[Please Decode This Forte II label?]

I thought we were supposed to decode the Serial Number, not the P number?

Original owner says he bought these in 1989, but it looks like they were built in 1990?

I moved to San Diego from Kansas City in 1990, and I'm never going back. 

Pete's right, do the math, list the pros and cons, then make your decision. 

Get a serious salary, because everything's more expensive out here. If you can afford to buy a house, or even a nice condo, do it. You will never lose money over the long haul on California real estate.

Crossover's fine. Disassembled the speakers, woofer is fine, but neither tweeter budged the test meter. 

Thing is, the links you posted list replacements for the RS-7 as being fabric, but what I pulled out of my RS-7 looks like this:


And yep, one of the voice coil wires had separated.

And what are the impedence settings for each speaker? I know it's 8 ohms for the whole thing, but what should the impedence be for each cone?

Thanks--I assume by "network" you mean the crossover? 

Connections and wiring inside the speaker cabinet are all fine.

I was using a pair of RS7s as front mains in our new house until we could purchase a pair of bookshelf speakers for our family room (RF-7 IIs didn't work in the room--they are now happily chugging along in my home office). Just picked up a pair of RB-61 IIs for the mains, and decided to use the RS7s as front height speakers for a 5.1.2 setup. 

But when I re-ran Audyssey EQ, there was a distinct lack of treble coming out of the right RS7, so I took it down, grabbed a tone generator, pulled off the woofer, and tested each speaker beyond the crossover. Woofer was fine, but only a faint signal coming from one tweeter, and nothing coming from the other. When I put the system back together and hooked the tone generator up to the binding posts, I only got sound from the woofer. 

I then dropped an email explaining the situation to Klipsch support. 

I've never really cranked these speakers up. 

Questions:

Is this a known issue? 

Has this ever happened to you, and what did you do to solve it? 

Does anyone know the model number of replacement tweeters for the RS7 and where to find them? 

Could this be a crossover issue?

And if the RF7s in front aren't that great an idea, should I just put a pair of KL-7502s in the ceiling up front? But then there's still the "tweeter pointing in the wrong direction" issue. In-walls are a no-go, because we'll likely have bookshelves on either side of the chimney.

Just bought our first house! Kind of a unique setup for the family room/home theater--have an idea how to do it. 

Pics of the room below. Dimensions are 18'x16'. Thinking 5.1 instead of 7.1, given that the couch will be against the back wall, and with only one side wall, was planning an in ceiling install for the surrounds. Fronts will be a pair of RF7s on either side of the fireplace (for stereo music listening as well), and an in-ceiling center. 

Can't use my trusty old RC7 on the mantle because it's just too damn big and would stick out too much. Plus, we'll be lowering the mantle and mounting a 75" Vizio or TCL above it, so there won't be room for it without mounting the TV too high.

Here's the sticking point: would the slope of the vaulted ceiling ruin any directionality for a center channel, i.e.:--no tweeters pointed directly at my head? 

Will use another KS-7502s or CDT-5800-C II. I'd go with the KS because one tweeter would be directed back at the listening position, and the second tweeter would bounce off the chimney. With the CDT, I'd be able to aim the tweeter, but probably not enough, given the slope of the ceiling. 

Surrounds will be a pair of the KSs or CDTs. 

Will these match the RF7s? I'm willing to take a little bit of a hit on my seamless front soundstage to avoid using the RC7, but am I just fooling myself? 

Sub will be an original HSU Research VTF-2.

Just popped in here, because I'm about to move to a house where I may not have room for my Reference 7 (RF-7s, RC7, 4x RS7s, Hsu Research VTF-2 Mk1) system. 

Really upsetting.

May just set them up in a bedroom. 

But I wanted to thank Dean again for the RF7 crossovers--from around 2003. Still sound sweet as hell.
