    My solid state Denon Amp filters out most of the noise. When playing music it is hardly noticeable, luckily, but it's there in between tracks...

    I recently installed a Powerline Wifi Booster in the house to have better wifi upstairs. (The device basically sends digital data through the power grid to the upstairs receiver which then sends it out as a wifi signal.) Since then, my Leben CS300 amplifier sends out a weak, crackling noise to the speakers (and headphone, but here it is less disturbing). When I turn up the volume, the noise does *not* go up. In order to test if the Booster was indeed the cause, I unplugged it, and yes, the noise was gone. Two questions: 1) Can this noise signal damage my amp or speaker? 2) Is there a way to deal with this?     Thanks for the input. After all considerations, and resetting everything, the issue remains. I think the cheapest solution will be to replace the needle.

    Need some quick opinions on what's going on with my pickup needle. This needle was bought in 2020 for my vintage Onkyo CP1000A in order to bring it back to life. When I put it down, it skids one or two centimeters toward the center (scratch!) and then it starts playing with lots of distortions and jumps. Can't see anything wrong with it, though. My guess is it is broken and needs replacement, right?

    I just want to add that this album sounds amazing: no hiss, no rumble, excellent bass and highs. It's kind of fantastic to listen to it through the Leben CS300 and 1972 Heresy speakers.

    In the past couple of years, my wife has bought some vinyl records for me, as a present. But this week, a first: she bought a vinyl (double) album for herself: Bart Peeters, De Kat Zat op de Krant. He's a gifted, multitalented person and hugely popular in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium. My wife's a fan, and she has most of his music, if not all, on CDs. So I asked her, why spinning vinyl this time? After pausing and reflecting somewhat, she said she liked the warmth of the sound, the tactile experience, the nostalgic, cosiness of it. I'm teasing her about the fact that she ordered a signed album and she secretely has a crush on him! 🤣

    My old H/K430 twin powered amp sounds very different to my new Marantz PM5005 (I know, it's entry level). The H/K shines in the low and the high frequencies. In the pic below, if I wanted to declutter, all I would need is the H/K and the turntable, and the RP160Ms.

    I've driven my 1972 Heresy speakers with 3.5W p/c (TubeCube), 12Wp/c (Leben CS300), Harman/Kardon 430 (twin engine, 25Wp/c), and modern Denon and Marantz amps ((40W p/c). In my experience, it is not the Watt that determines the sound quality, but the quality of the auditory circuit. With sensitive speakers, my CS300 with 12 Watt per channel is more than loud enough, even in a large space. But then again, I like to listen to details at low volume, close range. I fully appreciate people who are after a more visceral experience and want to feel the music, literally! There is one thing I don't fully understand. My 1972 Heresy speakers specs are 100 Watt (peak 300W), while in 1972 there were very few consumer amplifiers with this level of power. Currently listening to Iron Maiden's new album, volume nob at 12 o'clock, and it is deafening...

    Two albums I bought at the local thrift store are really amazing. The classic 1955 Glenn Gould recording, on vinyl pressed in 1977. And a very rare Leos Janacek String Quartets record.     Welcome to the machine starts with industrial sounds and a rumble. This low frequency rumble can already be heard in the final bars of Wish you were here (part 5), the track right before. It is so well done that each time, I think that there's a really heavy truck is in the street and it makes my house shake but... my 1972 Heresy speakers are doing this, without subwoofer. I have a set of standing Onkyo speakers too, of which I think they sound pretty good, but when I hooked those up to my system, they completely failed at reproducing the low frequency rumble of that passage. Here is the youtube song, but the effect will surely be lost when you play it on laptop speakers or a smartphone.

    My RP160M speakers, the predecessors of the RP600M, are driven by a 1970s H/K 430 receiver. I've had a couple of other amps connected, included tube amps, but this is for me the best amp. So you may consider using a vintage amp - they come cheap and sound amazing! If you buy new, I would make sure it also has bluetooth and wifi inside. It will greatly reduce the number of cables and powerplugs. Buy a separate phono stage. Take a look at competitively priced Denon and Marantz microsystems. Don't worry about the wattage. It's the first couple of watts that is important with these sensitive (efficient) speakers.

    I used to own a cassette tape (original, no copy) of the soundtrack of Bird. Must be somewhere on the attic now. I remember reading the tiny print of it, telling that the jazz music of the movie was re-recorded with modern techniques and present day musicians. But it appears to have been even more complex, says Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_(1988_film)#Music I would love to see that movie again, but it is hard to find on blu-ray.

    I have been busy too of late: new school year has started (I'm a teacher), lot's of things to do, one positive note: we can teach without facemask, and also the students can take it off when they sit down. There's an 'indian summer' coming our way with temperatures up to 30 degrees Celsius next week - a facemask is terrible then!

    I got to learn Jan Hammer in the 80s, when he became well known with the tv show 'Miami Vice', for which he wrote 'Crocket's theme'. Only of late, I learned that he is European and that he had a career with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and many other bands too.
