  1. Ouch, I've never been in an airplane that flew through a storm that bad! The worst was one stormy night in the Tonkin Gulf; the Admiral was aboard and we were the last to recover for the evening. We couldn't see the deck during our first few approaches and our preference was to bingo to Da Nang, but for some reason the Admiral wanted us to make a few more attempts. On one approach we finally saw the island after we were waved off, but we had to try again. Finally, on about the 5th attempt, we came in so low, under glideslope, that we saw the lights in the Jet Shop (below the deck), we climbed and caught the wire! The Flight Surgeon should have brought a stiff drink to the Ready Room for us that night!
  2. I’ve never had to deal with alligators on a daily basis, but I’ve encountered them, up close, on many fishing trips, while frog gigging, and while hunting; never had to dispatch one though! We do have our share of various non-poisonous types of snakes on our property here in East Texas. Interestingly, we’ve never seen a Copperhead on our property, but our neighbors just across our County Road see them all the time! However, what we do have is a Cougar that's made our property part of its range. Most of the time I just hear it if it is in our woods when I walk out onto the back porch at night and shine its eyes; it then says hello with a knee shaking snarl! I did see it once during the daytime, down by the creek that runs across the back of our property; beautiful cat!!!!
  3. Well, let me ease your pain; I relate to Page 1945! 😲
  4. Yep, I still need THAT PENCIL! PB Picture removed.
  5. Last night was a Surround System Music & Merlot session. Blu-ray Concert DVD - Dolby Digital 5.1 Blue Man Group - How To Be A Megastar Live! My Subwoofer really got a workout!
  6. Back when Quadraphonic was the rage I started out with a Quad Sansui system and a Panasonic Quad/8 Track Tape Player. Eventually I sold the Quad/8 Track Tape Player and all of my tapes to a friend, but for some reason I kept 4-5 8 Track tapes; nostalgia I guess!
  7. Been there, done that, I get it too!!!!!!!! Still have and need the pencil!!!!!
  8. Pigeon Point Lighthouse. I took this picture in 2004 when we lived in Oceanside, CA and my wife and I took my sister and brother-in-law on a trip up the California coast, which included a few days in San Francisco and The Redwoods. The Pigeon Point Lighthouse is on the central California coast, about 50 miles south of San Francisco , and it is one of the tallest lighthouses in America. PB Picture removed.
  9. dtel, thank you! We have Butterfly Bushes in the planters around two sides of our home. That Butterfly bush in particular is the largest and seems to always have huge flower clusters and would be a nature photographer's delight!
  10. In the Pictures folder on my PC, I classified this under "East Texas Yard Nature". This is a picture of a Butterfly and naturally it is on one of our Butterfly Bushes (Spring 2009). PB Picture removed.

    4th of July

I live out in the country here in the Piney Woods region of East Texas, but we could hear lots of fireworks going off until about 1am this morning. Sure glad we had a nice rain the day before; somewhat took the worry out of woods and pastures being set ablaze by dummies with explosives! 😂

Happy 4th to everyone; have a safe and enjoyable day!
  13. I have always been content with a 5.1 system; never had a desire to move to a 7.1 system even though my Home Theater area is wired to accommodate that configuration. When I updated to a 4K TV, 4K UHD Blu-ray player, and a Marantz SR5012 I started thinking about 7.1. When I read about the RP-140SA's and that they could be used as Dolby Atmos or Surround speakers, I bought a pair of them because of their flexibility. I'm using them in a 5.1.2 configuration with them placed on top of my front left and right speakers. In my opinion, when the music content warrants their use, the SR5012 will use them and to me there is an improvement to the sound. So far their use has been with Blu-ray Concert DVDs.
  14. Tonight was a Surround System Music & Merlot session. Blu-ray Concert DVD - DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 Joe Bonamassa - An Acoustic Evening At The Vienna Opera House
  15. I have always used a 5.1 system, never cared to expand to 7.1; however, when I purchased a Marantz SR5012 and saw the versatility of assigning the number 6 & 7 amplifiers I started thinking about a 7.1 or 5.1.2 system. When I read about the Klipsch RP-140SA's and depending on how you installed them, that they could be used for Dolby Atmos, Height, or even surround, I bought a pair when they were on sale. I installed them as Front Dolby Atmos L&R speakers and when the sound format that I am playing (Music Concert Blu-ray or Movie Blu-ray) uses them, they really do improve the sound of my system. Rather than use them full time, I let the SR5012 dictate when they are used. This might be system and room acoustics dependent, but they work well for me and my old ears!!!!! 😁
  16. War Eagle Mill, a water powered operating mill on War Eagle Creek in North Arkansas. PB Picture removed.
  17. It was a Music Blu-ray DVD: Kansas - There's Know Place Like Home And, yes, "Know" is correct! 😁
  18. The speaker arrangement you are contemplating has much larger speakers than my system, but to give you a comparison, I have a Marantz SR5012 driving an older and smaller all Klipsch 5.1.2 system and this setup has the best sound I’ve ever experienced in my numerous iterations of a Home Theater System. I use my Surround setup primarily for watching Music DVD’s and Movie DVD’s, mostly Blu-ray. I have a separate system for 2 Channel (Vinyl, CDs, Tapes). The SR5012 appears to drive my speakers effortlessly. However, you should be aware that the SR5012 runs very hot. I tried an SR6012 and it had a great sound, but ran too hot, much hotter than I thought it should. I purchased an Infrared Thermometer and tested the temperature of the top of the unit while playing a 4K UHD Blu-ray movie. After about an hour into the movie I measured the temperature of the top ventilated area of the SR6012 and it measured approximately 120 degrees Fahrenheit; it was 82 degrees Fahrenheit while in standby prior to the movie. This particular movie didn’t have a lot of sustained dramatic front sound or surround content, so the 5 operating amplifiers didn’t get much of a workout. I contacted Marantz support and they agreed that 120 measured was perhaps a little too high, so I sent the SR6012 back, but liked the sound so I bought the SR5012 and although it runs hot as well, it isn’t as hot as the SR6012. For me, the SR5012 is a keeper!!!!!! However, when the SR5012 is operating, not in standby, I make sure there is plenty of ventilation! Here is my setup: Surround Receiver: Marantz SR5012 Front Speakers (2): Klipsch RB61’s Center Channel (1): Klipsch RC62 Surround (2): Klipsch RS42’s Dolby Atmos (2): Klipsch RP-140SA Subwoofer (1): Klipsch RW10d
