Right? It’s great to finally have the sound I’ve been looking for fully. That is to say, all the sound. Whats been a bit surprising to me, is that mine isn’t exactly in a small space. My home is a ranch with the “open floor plan”. So my Living room(where my main system is setup) opens to the kitchen/dining room and a hallway that goes to the bedrooms. So it’s not exactly ideal for low frequencies. But this thing is just perfect. Being a DIY guy at heart, and seeing as I have to always be working on something. I may build a second. Just because. Lol I’ve also got a buddy that heard it and wants one. He seemed serious, so if I help him, it will be the perfect time for me to build another. These Super Heresy with a TH sub may be the best bang for your buck system you can get/make. People will have to get their hands a bit dirty, but it’s really not difficult. Especially as everyone in this thread can attest to. When I picked these Heresies up, they were just a good deal, that I didn’t wanna pass up. I never intended them to be my Main Speakers. Just wanted to help the bass out a bit, as I was already going to do the Crossovers. Found this thread, and decided to give it a whirl. As all the detail was there, this didn’t seem like some half cocked “mod”. Because it wasn’t. Claude did his homework. After each step, the speakers just came more and more alive. So luckily they weren’t relegated to my basement full of speakers, to spend life waiting for me to get to them. They live on. Anyone out there just scanning this thread, contemplating this mod. Do it. It’s way cheaper than buying new speakers, and gets you a set that hang with the big boys. Toss a Good sub in the mix, and quality amplification and rock out!

@DizRotus....so you finally heard the Jube’s?!! Aren’t they crazy good!? Man, the image they throw is killer! I cant wait to hear what @ClaudeJ1 puts together for his next system. We’ve talked about it, and it sounds like it’s gonna he silly good. hopefully the 3 of us can get together after the holidays. Would still like to meet ya, you know how busy life gets though. After a few days with my new love, the TH sub, I’m just beyond thrilled. I’ve now used it at different crossover freq’s Between 45-60 with my SH’s, a set of Boxak B-4005 Symphonies and some Altec Valencia’s. Its taken music listening to an entirely different level. This isn’t just about the low end either. It’s transformed the entire spectrum. Adding detail and realism that’s hard to believe. The music seems “faster”, more rhytmic and Drums are as good as I’ve ever heard. I did manage to do a bit of Movie watching with it, just a 2.1 setup. Watched the beginning of the Swordfish blue ray. A clip I really like to “test” a system with. Wow...just wow. Things in my house shook that I didn’t even know were there. Lol yet smooth smooth smooth. Just effortless. Which is what this design does. The TH sub will remain with the Super Heresies, and I’m contemplating picking 3 more Heresies up to make a 5.1 System with. Probably just leave the other 3 as is. Use the SH as fronts. I need to get my Home Theatre Back up and Running. Been very focused on 2 channel analogue and Tubes the last year or so. So the HT got put on the back burner. Hello Fellow Klipscheads! Been awhile sense I’ve posted. Anyway, wanted to report back after a few months with these Super Heresy’s. I’ve now had ample time to really listen and get to know these SH’s. im still thrilled, anyone debating it...just do it. Spring for the tweeters too. You won’t need another set of speakers ever. Well, unless you have the sickness.lol like me and most others here. what prompted my post, besides feeling it necessary to report back on such an AMAZING MOD, is I recently, with much help for @ClaudeJ1, is I Built a Tapped Horn “Coffee arable” subwoofer. It’s big, and it’s bada$$! So my system is a Thorens TD-124/SME3009/A Maverick tube DAC I’ve modded to all getout, into my MX-110z, feeding a couple MC240’s, strapped for each SH(overkill I know). This sounded stellar prior to the TH Subwoofer. Ive also obtained a few very good sets of speakers, Bozak Symphonies, Altec Valencia’s, And some others. All great speakers. But none with the amazing sound of the SH. With the addition of the TH sub. I’m floored. Maybe This system is done?!! Could it be....I’m actually satisfied??!!! Lol well yeah. I can’t recommend this approach enough. The sound is REAL. The band/singer is in my home, with the MOST effortless sound I’ve heard. The Drums....oh man. I realize there are better systems out there. However, not by much. I’ve heard a lot of gear, by no means all of it. But I go through a lot, and work on a lot. This is about as as good as it gets. I’m gonna get started on restoring the Valencia’s. However, no hurry now. I couldnt be happier. if you’ve got some Heresies, just try the mod. Yeah it’s a bit of cash, but what you get will rival anything out there with the edition of a competent amplification/subwoofer. Like the Coffee Table sub. I need to do some finish work on the sub, to make my Fiancée happy, but I’m just gonna listen for now. ill post some pics soon. This community is a great resource, with guys like Claude helping out and donating knowledge. I’m one happy Camper, Merry Xmas to me! Lol also, Merry Christmas to Everyone of you in Klipschland! Ok, I guess I’d missed that you were using a 3654, however, it doesn’t matter. For this purpose it’s the “same” as a T2A, as the Taps are 3db increments. While the materials and construction are better than a T2A, the adjustments will remain the same. You would add the 2mic cap on whichever speaker you jumped up a tap. This will retain factory x-over specs while making the respective driver 3db louder.

