Being back from my holiday in Dinant, Adophe Sax's birth town, my first sax solo is Clarence Clemons', in Thunder Road on Born To Run.

Back home from excellent holidays in the Belgian Ardennes, Dinant. After a pleasantly short drive of 2 hours, I decided this would be the first album to listen to: Cream's Wheels on Fire. Appropriate title, not? Klipsch Heresy, Leben CS300 and Pro-Ject TT / Ortofon OM10 / iFi Zen Phono amp... Delicious combination. Missed it a lot.

My Marantz PM5005 shuts down when the speaker cables are touching. (!) Are you sure the problem is with the Marantz, and not somewhere else?

I've been wearing that straw hat when on holiday since 2015. So, if you should wonder, it is *not* a statement (Corona Extra is a beer...) about the current pandemic! I like the cooling airflow of a straw hat. That's not saying it makes me look cool, though. 😎😉 But that Fedora hat, I like it!

Our last day in Dinant, Adolphe Sax' birth town. Can't wait to be back home and listen to some nice records. In Dire Straits' live album Alchemy, there's a nice intro with a sax to the song 'Tunnel of Love' . Sincere greetings to the Klipsch Community, from Belgium!

Are you up to the Dinant Saxophone Challenge? You're welcome! Today, I visited the official Adolphe Sax museum, and there is a panel listing 5 pieces in which the sax is crucial. If you have one of these on a vinyl record, please post it here!

I guess Mr Sax is everywhere in his birth town, Dinant! Thank you for all your posts!

Currently in Dinant on the river Meuse, home of Adolphe Saxe !!!! Inventor of the saxophone! Please post your best sax vinyl album!

Going through tough times, personally because.... Being on holiday in the Ardennes, Belgium, and there is no vinyl record to be spun for another week. 😕 So keep your posts coming, please have mercy on me! Picture: me with my partner in a real cave (not my man cave...). We're here to support the economy after the recent dreadful floodings killed 40 people and washed whole towns away.

Is it still available? In Europe? Can't find it...

A look at some affordable recent turntables.

Bought this CD 30 years ago. Still remember the pleasently surprised reaction of the shop keeper. Trippy and already Indian influences.

Thank you for these excellent references. I've bookmarked your post and I'm planning on building a small collection of blu-rays. Great post!!!!

Listening in the background is really important to me and let me explain why. I too listen to FM radio in the car and while cooking. Over the years, there have been many occasions when I discovered new(to me) recordings, pieces, compositions like that. On the very moment, they triggered a wow-reaction and then I would wait until the presenter would give the details so I could buy the CD or listen to it again. If the details were not given, I have to look up the Playlist on the radio station's website. I still remember discovering Gorecky's 3rd Symphony, and many good jazz and blues recording like that. For me, fm/radio is like a gateway to new discoveries. It is a means to expose myself to artists, recordings, genres I don't know yet, and it makes my Melo-life a lot richer!

Below is my favorite album of him, Nightfall. Just two musicians, trumpet and bass. The compositions and virtuosity is amazing. Got to know it on Spotify when I had bought my first Klipsch speakers, and recently bought the CD. If I ever need to convince someone why tube amps and Klipsch are superior, I'd use this album!

Afterburner, I now remember... Their car had evolved in a kind of space shuttle! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afterburner_(ZZ_Top_album)

Bought this CD box a while ago after watching a recent docu on zz top. I got to know them only in the mid 80s with Terminator, in their MTV period, but instantly loved them. Remember fishing trips with my friends, and when zz top was on that little portable fm radio, the volume would go up to 10 and we'd all sing along with those guitar riffs! We were 16 and I think we all had fallen in love with the cute girls in their videos! And those fuzzy guitars and those cool sunglasses! Good memories!!!!

Sad day... RIP Dusty Hill.

More one dab+ (European HD radio) In Belgium, audio quality is limited to 96kbps, some stations only are allowed 80kbps. FM is scheduled to be shut down in 2022 but fm radios are still being sold... The analog TV signal was taken down in June 2021, so my guess is that they will carry out the shutdown of analog audio also. DAB is supposed to be be much more energy efficient and 'greener' , but where is the logic if you still allow to sell soon obsolete fm only radios? That's not 'green', is it? Welcome to 'hell hole' Belgium and its short sighted, incompetent politicians! https://www.test-aankoop.be/hightech/audio/dossier/dab

In Belgium, we have Klara, which is the classical music radio station (jazz and worldmusic included). They have presenters and news flashes every hour, and short commercials before the news. But then rhere's also 'Klara Continuo', which is 24/7 classical music. No news, no talking, no commercials. It is on dab+ and on the internet, but not on fm unfortunately. Most DAB channels on my receiver are aac 96k, only one was 108k. Nothing like 320k... ðŸ˜

Besides vinyl records, one of my other passions is Japanese anime. Recently, Netflix released an anime movie in which the quest for a lost vinyl album (a picture disc), plays an important role in the plot. It takes about 40 minutes before the plot line enters the movie. It's kind of fun to watch it evolve. The graphical art style of the animation is quite unique, and there's a much attention for smartphone use, but hey, if that triggers the young folk's interest for vinyl records, why not? Even face masks play a role in the story. It is a family friendly movie, suitable for all ages. In the trailer, there is nothing about the picture disc quest, but I added a screenshots without giving away any spoilers.

In Belgium, DAB+ is heavily promoted by the government. It is digital ether broadcast. Some stations are CD quality. Is it international, European or Belgian? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_audio_broadcasting It's European. In North America, they have HD Radio. Would you agree that digital radio is superior to FM?

In this particular case, a very big media company in Belgium, Studio 100, owning theme parks and TV channels, also wants their own country wide fm radio channel. As the fm band is very crowded in Belgium, they had the minister change the licence procedure, an excuse to get rid of smaller radio stations, and to take their place. https://www.tijd.be/ondernemen/media-marketing/studio-100-gaat-volop-voor-nieuw-radioavontuur/10310470.html The benefit, as mentioned in the article, is a very stable revenue through advertising... Two years ago, the idea was launched to completely stop fm broadcast of state radio stations in favor of dab, but recently that plan has been buried. There's simply too much money to be made in the fm band....
