Yes, I did, and it is the same speaker giving the problem. Also different amps give the same problem. My SS Marantz more than my tube amp (which has more of a roll-off in high frequencies). Thank you for doing the suggestion.

I'll check the gaskets this week. As I have checked all the rest, I hope this is to blame. I've noticed the screws are very tight and go deep into the wood, so those old gaskets must be very much compressed and they are 50 years old... This is one of the tracks where I hear the 'ziing' often, btw:
-
I must admit it sounds as if something loose is vibrating when a particular note is played.

What are the symptoms of a diaphragm gone bad?

Up to now, I haven't touched the horns (I did replace the caps of the crossovers).

I have a question about my 1972 Heresy speakers. Hope someone can help me. Of late, one of the speakers produces a 'ziiing' sound when I listen to a particular CD (with oud music ). When a particular note is played, there seems to be interference and a metallic 'ziiiing' sound is produced in the tweeter or squawker. Can't tell which one. It only affects one speaker, the other one is fine. For most of the other music that I listen to, the speaker is fine. I opened the speakers and noticed two things: The K-77 was covered with a yellowish corrosive powder (see pictures) which easily rubbed off, and it also had a loose screw (to fix to the wood panel). I'm wondering if the diaphragm needs to be replaced, or if it is caused by something else, like a loose screw or perhaps the extremely dry weather which we have here right now... Or perhaps a good clean would do the trick? Help will be appreciated!

From his written review: "I was hoping to listen to the amp but forgot and took it all apart for the review. When I get a chance, I will give it a listen." He's the kind of reviewer that looks at numbers only and excludes the human ears and brains. That's where the magic happens, in my opinion! Don't let the b*st*rds grind you down, enjoy the music!

Forte IV Amp Pairing - Yamaha A-S1200. Thoughts?
MeloManiac replied to pimogo's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
This is a high-end amplifier of the Yamaha stable and will be amazing with the Fortes! -
In the past year I bought these two albums at a local thriftstore. I'm currently watching Steven Spielberg 's version of it on Disney+. I like it a lot!

Can someone help me find amplifier for RP-600M?
MeloManiac replied to psykoticboss's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
These small class d amps give you the best bang for the buck indeed! Make sure it has subwoofer out. -
Maybe, symbolically, you should have your Russian supply destroyed, and spit on them?

This used to be my very first 'computer'... The Tandy MC-10. It connected to the tv screen directly and I remember it had 2kb of memory. It was programmable in 'basic'. Must have been in the early 1980s. I gave it away to a neighbour who studied electronics. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/12/18/1987180/-Adventures-in-Retrocomputing-TRS-80-Micro-Color-Computer It didn't spin vinyl, though...

Realistic used to be distributed in Belgium too, back in the days. Where I grew up, they were sold in Tandy shops where they also sold electronics and first generation personal computers.

Also consider the more advanced, wireless connected, audiophile oriented MARANTZ PM7000N before deciding. -
I saw news about the floods in Australia. Equally devastating...

I'm currently disgusted by what is happening in the world: two of my three kids covid positive (mild symptoms, luckily) while nobody seems to care about covid anymore, skyrocketing energy prices with terrifying financial implications for the whole of Europe, and worst of all, a terrible war only 2000km away from my home, with intollerable human suffering. To me, listening to music now feels like being on the sinking Titanic while the orchestra keeps playing... 🤕

Not quite. Take a phone preamp. It comes iw RIAA EQ and will amplify the frequencies according to some standard table. The same can be said for preamps in general. Each brand has its typical sound, which has to do with the settings and the components used. In my experience, your brain adapts to this soon, and the difference goes unnoticed, until you start comparing a and b. I'm a purist myself and prefer the shortest route from source to speaker. One more thing, most integrates brands, like Denon and Marantz, have a 'pure' button to turn off most of the preamp EQ. Your setup is quite pure now, so I see no need to add something in between.

https://pureimage.ca/integrated-amps-versus-preamplifier-power-amplifier-separates/ It mostly has to do with upgradebility and how power is handled.

My goodness, I've been off line for for just a couple of days, and so many nice albums were spinning here! Those Riverside Jazz vinyl records.... So jealous of them. I have some of them on CD, but I have been aware of the fact that I have few 'classic' jazz albums on vinyl. I started buying jazz records, only when CD was in full swing (pun intended), and now I have a rack full of classic jazz on... CD. Here are two exceptions... I love them...

Can't complain about the cost of Heresy IV
MeloManiac replied to ClaudeJ1's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Inter-continental transport costs have risen spectacularly over the past two years. Getting Klipsch Heritage speakers from the US to Europe, for instance, makes them even more expensive. Add taxes and import duties, and you see prices skyrocketing... Look at the screengrabs below... You can do the conversion yourself, I guess. This is an official Klipsch dealer in Belgium: https://www.mediaelectronics.be/product/klipsch-heresy-iv/ -

I bought my 1972 Heresy set in 2018 for €700 in Belgium and haven't regretted this one second since...