@ishwash the E2 network absolutely has the T2A autoformer. I just re-checked the Schematic, Incase I was remembering wrong from mine. It has it. Also, please take @ClaudeJ1‘s advice at face. He WONT steer you wrong. He has incredible knowledge and talent with all electronics, Speakers especially. He knows what he is talking about. As a perfectionist myself, it’s what drew me to want to meet and work with him. It’s been quite the rewarding experience. I’m quite good with audio stuff, if I do say so myself. So I’m a pretty good judge of abilities, @ClaudeJ1’s are second to none. He doesn’t put stuff up if it isn’t right. You should really just follow his recipe. If not, nothing you do is really relevant to this thread. You’re trying to re-invent the wheel here. There is a SOLID, tested mod. Not sure why you keep trying to do it differently. No offense, but it’s just confusing to people who may wanna use the tried and true methods. The ONLY differences between a Klipsch E and E2 Crossover network is the Inductor is 2.5mh vs 4mh, and the Woofer leg gets a 33uf cap in the E2. Otherwise they are identical. Just for anyone who may read this thread, so they’re not confused. If its a Heresy 1, Jump the taps 1 spot for the tweeter and mid, double the caps from 2 to 4uf on the mid and tweeter. Reverse the polarity of the mid. Screw a Delta Pro12a in, and out the port in with some acoustic foam lining the cab, and away you go. if it’s a 1.5 LEAVE THE X-OVER as is (replacing old caps with nice new Poly caps of the SAME value), swap the mid polarity, drop a Delta Pro 12a in. Line the cab with acoustic foam, put the port in and boom! Done. For either version, the Tweeter upgrade is mucho recommended, but not totally necessary. Or just add it later as funds open up. THATS IT. We’ve built this bridge, or Claude has, I should say. No reason to try other things, when something works well. There’s not much more to squeeze out of the Heresy. My SH’s compete with almost anything. I’ve had them against B&W’s costing 5 times the price, SH won. against Vandersteen 2c’s....SH by a mile. My wonderful Bozak 302a’s with Tobin Mods. SH’s edge those out too. Cornwall 1’s with Crites x-over upgrade, SH won. i could go on and on. No, the SH isn’t the best speaker ever, but it does what it does really damn good. Hangs with speakers WAY more $. Has that WONDERUL Klipsch sound we all love, just improved upon. Ive tried them with 10 different amps, they sound good on all of them and a plethora of music styles. Oh and it’s not a “these are MINE so they’re better, the other gear I mentioned they beat out, are also mine. Ok, I think you get my point. i don’t meant to sound rude, but just do the SH mod already. You have what’s needed. Just do it, sit back and enjoy. Ya know?

I hear ya on the tweeters, no pun intended. Honestly, I ran mine for about 2 months prior to replacing the tweets. While it was the “weak” spot of the mod, imo, I’m only 38. While I’ve been to hundreds of live concerts and shows, I guess my hearing isn’t so bad as I thought. I’m also incredibly anal, but they sound great with just the woofer and x-over mods! Well enjoy! Oh and Stevie is one of my faves and get LOTS of rotation time in my system. Live at Montreaux is one of my favorite albums ever. Regarding the Veneer and Cabs, I don’t blame ya. It’s about the sound, not the look. And reveneering caninets(correctly) is both time consuming and requires specialized tools and skill set, or paying someone a lot. I’m surprised the speakers people pay me to reveneer sometimes, or even recap. It’s more than they’re worth sometimes, I tell them, but they want it anyway. Nostalgia is a strong drug! I’m addicted myself. Lol Thus the circa early sixties setup I run. I long for a time I didn’t live through, sipping cognac in my smoking jacket and listening to good jazz through Mac tubes and Klipsch Heritage. Match made in heaven!

