Raw Birch..... What’s your finishing secret sauce?
Jive talkin replied to Don McPhee's topic in Technical/Restorations
Birch wood Casey tru oil it’s sold as a gun stock refinishing oil .look it up you can use as few or many Coates as you want to get your desired finish.I refinished my 1985 fortes last winter and they turned out beautiful. For further protection you can use renaissance wax look it up used in museums on many things for protection. -
Ann Wilson stairway to heaven. yup that’s it

Never heard the 3s but did the upgrades to the 1s and not disappointed at all.If you find 1s to upgrade reasonable and aren’t in love with them ( which you will be ) you will always get your money back out of them. Sometimes you got to go out on a Limb. That’s were the fruit is and also wait for it the nuts to. Just do it

Find some used forte 1 or 2s upgrade the xovers and tweeters to titanium and BINGO can be done for 1000.

Started the refinish today.30 year old fortes sanded down and first two Coates of tru oil sand down between first three coats starting with 500 grit .Probably put on another 8 Coates. The more Coates the shinnier it gets and the more protection.Easy finish to apply and can be reapplied to fresh in up at anytime.

So snowing out today and decided to clean up the fortes. Take off the grill and to my surprise I see a tear on my sub🤮. Four thoughts here 1 Get one or two new from bob (do these have the rubber surround?) 2 Buy original used on ebay. 3 Get out the old super glue and apply to the tear.4 get it rec coned and if I do this does it still have the rubber surround? Thank in advance for the help

Had bob upgrade my crossovers and got the aluminum tweeters with I believe DC10 upgrades from a member here both made great improvements. Going to lightly sand and re oil the cabinets as well.Going to use Tru oil it’s a gun stock oil that is very forgiving and gives tremendous results on old gun stocks. Thanks again will keep you updated on the results.
