of the bass drum, and you can feel the bass strings being plucked by the musician. The largest compliment I can give is when the sub is playing, you do not actually notice it. But remove it from the system, and there is immediately a big hole. Something is obviously missing! The secret is subtle integration with the main speakers. You must tweak the x-over and level controls for it to be seamless. It is easy to “over drive” a sub to where it becomes boomy. Yes, you can spend $$$ and get a better sub. But you will not get anything that even comes close for $169! Am I happy with my purchase? Is the Pope Catholic?
  13. The two Klipsch Subs arrived yesterday. They are placed in the rear inner corners of the room, angled out at a 45 degree angle, pointing at the sidewalls. Saving Private Ryan (4K) was loaded up, and I began to do a crude initial evaluation. The bomb blasts were all enveloping, with the sound traveling in waves across the seating area. Much more effective and more impactful than with dual subs. Have not tried these with music yet. It seems that my music videos and CD’s do not trigger the bass / sub output signal from the preamp. But movies certainly do. One R-12SW will be moved to another stereo system to check for response on music. So far, I am very pleased. This is money well spent! For those interested, a short review was posted under the Subwoofer section of the forum.
  14. The K-100SW is pretty small. I have this in a secondary audio system. A decent sub at an incredible price. Paid $139 at Newegg. https://www.cnet.com/products/klipsch-k-100sw-subwoofer/
  15. I think the entire line of Klipsch Subs are on sale, not just the R-12SW’s.
  16. “Lack definition and clean punch”...that statement might apply to a good many subs on the market today. I have not been a sub woofer fan, but subs are all over my house, even in the family room built into the walls. My recent addition of the K-100SW showed that even an inexpensive ($139) can work if used properly. This is used in a small room, and the gain is around 30%. It really adds a musical bottom end to my R-820F’s. Yes, if I crank it way up, and over drive it, the sound can get a bit boomy. But that might happen with a lot of subs. Like I stated earlier, you don’t even notice the 100SW...until you turn it off. Then there is a definite hole in the music. Something is really missing. That is a compliment to the 100SW. A decent performing “budget” sub. The reviews cited were from Costco, all verified customers. Many of them were upgrading from a 10 inch sub, or from another brand. As a musician, music has always been placed as a first priority, with video taking a back seat. Value has been a consideration also. Best “bang for the buck”. At this price point, $169, it is unlikely anything on the market would perform as well. Not without spending two, three or four times the price. My front subs (2) are from Madisound. 12” speakers. Powered by external B&K amps. I built these subs from kits. If the R-12SW fails miserably, it will be returned. Stand by for a full review after they arrive.
  17. I have a 30 day return option, if they don’t work out. Based on the reviews I fully expect these to be more than adequate. They are simply going in the far back of the room for added bottom end. These will not be used for music, only movie LFE. Of 2100 reviews of the R-12SW, over 2000 rated it 4 or 5 stars for overall satisfaction.
  18. My decision was made based on the experience with a K-100SW. It is paired up with R-820F speakers, and it is an amazing addition. Clean, smooth bass extension. This is a secondary audio system in a spare bedroom, so we did not need a large sub. Picked this up for $139 from Newegg. The best compliment about this K-100SW is you do not notice it being there, until you turn it off. Then it’s like...where did my bass go? I figure the R-12SW will perform as well, or better. These will serve as the rear subs in my theater. The front subs are from Madisound, kits that I built. Money is an object. My entire speaker system is all Klipsch, with the RF-7 III’s being up front with the matching center channel. All surround channels are Klipsch, with Dolby Atmos. And the WAF figured in. Reviews? Out of 5 Stars, this was rated an average of 4.7 by 93% of owners. Certainly you can get better performance, but when price ($169) is factored in, there is nothing that can beat it.
  19. The R-12SW Sub is on sale. I just bought two of these, for my theater. Costco has them for $169, with free shipping. Klipsch has them for $199 including shipping.
  20. Ordered a pair of these to augment my theater sound system, for a total of 4 subs. Costco has them on sale for $169, and free shipping. Or you can buy direct from Klipsch for $199, free shipping.
  21. Yes, the room is about 25’ X 28’. Budget? As little as possible. The R-12SW’s are on sale...very reasonable. Being happily married, my goal is to stay happily married.
  22. Here is a link that will show the RF-7 III’s.
  23. My theater is all Klipsch, with 11 speakers. Dolby Atmos surround. The front subs are from Madisound. I’m looking at a pair of R-12SW speakers for the rear subs. They would go in the rear corners of the room, at the back wall. Including the 4 subs, this would have 15 speakers total.
  24. My theater has 2 subs up front. Would adding a pair of subs at the rear of the room be any benefit? My pre-pro has dual sub outputs, so these would need a Y adapter to make work.
  25. I'm in the DIY, "paint your screen" camp.
