  1. Hi Folks, Helping a friend to consider these due to their reasonable cost and what seems to be decent value for the $. Would love to hear from any members currently using the latest Forte IV speaker model paired with 60w Quicksilver Mono 60 type tube amps, or lower powered Pass amps, like the Pass XA-25. Friend owns both of these amps with a nice 6SN7 tube preamp. Buddy is considering looking to try higher efficiency speakers. I've been sharing how members here have decades of experiences. And if lucky maybe some trying the former II, III models, or upgraded to Forte IV, and up and down the Klipsch stack too. He might visit here later. Okay so what's the question - best I can ask for him is this: Question - Have any of you here on the Klipsch community forum moved from higher cost speakers (other brands or Klipsch) to the new Forte IV model speakers? -if so what did you move from, to the new Forte IVs? -what do you like more / less about the Forte IVs? -or, any other thoughts or inputs to share about Forte IVs? Anything you can share would be appreciated. While I've heard larger Altec and other Klipsch models myself, I've never actually heard the new Forte IVs with a good tube amplifier setup, or even a really good SS amp setup. In this case, these seem like a really nice size speaker for my buddy and specs look good on paper. Who knows more.. just helping a friend, maybe . Thanks in advance for your replies. Happy Listening.
  2. To: Members with Quicksilver amps and new versions of Klipsch Classic speakers, please chime in to help a friend: This audio friend is a few states away, and he recently bought RP-600Ms to play with (in the mean time). Says they are too forward and a bit too edgy on either of his QS tube amps or spare (laid back) Adcom mosfet solid state amp too - even with a nice tube DAC. We all hear differently, but kinda surprised. I'm a QS amp owner myself, and they are not edgy sounding amps (not at all) even with prior unmodified Klipsch RP speakers I've tried myself. Trying to get this friend to look closer again at the NEW Forte IIIs. I build my own custom speakers myself, and almost tempted to go grab a pair of Forte IIIs myself just to prove it in any case. You could save some time, $, effort with your replies. Issue: He's thinking the new Forte III will be forward and edgy with a similar sound as the RP-600Ms. I know folks here can share opposing thoughts with experience, and maybe some with QS amps. . I referred him to videos and links to try and help explain the new Classic Series Forte III speakers are totally different speakers, revised, SMOOTHER now... He's using: Quicksilver Line Stage TUBE Preamplifier and Quicksilver Mono 60 TUBE amplifiers. Currently equipped with stock JJ KT88 output tubes BUT, with quality small vintage input/driver tubes to tame it down. It's close to "tubey" smooth as it gets for relatively stock amps. Target: His budget is right at $4k, the price of the new Forte IIIs. Sure would be bummed for him to overlook these new Forte III speakers without consulting with Klipsch subject matter experts here on this forum first. Thanks in advance... Knowledge or advice anyone?
  3. SOUND? Any takers - Great, read through most of this thread back to December - lots of talk about physical design and components changes. Noting new cabinet, porting, all new drivers, elevated cost, etc...okay. I see they ran them with a Cary SLI-80 at RMAF, I had one, the amp is no slouch with efficient speakers. Wondering if anyone has actually broken them in for a while and listened to them with a few different amplifiers and compared to former models, H3. As a former professional and later hobbyist speaker builder, this is a completely different speaker now from what it seems. >>Comparing to H2, H3, what's DIFFERENT about the SOUND - for better or worse<< -High Freq? -Midrange? -Mid Bass? -Lower Bass? -Sound Stage? -Tone change? -other? ???
  4. I liked my Inspire Hot Rod amp. Yours looks nice with the preamp all together. Good luck on the sale. Would have been nice to hear my Inspire amp with proper speakers. Unfortunately my speakers were not efficient or matched well enough at 93db and 4ohms. Gotta taste of what it could sound like, sort of. It would be fun to compare differences with Quicksilver Horn Monos / Mid Monos too. These sold a while back on USAM for a great price and missed them. Amazing value. The small foot print of these amps is nice.
  5. Hi Les, Yes, enjoying the Mono 120s. A new flavor with some NOS Mullards in 12au7 spots, very nice. And the manual bias, 50 down to 40ma per tube helps the sound stage position. Strange thing is I live 45 minutes from QS. Overlooked Mike and QS for a decade too long. Finally wanted something with simple design and reliability. A local buddy here just tried the QS preamp and now looking at picking up a set of the latest version Mid Monos. Great value. Another converted supporter, late to the game but finally made it here. ..
  6. Does the latest version of the Klipsch Heresy speaker sound (better or any) different than the original version? How so? I'm looking for a smooth and warmer tone sound, and I've not yet heard the new version Heresy on a really good SET/Triode tube amp before. I'd like to find a good match for my current custom built 10w single-ended-triode amp, with a smaller speaker about the size of the Hersey. I'd love to try a set of the new Heresy speakers, but if they sound like the originals, I'm not a fan of a "PA" type sound at all. I tried a set of the 2016 Klipsch RP-160M bookshelf monitors and recently re-sold them, nice but not the right match. A rep told me to try the brand new Heresy speakers instead. I'm curious if anyone here has liked the new Hersey version a lot more, or can explain how it sounds different than the original version. I'm afraid if I bought a set and they sounded to "PA" like, I'd fine myself wanting to mess with the crossovers, caps changing until I could get the tone smoothed out a bit more if they sound like the originals. Any feedback from the folks here on the tube forum?
