  1. I would seriously consider the Crites woofer before any other. It's designed from scratch for this application, sealed back chamber, horn loaded. Known good part.
  2. Larry, remember you well. IIRC these Khorns didn't have the little wedges. Yours are still the only ones I've ever seen. Sorry so slow to get back. I've been roughing it on the beach in Carlsbad, Ca. Tough job but somebody has to do it. Dean, glad you able to overcome that cancer deal. You're either tough or lucky or both. Do you have good pics of smilins crossovers? I can't find mine. I remember how gorgeous they looked and even better how they sounded.
  3. Does anybody still do the Heresy crossover mod? I can't remember who had it, was it John Albright?
  4. see pg 2 of this thread.
  5. JBL2470 on Martinelli horn. mid-range to die for
  6. yeah, that stuff came out crazy good. Massive amount of work went into them. lesson learned: don't try to spray nitrocellulose lacquer in the summer in Phx. Whattaluser....
  7. here's one: and the whole thing, snowflake cherry doesn't get flakier than that.
  8. Dean, thx for posting. You are one of the guys who originally welcomed me here. I joined up just as the vintage tube was getting started with Mobile Homeless. Wonder whatever happened to Kelly? Did you ever hear those DBB Cornscala things I built for Smilin? You built those work of art crossovers. I'm having trouble finding the pics I have of those things.
  9. Thx Mark. I've never even built a set of crossovers for them. Listened to any good 56 year old Bose lately?
  10. Tom, in that last pic I believe the Scott amp visible is the one you have now.
  11. Tom, good to see you too. That Scott was a good amp IIRC. Getting to where that trip to Colorado Springs for the 60 Khorns was awhile back. Turns out it was Nov 2003. That one K-5-W pics is dated in Dec 1959. I would have been in the first grade. The one has serial number 1517, before they got into all those letters and whatnot.
  12. Hmpf, looks like 41 to about 600HZ. I dunno if a k-33 could cover that. Jeeze, I also have a Belle bass bin that I never finished. I could try it in there. Funny, 2 Craigs. Need the Craiginator. We immediately thought of the consequences of the Secret Service getting involved. We have a non-public area commonly called the Dumpster where we put stuff like that. Move it to the Dumpster instead of deleting it. Fortunately the SS never showed up. I still see that guy on other car forums, he seems to have toned it down considerably.
  13. Craig, I want to build a tube based bass amp for my son to use with bass guitar. Also he from time to time needs amplification of his upright bass. They have pickups for that, they clip on the bridge or something. I was thinking (I know, I know) of a roughly 2x2x2 ported box with a k-33 (I have one, I think) or similar driver. It needs some power but I don't like the looks of the EL-34 type tubes. 6550s are still pretty easily available. I need to check on the tonal range of upright bass.
  14. I know the issue. I'm a long time mod on a forum with 70K members. we have a special section for politics and other controversial topics. member have to ask for access, it's not exactly public. It's completely unmoderated. I've only been in there a few times in the last 10 years or so. A political discussion got crazy and a guy posted a direct threat to a sitting president. He's gone forever. We have a software tool that really works. it bans their username, bans their email from signing up again and bans their IP address from connecting and deletes all their posts. Sort of a death penalty. Really good for spammers.
  15. Regular Heresy's are not vented at all, airtight cabinet. Vented cabinet is the major difference between these. I think the woofer is different due to the vented cab. The standard Heresy cabinet helps control the woofer, limiting excursion of the cone, both in and out.
  16. I was referencing the shelf port. looks just like a miniaturized Cornwall.
  17. wow, mini-Corns. I'll bet those things kick butt.
  18. the drive is a little much from here in Phx. Dang.
  19. Craig, would that output iron work with a quad of 6550s push-pull?
  20. Thanks to all you guys who responded. It's good to be remembered. What's this stuff about being restricted? I didn't see any stuff about posts being moderated before posting in public. I remember Al K. had some run-in with the company and quit, a big loss. I saw something about Dean being sick with something serious. Has there been a mass exodus due to some big dispute?
  21. LOL, just saw something said she must be the love child of Janis and James Brown. pretty apt, IMO.