@Oicu812, glad to hear your another happy usernof @ClaudeJ1‘s SH converts. Aren’t they great???!!! What tweeter did you use?? i had a set of Cornwall ones I restored for a customer at the same time I did my SH’s(even before the tweeters and rock star lens’). I like the Heresy just as much, I’d done the Crites crossover mods to to the Cornwall 1’s and reveneered and restored, strengthened the cabinets. They were greats but for the bigger size and price tag of a Cornwall, I’ll take a SH any day. Though I am interested in a Modded Cornwall. we have similar music tastes, I love me some classic rock And good 60’s/70’s singer/songwriter stuff. Also a junkie of everything from bluegrass to jazz to classical. Jazz with these is killer, Stan Getz hangs out in my living room every night if anyone ever wants to come see...err, hear him! well, enjoy!

All I can say, is if the Mid looked as cool as the Tweeter, well wow. Not sure I could handle that much cool! Lol I will say, I don’t think I’m gonna mess with the current formula much. Perhaps there are more benefits somewhere to be had. However, I think I’ve come to a “these rock” point. I’m not sure any more would be worth the cost. I did have quite the scare this morning when one of my Mc240’s threw a Telefunken 12AX7 tube, causing the bias to run away, and a RCA 6L6 Blackplate to start glowing like a toaster!! Fortunately I was watching like a hawk as they’d just been turned on. I was able to shut the amp down within seconds, popped a new Tele AX7 in and I was off into Music land again. could’ve been a lot worse, the sound was not one we like to hear. Fortunately the SH’s were spared any injury. My rig is singing again, and I’m out a rare tube. Coulda been worse....that’s for sure. Im still enjoying these speakers a lot. Running with all controls absolutely flat, the sound is ful all the way through. Someone mentioned a big sound earlier....couldn’t agree more...though my imaging is fantastic. Unreal infact.

I’m just quite confused and had a beer or two...so I’m a bit loose. but what are you trying to say dude? “Degradation Process”, I’m not sure what Anyone said gets degraded? However, from what I can summize from your quoted “comment”. Is that your wondering about which of the tweeters you have available to you, that you should choose to use. I mean I think after seeing the performance numbers of the K77, you would use the CT-125’s? Right? I mean if you have them. Also, the horn lens and b&c 120 tweeter are “drop in”. I mean to quote one of my favorite movies “like a GLOVE!!!” Seriously, @Dave A has a hell of a product. Im not easily impressed, just how I am. I’m usually let down by the quality of modern things. Not these Horns, I’m sure I’m near annoying about them by now, but Wow! So nice. Anyway, so you could go that or a similar route. Regarding your questions about “either” being “boosted” 3db. I think what you’re asking is should you jump the taps on the T2A for the Mid and Tweet like @ClaudeJ1‘s original recipe. Seeing as he used a set of Heresy I. My opinion is “sure”, try it. It’s easy enough to do, and switch back if your handy with a soldering iron. Just remember to double up on the caps to 4uf if you do, and back down to 2 uf if you find it too “hot”. Only you can decide what sounds best. And for the price of 2 extra 2uf Dayton Poly Film caps,$4, you can’t go wrong. Having extra caps is worth it anyway. If you find the neither setting is just right. You could try the Crites autoformer that has 1db steps. Idk though, I don’t think you’ll need it. If I were you I would follow Claude’s recipe for the original SH to a T. Using your CT-125 tweets. Unless you wanna spring for the B&C. Which I now HIGHLY recommend and will use on any further builds. Even if you need to wait a bit and save for them. Good Luck!

