  1. If I'm remembering correctly, the 222b had slightly smaller output transformers than the c & d models. The lore says the b had nicer mids and treble, but the c had better bass. Maybe. Recently got a circuit simulator program working, first thing I did was draw up a 222c schematic and test. The preamp & tone control stage had quite a bit of bass roll-off. Found the input cap values was the limits there. Maybe I'll check out the 'b' circuit, see what it's doing there. Then again, the roll-off was quite below the bottom of a Belle or LaScala. Update: 222b is -3dB @40Hz 222C is -3dB @25Hz. this is the frequency response of the preamp circuit, set by two capacitors on the input and a minor part played by another cap at the output. Change those cap values to .0033uF followed by .0022uF and you're flat to the low 20’s, -3dB @16 or so. 222d used a slightly different circuit with fewer parts.
  2. Also, make sure the speaker baffle/face plate screws aren't stripped. They're behind the rubber sockets the grilles push into. I had a similar crunchy distortion on mine that was due to resonance of the face plate at ~200Hz. I could make the buzz happen by tapping on the right spot, and the noise came from the horn. a toothpick or two, or a matchstick down the screw hole can help patch that up temporarily. (I really need to convert it to T-nuts and 1/4"-20 machine screws...)
  3. If they're going onto a set of Belle's, 'deeper bass' won't be a concern, nor will higher power. 20wpc would bring the cops at full tilt.
  4. Probably a warped voice coil that's rubbed some insulation off a couple of turns and is shorting against the magnetic plates. Local shop could probably change out the voice coil.
  5. I was doing quite a bit of guitar amplifier repair a while back, almost always got tubes from Euro. The only time I had a bad tube was the one time I didn't, and ordered JJ's from a different supplier.
  6. Yes, Eurotubes.com. I've always done well with their stuff. What's the board's opinion on them?
  7. That makes me want to listen to Michael Gulezian.
  8. I'm going to second fixing your room acoustics as the next step; that's where your bang-for-the-buck lives right now.
  9. Where are you located? any major metro area should have a speaker repair shop, or there's Speaker Exchange in Tampa. Many other repair recommendations should show up in 3... 2... 1...
  10. As you said, they're 'unobtanium'. I have one busted one somewhere in the house, and the other was missing when I bought my 'still works' CF2's.
  11. Some of my best friends are engineers, "I've read your file". 😁
  12. EFI? What's that? Actually, that's the next round on the XS650. the 800 might just get one as well. Anyways, back to the program. 🤪
  13. The PC is pretty close to stock, excepting the air filter box. that might go back to stock if it keeps being a PITA on carb tuning. The XS650, though... that one's had just about everything done to it excepting piston/bore work.
  14. About the opposite of that one: Honda Pacific Coast.
  15. Don't trigger the engineers, they can be kinda sensitive. 🧐
  16. 50-100 watts/channel would be more than enough to drive you right out of the room, with more than enough headroom for whatever you're listening too. 10 watts/channel would probably give you 20dB headroom for any sane listening. What's yer budget? Have fun!
  17. I'm sure the engineers at the major auto manufacturers don't appreciate people putting on loud exhaust pipes, intakes, fancy lights, and whatnot on their vehicles, but people still do it. Ultimately, you own them, and your ears know what they like. The engineers may design the things (and quite well, I may add), but everything between the artist's mind and yours is abused into something not much different than a box of coloring crayons by a whole bunch of other engineers and artists that may be quite at odds with each other. Dynamic Tension creates art, beautiful art creates enjoyment. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Keep on Klipschin'.
  18. "Mailman": 8/8, 8/8, 7/8, 6/8, chorus in 4/4
  19. Soundgarden's "Superunknown" has some wild time signatures. 4/4 is definitely in the minority.
  20. That's a good start for troubleshooting. If you go to the crunchy woofer, and lightly push it in & out a bit, does it make a scratching sound?
  21. Should work quite well for normal listening.
  22. "Which amplifiers do you like to power KLF-30's?" Which steps would you take in the event of a fire? Same answer: Bluddy big ones.
  23. Dude... I guess Mr. Delgado really did have something better than a matching subwoofer under his hat. Try This:, it gets ALL the way down.
  24. Word on the street is that Saul Marantz himself designed the transformers for Plush. Circuits are nearly straight knockoff of Fender 100w stuff.
