  1. Do you guys use line conditioners? The guy at magnolia hifi suggested I get one. Adds another $469.77 to the price. ACK! ------------------ m00n ------------------------- System to come: RF-3II Floorstanding RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-10 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen
  2. Don't really know much about Denon. Someone told me though that dollar for dollar, Harmon Kardon was better. Is this a general concenses or just one persons opinion? ------------------ m00n ------------------------- System to come: RF-3II Floorstanding RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-10 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen
  3. Ok, so I went to listen everything. OH MY! I was very happy. However, the dealer (Magnolia Hi Fi) does not carry Harman Kardon receivers. So he wanted to sell me a yamaha. He said that in the last two years HK has declined in quality. What I mean by quality, lots of returns because of volume shooting real high for no reason. Things like that. Has any of you all heard anything negative about harman kardons quality? If you had to choose, what would you choose. Harman Kardon AVR520 OR Yamaha RX-V1200 Thanks all. ------------------ m00n ------------------------- System to come: RF-3II Floorstanding RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-10 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen This message has been edited by m00n on 04-13-2002 at 08:40 PM
  4. Hey great! I was just looking for this kind of info! One of the things I want to ask though is, looking at my proposed system listed in my sig, would I need a 12? Someone mentioned that one of the considerations is the other speakers. So, taking a look at what I want to get, again, what would someone suggest. Yes, I know there is no concrete answer. ------------------ m00n ------------------------- System to come: RF-3II Floorstanding RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-10 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen This message has been edited by m00n on 04-15-2002 at 11:52 PM

    Harshness?

boa12 Can you give me some help on this. I don't have it yet, but am going to listen to it. If I like what i hear, I will be buying it. Can you give me suggestions on this as far as what should be set to small or what should be set to large. I know really nothing about all this stuff other than what I have read in this forum over the last few days. Also, how do you turn speakers to small, is that in the receiver? Transducers

I want to start looking into transducers, can someone tell me what companies make them? I know that RBH does, but they don't have any prices listed on their web site. Thanks ------------------ m00n ------------------------- System to come: RF-3II Floorstanding RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-10 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen
  7. tblasing.... Thanks, I didn't realize the benifit of an authorized dealer. This company seems to operate very fair. I will have to ask them about this and see exactly how they operate. I would much prefer to buy from a dealer, but damn, the cost is so much less. ------------------ m00n ------------------------- System to come: RF-3II Floorstanding RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-10 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen
  8. Well, I am going to listen to this stuff tomorrow. With the exception of the DVD and TV, I am getting everything that's listed in my sig below. So the receiver is a Harman Kardon. ------------------ m00n ------------------------- System to come: RF-3II Floorstanding RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-10 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen
  9. Can you explain what small means? I don't know how I have accomplished it. I certianly didn't beg, but somehow I was able to get my wife to accept this $3000.00ish purchase. WHOOO HOOO! ------------------ m00n
  10. Ok so I have a question about horns. In particular the RS-3II's. I have not purchased my system yet, but one thing my wife is afraid of is that it will sound very tinny. She hates a lot of treble. Anyone give some insight? Thanks ------------------ m00n
  11. Ya, I knew the they were not an authorized dealer. But is that a bad thing? Honestly I don't know. I just called them and they said that, they themselves will honor the Klipsch warrenty. Here is what I am looking at, and what they sell it for and the shipping charge AVR520 Harman Kardon $625 RS-3II Black Klipsch $399 RF-3II Klipsch $575 RC-3II Klipsch $275 RSW-10 Klipsch $695 ------------------------------- Total: $2569.00 Then add shipping $165.00 With the $165.00 of shipping, it is still very well below what I have seen locally. ------------------ m00n
  12. Here is a place I found on the internet that seems to be straigt up. They have standard warrenty information and the products are supposed to be from the factory brand new. The Sound Professionals They have incredibly great prices. However, something tells me that shipping is where they may make up the cost of having lower prices. I am calling them today to find out out much it costs to ship the sytem I want. If you look at a thread I started in the Home Theater section called "Help a newbie", you will see that I looked for pricing at two places. First is good guys, but further down the thread you will see where I priced the same stuff at The Sound Professionals. Here is a blurb from their site on their company page. quote: ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS All of our merchandise is "BRAND NEW" USA product and comes factory sealed with all original manufacturers supplies and paperwork. We do not sell "B" good items on this site.Every shipment is packed with extreme care, always in brand new condition. We back everything we sell 100%!!! Most manufacturers do not want internet companies to sell their products via mail order. Some Manufacturers do not authorize us to sell on the internet. Therefore some manufacturers will tell you your warrantee will be void. However, Sound Professionals, Inc. will honor the full manufacturers warrantee through our store. ------------------ m00n This message has been edited by m00n on 04-12-2002 at 10:12 AM

Whats an IEEE card? Never heard of one. Ok I guess considering the system you got, the price was justified. I am running a P4 1.7 with 256 RDRAM. ------------------ m00n

  18. Sure, I know what a bits and bytes are, but, oversampling this, MASH filters that, digital to analog converters... ACK! I am a software guy not a hardware guy. And non of that bit twiddling assembly language either. I prefer my software languages much heigher level. ------------------ m00n This message has been edited by m00n on 04-12-2002 at 12:27 AM

10 years ago when I first started getting into computers, I thought that was hard figuring out what to buy. PFT, I look back and see that making your first PC purchase was cake compaired to this. ------------------ m00n

Ya, people keep saying go listen to them. I plan on it. However, I fear that I will listen to them and turn to mush, fall in love and buy them regardless becuase I really don't know what to listen for. I don't have anything to compair it to other than going to the local theatre that has a nice sytem in it. Will it sound that good? Or do I need to whip out about an extra $30000.00? To answer your question about a Klipsch dealer, well, I doubt it. But they seem very credible. They have 26 years in the business. Help a newbie

My emotional needs are to sit my bahaught down on my couch and watch a kicken movie with a kicken system. I really don't have any friends that come over that have anything that resemble a home theater. So, anyting I would get would blow them away. See, I am a computer geek, actually a software engineer. Most my friends are too. Thus we usually spend our money on PC's and what not. However, I must say, the PC habbit is much Much MUCH less expensive than this hobby. ------------------ m00n
  24. OMG! You guys know this stuff like I know PC's. Funny because a lot of times I start talking about all this PC stuff and people are like... HUH? That is exactly how I feel after reading this thread. ------------------ m00n

I just know that I want a nice well rounded system. More than just rediculously loud, I want a good quality sound. So, the speakers that I have chosen in an above post, will those give me that? I found what I think to be good prices at Sound Pros AVR520 Harman Kardon $625 RS-3II Black Klipsch $399 RF-3II (pair) Klipsch $575 RC-3II (pair) Klipsch $275 RSW-10 Klipsch $695 ------------------ m00n This message has been edited by m00n on 04-11-2002 at 11:16 PM