For clarifies sake, I’m going to explain the exact config of my Super Heresy 1.5’s. IMHO, if you have 1.5’s this is what should be done. Move tried virtually every possible config. This sounds best, both via measurements and my ear holes. ok. Your parts list will be as follows: 4 x’s 2uf Poly Film Caps. (I used Dayton 5%. I’ve used more expensive in the past, and see no reason anymore. The Daytona are great and sound NO different to me than audyns, solens, etc. I’m not cheap either, if it’s worth it I’ll spend it in a second. Put the money elsewhere. Imo) 2 x’s 33uf PolyFilm 5% Dayton Caps 2 4 inch ports 2 packs acoustic eggcrate foam from Amazon. You’ll only need 1 and 1/2. So you’ll have some extra for other projects! 2 Emince Delta Pro 12a woofers 2 B&C DE120 super tweeters 2 new tweeter horn lenses. My choice are the ones I have pictured from@Dave A ****In the near future it may be better to use the new neodymium Magnet woofer @cluadej1 has his eye on. i also recommend cutting a new back panel from thicker Baltic birch ply. I used 3/4in. Painted black. this does a few things. First, saves the original backs and serial number labels. It also strengthens the cabinet. But you don’t have too. FYI, a 2 x 4 piece of Baltic birch is like $18 at the Depot! You’ll have a bit to spare even. also, match the polarity of the Mids to the Tweets. Then it’s as easy as, cut the hole for the port, install it, transfer over the speaker terminals(I upgraded them) Solder in the new caps, it’s an even swap. NO CHANGES, just refresh with modern caps. An improvement was heard just doing that, with no changes. Bolt your nice new Woofer in. Using 8 bolts, not 4. The Delta is like 20lbs heavier. Solder and Mount the tweeter. listen to music and enjoy! It can easily be done in an afternoon with this recipe all laid out. Dont forget to mount the port in a corner, as it will interfere with the woofer magnet in the middle. It will basically block the port. Placement is up to each persons room limitations and choice. However after extensive real room testing. On the floor on original angled risers gives the fullest, smoothest sound. As @ClaudeJ1 has said, Bass is easily adjusted by moving the speakers in or out from the corners a bit. Well, hope this clears it up. Let me know if I can help with anything.

No Sir, the 33uf cap is in. It was tried both ways, and the response was better WITH it. Each crossover configuration we tried was tested with and without it. Both original 33uf caps were replaced with new PolyFilm caps.

So great to hear youre happy!! Crazy how "different is different" to qoute my good buddy @ClaudeJ1, again. Because mine are not "hot" at all. With all tone controls "by-passed" and out of circuit, running flat. They are so perfectly balanced its funny. The bass is easily controlled by bringing them in or out a bit. Mine are at the present time positioned on the floor, on their risers only. They are about 8 inches from the back wall, and 8 in from the side wall. Toed in at about, oh idk....20-25 degrees. Maybe a bit more. Im about 11 feet back, and theyre about 12 ft apart. This positioning gives me "Super" bass. Punchy and Deep. I can pull it out a bit and lower it on bass heavy recordings. Hey, its better than using tone controls and mucking up my signal path! lol The off axis performance of these tweeters is insane! I think if you play around a bit with positioning youll get em where you want! Good luck! Thats the fun part. I also hooked mine up to an 9 watt per channel set tube amp, they rocked hard with that. Didn’t measure, but some serious db’s. gonna try em with some 35 watt amps Claude let me borrow, and my Denon AVR990. See what they sound like with Audyssey. but they’ll remain with the McIntosh Tubes as their main home. That big McIntosh sound with its “magic midrange” to quote Steve Hoffman, sound oh so creamy smooth with startling detail. Match made in heaven. However, any decent amp will make these rock! Gotta love high efficiency! have fun!

I’m excited for you!!! tbh, I’d been cheating on klipsch with another vintage speaker brand, from a guy named “Rudy”. I’m a transient response freak! It’s what makes it seem real imho. These other speakers are also quite good in that department. Well that debate is over. SH all the way, the others are relegated to basement system. These SH are sounding stellar. The ability to translate that gutterall sound of an acoustic guitar string being plucked, the way the notes decay and the overall depth now show me the Mids are performing at a very high level. Allison Krause was just in the room with me....well it sounded like that. Lol I wish she was, but that’s another topic! the air and space between cymbals(I’m looking at you @ClaudeJ1) and the highest piano is gorgeous. Detailed and dynamic. the drums are just as good and vocals now Pop. I’m really a happy guy. It had been a bit stressful working through these to ****get them to MY liking, in MY room, which isn’t the best honestly, who’s is?**** I want to stress that at no point did these sound bad. I’m incredibly anal and picky about my sound. Like most on a forum like this. Also integrating with a complete vintage tube system(my first) took some getting used to. These mods are a no brainer. You can get a great quality set of Heresy used for under $500 if you’re near any metro area, then pop for ALL the upgrades and still be ahead of a new “stock” pair of Heresy. Not to Knock those, they’re great as-is.....just not Super! Which these certainly are. oh and the tweeter lens’s are the coolest damn thing. I’m sorry, I know it’s about the sound....but aesthetically the Heresy is a timeless price of audio art...and the lens gives it the class it deserves. @Dave A has quite a nice product here and they are worth every penny! Glad I ponied up for them. Great work man! Kudos to the fine craftsmanship! being involved in auto manufacturing and engineering my whole life. I know quality parts, if nothing else. these tweeter lens’s are machined to aerospace quality. Incredible fit. Perfect in fact. You may need to wiggle a tiny bit. Otherwise they drop in perfect. watch out for the lazy Klipsch worker that didn’t fully drive the staples that hold the top motorboard support. It was sticking out about a mm. Which blocked the tweeter housing from fitting. Scared me til I figured it out. Just FYI. They fit and fit perfect! Major props on those machining skills!

