  1. You beat me to it! One of my top 5 all-time! Still listen to it damn near every day. I have my old original copy and a MOFI vinyl pressing but my Classic Records 200 gram Quiex vinyl copy is always my go-to.
  2. Agreed. Quality could be better. It is however the best of MY copies.
  3. Just listened to Close to the edge on MOFI vinyl last night by the way.
  4. I'm going to throw Chicago Transit Authority in the ring mainly because it was such a strong first effort.
  5. Still playing around with settings. Going back and forth between -9 and -12. Crazy! It does not jive by the numbers in my mind but the sound tells me something completely different. Since I have been listening to them so forward for so long at first I thought there was no chance settings in this range would ultimately fly. Seemed too dark, too thick if that makes sense. However, after experimenting in this range with a bunch of different recordings I am starting to really like it. This won't come as much of a surprise either I am sure but as you might imagine I am also able to listen to recordings that I could not tolerate previously even with my crappy hearing. I no longer find myself running for the hills with less than stellar vinyl. Needless to say I am pleased that I began to question my tap settings and am going down this path.

    SIGNING OFF

Sorry to hear it Steve. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do, right? I hope everything is OK and I wish you the best of everything life has to offer.
  7. And you were right on target as well Justin, thank you Sir!
  8. Made sense to me too and that is where I have had it set. However, after reading the post by Justin I decided more experimentation was warranted. Since I have never tried anything more than -6 I knocked them down to -12. One thing that happened immediately was that it eliminated two problems that I have been trying to get rid of for some time now. Even thought it was my room at times. One was an edginess/harshness in the mid-range the other was lack of bass. Sounded better. But at -12 things sounded a little dark so I tried -9db and have been thrilled with the improvement. Then this week I talked to Dave and before knowing what I had done he suggested trying -9db with his horn and the 8 ohm DCM50. He thought I had probably had it running pretty hot with my previous setting. He could not have been more spot on. Bass is back and the sound is smooth as silk.
  9. Wow Justin! I have never tried anything more than -6db. Seems kinda low for the 2404's which are 105db and the La Scala bins which are in that ballpark doesn't it? Guess I could try more attenuation just for the heck of it.
  10. Stock La Scala bottom. You are right of course Dean. I will hit-up Dave.
  11. Congratulations Man! Very happy for you.
  12. Could not find what I was looking for using the search function and I have no means to measure it so I have to approach it in this manner. For purposes of tap settings on the autoformer, what would you guess the sensitivity of the DCM50 to be "on the horn"? I believe the sensitivity of the driver alone to be 108.5db if I am not mistaken. I am using 0-4 on the 3636 now for -3.0 db. I know what I like and have been experimenting but wanted to hear some additional thoughts.
  13. Looks like the Australian Walnut they have been using.
  14. Delrin works well for stuff like this also. Strong, machines well, reasonably priced, clean, light, white or black, etc., etc..
  15. Or a guy that took pictures standing up through the sun-roof of his Mercedes while driving.
  16. I have had three different VPI 16.5's and cannot say enough positive about them Love the machine.
  17. Created a new album on Flickr. Thanks, much better.
  18. Thanks Neil, we are doing well. Never got to listen to them or even install the Crites CW1526C woofers for that matter. Wish I had the chance.
  19. A couple guys asked me to view the thread of my last scratch build once again. Jubilee Clone bass horns, TAD TD-4001 mid drivers on Dave's Elliptrac 400 horns and JBL 2404's in a 3-way configuration. Dean built the networks for me which were designed by ALK. Created a Flickr album linked below. If anyone has any questions please feel free. https://www.flickr.com/photos/140914618@N07/40974371292/in/album-72157689167353040/
  20. And that as they say is that! These were getting the full Enchilada. Grilles, Figured Koa veneer, anniversary style toe kicks and emblems. Damn shame, I will say that.
