  1. If it’s all the drivers in one speaker it has to be the crossover. But one driver that’s bad or failing will make that speaker quieter also. Swapping crossovers is fast and easy. If it follows to the other speaker you have the culprit. If not it could be a bad or failing driver, turn the music on low enough that you can put your ear to each horn without hurting yourself. Get a towel and plug one horn while putting your ear to the unplugged one. You should be able to tell if each is working. This is just a quick test to see if a diaphragm has failed without putting a meter on them. I’d ohm each out at some point just to know where each is at. I can help with some or all of this. Cornwall’s I bought had a bad tweeter diaphragm, One speaker was quieter and had less highs during testing. Seller dropped the price for me and I replaced the diaphragm, cheap and easy fix.
  2. Troubleshooting time.... swap the crossovers next... I think you live near me, Hwy 85/87. If so, I think I have enough spare parts laying around to swap everything in those to figure out what’s wrong. PM me if you’d like some help or borrow some components.
  3. Nice equipment! Just to clarify, $2700 for two La Scala’s or four? Thanks
  4. What a deal. Anyone not familiar with Salamander it’s build like a brick 💩 house and looks like the finest furniture. Very modular with lots of upgrade features...! Usually outside of most budgets, until now. Don’t hesitate to go out of your way to make this deal, you won’t regret it, I promise!
  5. I have more pictures I’ll send someone by email if interested.
  6. Lol - those are my old ones, sold them last year for $1000. They worked perfectly but are not going to win any beauty contest. They just have lots of little chips, discoloration, lacquer is starting to crackle on top.... Crossovers were recapped by previous owner along with the casters (not the best job but not the worst either). They were my garage units for a couple of years. Guy gave me some sob story about always wanting a pair but couldn’t afford them, I dropped my price only to see the guy trying to flip them on CL 2 weeks later for $1800. Not sure if this is the same guy but might be.
  7. Looks good! Shouldn’t be an issue. I have glass tops on my Belles, laid directly on the wood with no noticeable vibration or noise. If you do get something, they make very thin round disks made of clear plastic as a spacer. The glass place I got my glass from gave me a bag of them that I chose not to use. If you have problems let me know, I’ll find them and mail them to you.
  8. Speaking for myself only. I have the next closest thing to these, KPT-435’s (dual 15’s but same mid/high). the Cornwall’s are great (I have a pair) but can’t compete with the 435’s. It’s not a fair comparison really, the KPT’s are more than twice the size in every way! dual 15’s, 2” 510 mid horn & 1 3/8” 703 high freq horn. The 703 tweeter horn is larger than the Cornwall mid.... at low volumes the difference is slightly tilted in the KPTs favor, the louder you play them, the greater the gap between the two. The KPT is cleaner, larger sound stage, with a lot more headroom. Some may disagree but the difference is kinda like comparing a Heresy to a Cornwall (not quite that drastic of a difference (lows of CW and KPT cover similar freq) but kinda).... hard to describe, need to hear them together to truly understand. They are big, don’t be fooled, and unless you like industrial looks you’ll need to put time and money into making them look otherwise. Also, if you’re not going active you’ll need to ditch the factory passive crossovers, meant for behind the screen, mids and highs are many dB too hot. I’ve been playing with ALK CSW universals, APs and ESs with REW sweeps. All make these speakers sound incredible. Active is on my list going forward... If you want to get very close to these in a smaller more attractive enclosure build a Cornscala. Or better yet, a belle or La Scala bottom with 2” horn top hat. The latter will beat them in clean bass, just not as low but a good sub will make any setup better (IMO). hope this helps.
  9. Black is slimming and they won’t look as big as their wood counterparts!

  12. Would 2 of them be equal to a single 684? more options for placement if so....
  13. I think Billy already lifted his leg on them.... hope you get them, a great and deserving guy, they’d be going to a loving home!

  16. Jason’s right, 14” id, I didn’t subtract wood thickness from plans. haven’t built a pair, yet...
  17. Response is flatter and sensitivity higher the wider you go.
  18. 16” tall opening by however wide the enclosure is made. They are 36” tall by 36” deep and can be made 18” to 36” wide using a 15” driver. 12” drivers can be used in a 15” to 30” wide enclosure. Enclosures under 18” wide are recommended to use 12” drivers and anything 18” wide and over a 15” driver is recommended. Straight from BFM plans...
  19. Looks like $120 each from parts express, that’s worth trying. Thanks!
  20. Curious what the improvement was? lower, smoother, harder hitting...? Have you or others tried these in Belle’s? Thanks!
  21. I thought about doing the base bin upgrade on my la scalas but decided against it and put a Klipsch 115 sub in the room with them, works great! Some will turn their noses up at mixing horns and direct radiators but it was cheap (already had the sub) and sounds great to me (the one who listens to it)! and I second the Crites upgrades, did the same to a pair of Belles and it was a noticeable improvement. If you want an even better crossover look at ALK Engineering. Several levels of upgrade options and price points.
  22. Stop bragging, some ( I ) don’t have any.... 😳
  23. I’ve only been married for a few years so I still have my 9 lives.... PM sent! 😳
  24. Mine too, after I put some ALK CSW crossovers on them. What are you using for crossovers? Funny - I’m constantly introduced to speakers I never knew existed while browsing these forums. I want to try them all but that would be Ridiculous, right?! just added CF-3 & 4’s to my bucket list.... 😳
  25. Emile, Are you thinking about selling your 904 bass bins too or just the 510/691 top hats? If the latter, what would you use on top of the 904’s?