Hello Hello! Well, sorry it’s been a while fellow Klipscheads, but I’ve been SUPER busy this summer...anyway. So Claude and I got together for a full fledged Audio Geek out today, spent about 9 hours running tests and tweaking my SH 1.5’s. Sense I last reported, I’d made some changes. The top and mid was just too hot with the taps jumped 3db. Even with my vintage McIntosh Tube setup and vinyl it was screamin hot. So I know Knocked the taps back to original E2 specs and took the 2nd 2uf cap off the mid and tweeter. While this certainly solved the “brightness” issue...I brought about a dullness. The top was basically gone. (As the measurements proved) So after having to cancel last weekend(Sorry again Diz and Claude, hope to meet you soon Diz!) I made it over to Claude’s today, SH’s in toe. we hooked one up and ran a sweep....believe @ClaudeJ1 will be in later with the plots, the werebasically rolling off hard a 6k!!!! No wonder there was no “sparkle”. This is when hen we decided to try a number of different crossover configs, none of which helped fully. Then greatness happened...we installed the B&C DE 120 tweeter using a billet aluminum “horn lens”. I soldered em up right quick...slapped the SH’s back together and didn’t even need to see the sweep plotted to know it was finally right....I could hear it. The graph confirmed with a VERY flat response out to 20k. After a nice long day, I was ready to get home. But not before I soldered the other tweeter and mounted it. I hadn’t yet heard music through them...so I raced home. Hooked the SH’s up to a nice strapped MC240 each(total overkill, I’ve got the gain way down, but why not?) and they sounded incredible! Im pretty happy, after thinking I’ve had it a few times.....still thinking it could use a bit more. Well that bit more is the tweeter and the gorgeous aluminum tweeter lens! While the original tweeter can remain.....after hearing the B&C...it’s just worth it. So as @ClaudeJ1 said “different is different” I now believe this to be the best version of the Super Heresy 1.5. We found the response was flatter WITH the 33uf cap. Measured both. Bass response remains GREAT in real listening...I forget the numbers as I was more focused on the top end. at any rate...it’s been a long day, but wanted to update. I’ll be back with more info in the next few days. heres a few pics with the new tweets

As Claude said, “put it wherever it fits”. As some food for thought, make sure there is enough clearance between the magnet of the woofer and the port. I would guess it’s deep eough. But it’s a guess, Claude may know for sure. I can pop pop the back off mine when I get home and measure. I might be way off base. also, you can move the x-overs to accommodate the ports in the corners, if that’s your issue. I moved mine. As have others. I also added new 5 way Binding Posts, they are a bit overkill, but cool. They do make swapping amps way easier. I run a Restored Carver M1.5t sometimes, though for the HIGHLY sensitive SH at right around 100db efficieny the Carver is way to much with its conservatively rated 350 Watts p/chan RMS 8 ohm rating. Can barely turn the volume, and can’t get to the ‘meat’ of it. So my signal to noise suffers in that setup. Which I why they belong together with the 240. Attached is a photo of my rear panels , FYI, I made new rear panels, using thicker Baltic birch. This was to maintain the original panels condition, Incase I ever sold them(which i don’t see happening and I already sold the K22 woofers. No way they were ever going back in lol) and to add ‘strength’ to the cabinet. Not sure of the actual effects. But they look cool! Can’t hurt either l. Lol also note the position of the Super Heresy in the below pic IS NOT how I run them. It’s just how they are for the moment. I scored a set of speakers I’ve always wanted for a dirt cheap price Thursday. They are what the Super Heresy are resting on. But they are a different manufacturer and that not what this forum is about. My Fiancee wanted to hear the ‘new’ speakers with the MC240. And I don’t like moving that bohemith peice of Iron unless my clumsy a$$ has to! Lol just didn’t want anyone thinking that’s how measurements were take or that I’m listening in that fashion. The SH will take their rightful place alone in that system before the sun falls today! still way impressed with this Mod.

