Thank you for sharing this. For some reason I didn’t get a notification of your reply. How does this wire up? and is there something in the receiver menu that needs to be toggled on/off when going from the internal amp to the external? I’m assuming the switch box is wired into the Marantz L&R pre-out. It really sounds exactly what I’m wanting to do. Using the Marantz as the Dac/preamp, is the volume controlled by the Marantz or the amp. I have yet to hook my tube amp up as it can be easily damaged from misuse, not warmed up or just left on as I’m sure you know. Do you use an EQ at all by chance. Thanks-Mike.

Sorry, I've been away from this for a while.

Yes, you simply use the Marantz L&R preouts. Volume is controlled by the Marantz. I don't use an eq per se, but I do use the Audyssey room correction. You can turn it off by using switching to Pure output.

I’m only using f8 for midrange( >400hz) my guess is that the xa25 would have better punch in the bass. But I’ve never compared…0verall the sound is similar in the mids, but id take the F8 (or f3) as the  winner, excluding bass.

...with La Scalas? I only ask because I'm currently using a Dennis Had Inspire SEP amp...which I love, but the Pass bug has grabbed me.

Got a F8 hooked up. OMG!  I find it both smoother and clearer than my F3 and Xa25.  Somehow it is more transparent than the xa25, but smoother.  Clearer and more aggressive than the F3, but just as smooth, or smoother.

this is better in all categories for my system. Did just what I wanted, smoother, but more clear and transparent at the same time.

How punchy is it compared to the xa25? I listen to a lot of music, including a lot of 70s British rock.

  4. Hi all--I just took delivery of a pair of RB-5 IIs in Cherry--cabinets have some wear, but that's salvageable. Both tweeters work. Both drivers work, but one looks like it took an impact. Cracked plastic on all four screw mounts. The driver fell out. So if you have an extra laying around, I'd love to buy it from you. I think they used these in the RS-7s, too.

    (Ironically, the grills were flawless)

  5. Here's the shitty part--those are the first LSIIs to show up for sale within driving distance of me in, well...forever. Don't remember it ever happening.
And I just bought a pair of '85 La Scalas locally because those never come up for sale around here...and Dean is making my new crossovers THIS WEEKEND.

    ARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