Regarding the ‘Law of diminishing returns’ comment. I agree. Throwing money to chase a small gain, may not be the way to go. Especially when these speakers are sounding better to me everyday. Really really impressed with where they are. Sometimes I’ll be zoned out listening, lost in the music, and I’ll remember ‘Jesus...that sound is coming from Heresy’s!!!? Lol I’ll most certainly be building a TH subwoofer like we discussed. I do agree that’s a MUCH better use of time and money, especially in my not so perfect listening room/rooms. Thats another thing people should be aware of, the room these are in is not the best room around. The wall that the right speaker is along, opens after about 7 ft into 2 rooms, a kitchen and ‘dining’ room. It’s an “open concept” layout. So Claude is spot on when he describes my bass issues below 50hz. I was worried this layout would effect the SH more than it did. It’s effecting it in the bass, but they sound STRONG still. In a ‘normal room’, whatever that is. these would RATTLE the foundation! Also, if I wasn’t a raging audioholic, I could leave these SH and be just fine. Claude brought up TH subwoofers, and well.....WHY NOT?! Lol I’m excited to pair one with the SH. Had two very talented musician freinds over last night, these guys know music and are top tier players locally. They were amazed how good the SH sounded. Couldn’t believe the sound was coming from them. The lack of distortion is unreal, transient response is down right spooky real! listening to a Stan Getz album, the horns in ‘The Girl From Ipanema’ were IN THE ROOM, the sound of ‘air and spit’, from the horn players mouths were as if you were on stage....we just laughed in awe! One offered to buy the SH, I politely turned him down. Wait, no I didn’t, he’s an old friend. I told him come up a bit or jump in a lake!lol it wasn’t enough $ for me, at this time. Though he’s on the lookout for a set, so I can help him do the same. I think that says a lot about this Speaker in its current form. I’ve got pretty decent amplification and front end components, but NO speaker has done this with them. I’ve got about a dozen sets of ‘audiophile’ grade speakers. From really good companies, that we aren’t here to talk about. These Klipsch are my favorite....hands down. I’ve been feverishly searching for a nice set of LaScalas, to replace the set I sold a year and a half ago, at a fire sale rate.(my best friend Ernie, my dog, needed surprise surgery. He’s good now, so it was worth it) However, LaScalas are so damn beautiful, I need em back!!! Lol I’m still looking and will get a set, but I’m in no rush now. I’ll probably end up with them pretty cheap after I move a few sets of speakers that I don’t need anymore. A set of “British Space Heaters” come to mind. Lol Well, I’ll update again with any changes or the curves when we get them. I keep writing these novel for posts. Hope it adds something that helps someone debating the mod. It’s 100% worth it. I have zero regret.

OK, so Sunday afternoon I ripped back into the SH's and did the initial changes I posted about. Claudes original crossover mods. Jumping the taps for the Squawker and Tweeter 1 spot for a 3db boost. I doubled the first Cap from 2uf to 4uf. I used 2 2uf caps. I had purched extra incase. Same Dayton 1% caps. Threw them all back together.....and was happy to hear they sounded much "smoother" and balanced. Still retained the excellent bass boost. However, something just seemed a bit 'off' still. Not that they sounded bad, which I want to stress....never at any point have they been unsatisfactory. I without a doubt love this mod and highly recommend it. Still, I was ready to start plotting my next move. I then sat down to read this thread and saw Claudes rec to completely remove the 33uf cap on the woofer. Remember, my Heresy 1.5's and have the E2 network. So after reading, I jumped back in the SH's and took the 33uf cap out. Plugged em back in. This time, the 'off' sound was now ON. I believe Claude was spot on with his thoughts on the 33Uf cap and the inductor were choking the woofers output around the 400-800 hz region. They now sound Amazing imo, and about 6 other people who Ive showed. In fact my Buddy who I just restored a set of Cornwall 1's for was floored by the change. I took the Heresy off him as some trade toward the CW restoration. He couldnt believe the difference. He now is looking for another pair so I can do these same mods for him. He offered to buy mine on the spot. Though Im keeping them. Not ready to let them go. Not sure I ever will. These now have a secure spot in my 'Stash' of audio thats off limits. Ive really enjoyed this whole process. Ive repaired/restored/modded a lot of speakers in my day. But something about this mod was just really fun. Extracting sound like this from such a nice stout package is a real feat. Claude really nailed this mod, the fact he freely shared this info and R&D time shows what a great guy he is. I still plan on running measurement with Claude when he has some time. Id like to see where they are at now, as I'm sure he does as well. I tend to be someone who's never done tweaking a project. So I mays still get the Crites Autoformer, and knock the Inductor down to 2.5. Per Claudes advice. Again, this is only if the numbers show a glaring issue that could be corrected or improved. Perhaps even a move to another Tweeter, or maybe new Diaphragms...idk. Im really happy where they are at though. Im gonna give it a few days to really settle in. Im listening like crazy though, last night I just couldnt turn it off. The music sounded to good! That right there is one of the best tests around. If it makes me wanna listen to album after album....they sound good. So stay tuned....Ill keep updating any and all changes. Incase any other Heresy 1.5 owners are interested in this mod.

I like this idea, in fact....I think its an excuse to go buy more tools! Just shows theres more than one way to skin a Heresy port! lol I do feel however you do it, that its important to mention the need for a Router with a Round Over Bit, so you can get that nice flush fit for the port. SO it 'sits' in the opening, i suppose it isn't actually necessary, as long as you get the Port securely installed. Whatever method. Either way, great tip @Endo Haha! Yes, good point! I remember as a young kid, maybe 13, thinking i could bore a nice straight circular hole with a forstner bit and my Dads hand drill, for some crazy contraption I was building. Boy was I wrong, the justification for a Drill press was instilled in me that very day, as I stared sadly at my 20 degree angled "hole". lol Point is, its easy to screw that up if you're not experienced with wood working techniques. Also. Id like to point out, that I used Blutak to secure my port and seal it in. I LOVE the stuff for all sorts of audio needs. The nice thing is its made to stick and last, but can be removed if ever needed, without leaving any trace, even on finished wood. (i mean dont go sticking the stuff on some 50 year old KHorn finish, but I've NEVER had an issue with it pealing anything off, even after years. its the stuff school teachers used to hang posters and whatnot) It has a wonderful dampening ability as well. Im using about a 1.3 gram 'blob' on my Headshell for some added weight with a Denon DL103. Its damped the cartridge very nicely, and is tucked under and behind, so it doesnt look bad. Works great to damp speaker baskets, inside turntables, under turntable platters, etc And like I said, can be removed if ever needed with very little effort. Heat doesnt affect it to the point it would melt of get stringy like butyl or similar. Im not a big fan of Silicon Sealants, as they off gas acidic fumes that can and will corrode copper(voice coils anyone?)and some other metals. Ever seen a car thats paint looks real nice everywhere but around the windshield? Where its bubbled paint and rust all around it? Yeah, thats the guy that thought silicon would be a good "fix" for his leaky windshield. Really he helped that moisture rot the pinchweld frame out, with the aid of acidic Silicon sealant. I saw and fixed literally hundreds of these when I managed an Auto Glass Repair shop. There are non acidic versions, however they off gas alcohol fumes...which cant be good for the glues. Also, I could be way over thinking this and be to cautious. I also never have to worry about blutak drying out, cracking, or pulling away from the bond. Stuff works great between Risers or Speaker Stands to decouple the speaker. Also gives the speaker a nice sturdy hold to the shelf without drilling holes for hardware. The best part?? Its super cheap...like $2.99 a pack. Which in audiophile dollars is basically free. lol That is 'til i release my special cryogenically treated, gold plated audiophile recipe. Which will add just a small $500 fee. Ok, Im home today, and had a lot of coffee...so Ill end this post and update about the Real reason we are all here...Super Heresy's!

Ya know, I actually thought of doing it that way, as I have a hole saw just like that....it was at my Dads though. 😕 I didn’t wanna wait til I was there again to get it, and the woodworker in me wanted to ‘challenge’ myself using the router. Why? Who knows...if/when I do another set. I’ll most likely utilize that approach. Great tip! Now back to my SH’s. I’ve been really really busy, and apologize for not updating the thread sooner. I was fortunate enough to meet ClaudeJ1 yesterday. He offered his expertise and a slew of GREAT stories as well! It was an excellent time! We measured my SHs and Claude’s got screenshots of the curve. Which in their current setup, are a bit bass heavy. Though sound great!!! I left the crossovers as is(besides recapping with new 1% polyprolene caps of the same values) due to the hotter midrange in my 1.5 Heresy’s. Im going to try what was originally recommended . Jumping the taps for the mid and tweeter up 3db on the Autformer. And doubling the first cap from 2-4uf. I ordered extra 2’s. We will see how that does, I’m debating the Crites Autoformers for their 1db taps. Which me prove fruitful for further ‘tweaking’. at any rate, this mod has made these Heresies Super alright! I’m sure Claude will be in to show the Frequency curves. He has copies. Ill also be testing more as these changes are done. I was also fortunate enough to see and hear the Jubilees! Wow, my jaw is still on the floor at Claudes! Being a noob to this forum, the overwhelming support and friendlyness of everyone hear, especially Claude, has been refreshing for an Internet forum! Well, I now have a pair of Klipsch ‘Super Heresy 1.5’.....WOW! I finished them earlier this evening and plugged ‘em up to my 240, put Fleetwood Mac on my turntable, adjusted the volume and dropped the stylus. What happened next can be described as nothing less the miraculous! Cluadej1’s design/recipe/genius helped me to transform my Heresy’s from ‘good’ speakers, to TOP performing something to hold onto, don’t want to stop listening to speakers! I spoke with Claude on the phone for a good while last weekend, and he couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly! What a great guy, this forum is lucky to have him and his knowledge, that he shares for FREE! I updated him earlier on the success, he was happy to hear it. He’s offered to take some measurements for me next week, as we live very close. I’ll most certainly be taking him up on that, I’m curious both about his opinion of these wonderful things, and what the numbers tell us. Im sure we will share any info. Remember, my set of Heresy’s are 1.5’s...I guess. They were made in April of 85’. The rear looks like the first series. I replaced all the caps with Dayton metal foil polypropylene audio grade caps(1% on the 2uf’s and 5% on the 33uf) I recapped and listened to them before doing any mods, in ‘stock’ format. The recap was a significant improvement on their own. Not in the bass, just overall ‘smoothness’. Most noticeable recap of a speaker I’ve done, now that I think about it. I also lined the cabinet with egg crate acoustic foam. I used the eminence pro12a woofers, which were quite well made at their price point imo. I popped for some nice replacement binding posts as well, wanted some bling I guess.lol I went with Claude’s recommendation of leaving the taps as is on the autoformer, for now, as the 1.5s squawker is 2-3dbs or so hotter than the original recipe for Super Heresy. We will see what happens when tested next week. Initial sound is great as is though. Another thing I did, and come to think of it, I don’t think I mentioned it to Claude, was to make new rear panels. I used 3/4 in Baltic birch. Now on my speakers they used 5/8 ply for rears, I had some 3/4 birch ply laying around. So my rear panels stick out about 1/8 inch(the originals were ‘sunk’ in about an 1/8 or so). This was nbd to me, I painted them, and they look great. The extra thickness can’t hurt either. I did this because the anal, historian in me wanted to be able to go back to ‘stock’ if I ever sold them and people weren’t crazy about mods. Well first off, I now know I’m not selling them anytime soon, and I’ll probably sell the k22s to recoup some of the cost. But I have some NICE rear KLipsch panels with the labels that I’m certain will not enjoy life in my storage area lol. But oh well, still glad I did it. As for sound,, the bass is MUCH IMPROVED and this speaker now sounds full, the mids just come oozing out with gorgeous detail and the highs remain smooth and lovely. There seems to be much better clarity and coherence of the music. Soundstage is more defined, probabaly from the caps, the detail and dynamics are elevated and cause the music to sound ‘realer’ more involving. I’m impressed! Overall I can’t recommend this mod enough, it really takes the Heresy up to the next level. I’m hoping to compare to a set of Cornwall 1s I’m just finishing restoring for a friend. Now perhaps I need to let these settle in a bit, as well as my ears, and excitement! Ive actually snuck away from a family gathering to ‘quickly’ update those in Klipschland! Ill be posting a number of pics tmrw when I have more time. The worst part part of all this was installing the port. Fortunately I have a router, but it’s still no fun, lemme tell ya. The end product looks great though. But be forewarned, if you don’t have basic woodworking skills and a router. Find a friend to help with the ports.

Well I went back re-read the thread. Seems I answered my own question in doing so. I see some other members have had the same issue, which was "resolved" by attenuating the K53 2-3 db more, to account for the K53 being 2-3db hotter than the k55. I was planning to get the Crites Autoformer, which would help in allowing more "tuning" options. Wouldnt this increase the efficieny a bit more? Seeing as the mid will need less power....I can see it hurting efficiency. I realize having a different mid will create a somewhat diff sound.....If i bought a pair of k55 of the 'bay, would it work with composite horn the 53 has? Anyone know? Wondering if I scrap the idea.....man. I really wanted these. SHouldve opened when I bought em. I got a GREAT deal on them, so its not the end of the world. But yeah...you know...

Also, do both 2uf caps get replaced with 4uf? Or just the Mid, and just 2uf For the other? Thanks
